Buxton back in the lineup today for the Twins against Zach Greinke.
Twins also released former high prospect Lewis Thorpe today after they finalized the PTBNL in the Taylor Rogers/Chris Paddack trade.
White Sox go full error machine in the 8th to allow the Twins to take the lead.

And a W!
Not a pretty top 9th but somehow the Twins escaped.
Catcher was fantastic.

Duffey didn't give up a run? AND got a win? WTF?

Jeffers should get a save as well for all those stops on sliders three feet in front of the plate.

I coached some in-house baseball when my kids were young. I referred to plays like that as being on the merry-go-‘round.
Twins on FS1 today? Maybe not blacked out? Fingers crossed. And they’ll def play cause it’s so nice out right?

More like Ted Bundy so far, he is killing it
I thought the White Sox were good?
Buxton only needs a triple to hit for the cycle thru the 4th inning
lol @ Sano there.
Hendriks clearly missed his spot there! Buxton with a walk-off three run smash!

The NWS just issued a falling ball warning.
In Duluth.
That was CRUSHED!

Buxton with a 2 run homer in the bottom of the 7th to tie it and a 3 run home in the bottom of the 9th to win it.
Buxton has 6 home runs (in 37 at bats) and is tied for the Major League lead.
The other two guys have done it in 62 and 56 at bats respectively.
He squared it up....

The Twins the White Sux. Welcome to your first place Twins.
I'm still shocked they threw that pitch to him at all. I get throwing a few after the wild pitch to see if he'll chase, but when it goes to 3-1 and you have first open, what the hell are you thinking?
Was at Mainstreet Bar in Hopkins for the end of the game. The place went NUTS. That was a beauty of a finish.
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
We were at the game today. When he came up for the fourth time after three strikeouts, I commented how a player could have three bad at-bats and then become the hero. I was just thinking of getting the tying HR. The winner was the most obvious HR right off the bat I’ve seen. I just yelled, “WOW!”
From Sunday’s game, the junior PA was the best I’ve seen (he did an Adam Abrams type announcement) After he got a good reaction, he hammed it up a little more. The crowd was really into it, and we could see the players getting a real kick out if it. Then, after the half inning was done, Abrams introduced the new Twins pitcher using the same style the kid was using. It was epic. They gotta bring that kid back for game 7 of the World Series.
The Twins put this out today.

Thank you Detroit. Thank you very much!

Sano completely blows it with an AWFUL base running gaffe, but Detroit says "hold my beer" and it doesn't matter.

Sano: Here, Detroit, you can win the game.
Detroit: No thanks, you take it
Sano: Oh, all right.
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
Sano had the special scouting report that said Tigers catcher struggles making throws with the game on the line. Everybody else is playing checkers Sano is playing chess.
Sano messed up twice there although the 2nd running gaff didn't matter since the winning run crossed the plate already.

Neither one of those was really an "awful" baserunning gaffe as much as a miscommunication. When he was rounding 1B he read the relay throw to the plate and went to 2B. That's what runners are supposed to do. He wasn't aware that Watkins put up the stop sign on Larnach (and considering Watkins has waved everyone home all season so far, it's kinda shocking even if it was a late stop sign as it sounded like on the radio broadcast). As a baserunner you're generally not picking up the 3B coach until you're preparing to round 2B (roughly half way to 2B). It's the first base coach's job to communicate with the batter-runner (Sano, in this case) what the guys ahead of him are doing and my guess is the 1B coach said "Read the throw" thinking Larnach was given the green light, and when Sano saw the throw he took off to 2B which is what he's supposed to do. It's hard to tell from the camera angles when Watkins gave Larnach the stop sign, but based on the way Larnach was running and rounding the base, it seemed to be relatively late. Urshela obviously saw the stop sign and retreated to 2B
Once the catcher's throw went into the outfield and it was clear Urshela was going to try to score, Sano's job is 100% to get to third base. He knows Urshela is the game-winning run. So if the Tigers throw to 3B to get Sano then Urshela obviously scores and the game is over. If they throw to the plate, Sano needs to be on 3B in case Urshela is out at home.
IDK what Larnach was doing that he wasn't able to score easily on that ball. Even if you're tagging on the potential catch, the ball was clearly not caught at the 4ish second mark (on the replay I was watching) and Grossman doesn't pick it up and turn to throw it in until roughly 8 seconds. That should be more than enough time for any MLB player to already have rounded 3B and be on his way to score.

I disagree with your take that it was a miscommunication. When rounding first base, the entire play was in front of Sano. He needed to read both the throw and what the runners ahead of him were doing. Now rounding 2nd or 3rd is a different story when the runner can't see what's happening behind him. Sano made a bonehead decision and got away with it.

Sure. But when you're running the bases you have a clock in the back of your head. Sano knows Larnach was probably tagging on the play, and there were almost 5 seconds between when the ball went over Grossman's head and when he threw the ball back in. So in Sano's mind, Larnach is an automatic send (any baseball player in the big leagues should be a send from 2nd base when they have even average foot speed - the avg foot speed is 27ft/s which equates to roughly 6.7 seconds from 2B to home plate). And when he sees the throw from the cutoff man to the plate, he knows Urshela should be going from 2B to 3B. It's a safe bet he had no idea Larnach wasn't trying to score. Especially when the relay throw went straight to the plate. He's looking at the ball and the relay throw as he rounds 1B.
If he sees the ball go by him and then stops to check if Urshela is running too then there's no point in moving to 2B because he'd be thrown out (on a good relay throw at least).
This is why teams have base coaches. To be the eyes for base runners and inform them of what is happening ahead of them.
I'm liking this Joe Ryan kid.

0.74.......
IIRC, 1.20 is kind of the borderline between good and great. 1.10-1.15....that's a God DAMN!. Just my 2 cents.

The 2nd best result in 120 years is pretty freaking historic.
And by a Twin not against one.
Mind blown.

Considering they gave up a 40 year old DH, it is turning out to be one hell of a trade.

It's nice to see that prospect Royce Lewis has gotten off to a nice start with the Saints after not playing for two years in a row.

I split this off from the old thread. Like many others, I prefer that we have just one season in a thread now.

Most of the league hasn't seen him yet so there isn't a lot of film for hitters to watch. Hopefully his stuff is good enough that hitters won't figure him out after facing him multiple times.
Him getting through the 3-4-5 hitters for Detroit three times is a good sign. Then again, it's Detroit.

I get your point but I was speaking more along the lines of hitters seeing him again in June, August, and late September.
538 Article about Buxton
Unsurprisingly for Twins fans, it comes down to "If Buxton could play most of the season, instead of less than half on average, he'd be the front-runner for MVP"

Oh I know and agree. We'll see what happens. I highly doubt the 0.74 remains.
Twins win again today 7-1. Bit of a damper to the celebration in that Bailey Ober left the game with an injury. There was a run down that he was involved in and after the next pitch he grabbed his groin/upper quad area and then left the game. Hopefully nothing serious. He's been very good this season.
