That's gotta make for some interesting scheduling with all that travel time just for practice.Rochester, Duluth and Minneapolis combine their players into a single youth program. Are there any youth association that DONT follow school district boundaries? As far as I know everyone does but some may combine school districts
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?

Particularly in Duluth when it's 20+ miles from the Gary/New Duluth/Morgan Park areas on the west end to Lester River/Woodland 'hoods on the east side with every stop light in the world between the two ends.

Obviously I missed something.

I was taking slightly poor wording and quite intentionally taking it wrong 😉
Doh! I didn't think of it that literally!

Another parent on my younger kid’s team would yell instructions to his kid from the stands nearly constantly so I started teasing him that he needed a remote control. I told him I would cut the cord off an old Atari controller and give it to him during the games so he could feel better.
I’ve joked with other parents that he would some day and a radio to his kids helmet so the kids wouldn’t have to think or react ever again.

I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.
Randolph will coach next year “somewhere” and get the record.

I can see St. Thomas’ perspective here in looking for a new direction but I have to also agree with Randolph that those reasons seem flippant. It doesn’t, in my opinion, paint the school in the best light.
I can’t imagine not renewing someone’s contract and giving an answer of just some little reasons…

I doubt he will coach next season. But probably somewhere eventually…plus he already shares the record.Randolph will coach next year “somewhere” and get the record.
72 you would think he would call it quits
Strobel named STA coach, there was definitely something in the works for a while.

He still lives in Duluth. And at 72 I can see him staying in Duluth and coaching at Cloquet or ever Proctor. Doesn't need to commute or temporary live in the Cities with a city school. The parent drama is probably low at Cloquet and Proctor.

It sounds like head coaching changes were made at the following schools:
St. Thomas Academy
Orono
STMA
Alexandria
Any other notable changes?
Holy Family
Farmington
Hibbing
I'd consider these notable to a degree. A handful of others not so notable
@betterdeadthenred The Alexandria coach stepped down voluntary to spend more time with his family.

Just heard Mike Randolph to Northern Lakes. That will have Alexandria thinking hard.

For those that didn’t know (like me), Northern Lakes is made up of Pequot Lakes High School, Crosby-Ironton High School, Pine River-Backus High School, Walker-Hackensack-Akeley High School and Aitkin High School.
Same. I think it was last year during sections that I looked it up. Randolph might be a good fit there. By looking at their past records they seem to be somewhat competitive for their conference and section. Someone like Randolph can make a difference with his non traditional coaching style. And I’m pretty sure he’s not going somewhere just to coach. He’s going somewhere to win.

I always get Northern Lakes and River Lakes mixed up. River Lakes is Cold Spring-ROCORI, New London-Spicer, Paynesville, Albany, Eden Valley-Watkins, St. Johns Prep and Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa.
Surprised Willmar doesn’t swallow up some of those schools. Unless it’s a school district issue.

Bet my paycheck that if Randolph went to Hermantown his first request would be for them to up to AA.

Neck guards will now be required youth (USA Hockey) thru High School (NFHS)
I don't think NFHS has any say over MNHSL rules since h.s. hockey players in MN don't register with US hockey or something like that.
If so that's not to say the MNHSL won't do it on their own...

That's not accurate. The MSHSL follows NFHS rules with a few exceptions that have been passed by the MSHSL board. If the NFHS changes a rule (which it has over time with regard to certified equipment and checking from behind, for example), then the MSHSL will follow it. MSHSL Hockey Rules
The NFHS is generally aligned with USA Hockey but there are a number of differences too. But the NFHS ruling means MSHSL schools must comply (honestly, we knew this was coming and the only reason it didn't last year already was the lack of availability of supply of the equipment).
It’s a youth tournament (both boys and girls) that took place this past weekend in several Duluth area rinks.
MSHSL will rank all 8 teams for the state tournament.

Was just coming to post the same thing. I’m surprised from previous conversations in this thread. I was one to always say MSHSL was going to keep it at 1-5 through my sources. I guess things changed.

Per their Twitter/X account, Bloomington Kennedy is ending their boys hockey program after this upcoming season.

Hey Siri, show me 1980s hockey in one picture.
Sure, here's a random old fart sporting Cooperalls, the Pro-Tec blue zit helmet with the classic cat-eye mask that pucks and sticks could easily slip through, Bauer 100s, & a wicked awesome Mike Bossy pattern Titan 2020PMP.
Probably my last HS game in Feb/Mar 1985.

I loved my Stan Mikita 🤣
Wow I have many hs hockey memories (fan only) with Tonka playing Kennedy and of course section double-header Saturdays at Met Center that often included the Eagles. A sad ending.
Looks like Maple Grove is moving to the Lake Conference.
Aug 30 2024
Many of the 100+ athletic/activity programs our school offers are part of the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL). Currently, Maple Grove Senior High School (MGSH) is a member of the Northwest Suburban Conference (NWSC), but starting fall 2025, our school will join the Lake Conference (LC).
This change will provide our Crimson students with new, exciting experiences in activities. Currently, growing student enrollment has expanded our athletic/activity program so much that teams are traveling more often and further away to meet competition needs. Transportation costs are also quickly rising making it more challenging to maintain such a varied schedule.
Every effort will be made to ensure that our athletic/activity opportunities do not change with this move, including continuing competitions with many NWSC and non-NWSC schools. Schedules with these schools could look different than they do today though; however, please know that our school is committed to collaborating with long-standing partners – most especially with our own district schools, Osseo Senior High School and Park Center Senior High School. Also, intra-district activities such as Adapted Sports, Synchro Swimming and Grove Area Percussion partnerships will continue; these activities include student participants from all of our district high schools.
The MSHSL sent out invoices today for the Tourney.
