Interesting to see that the rumors were true and AK headed to Rutgers to pair up with his former OC

surprised it took this long and crazy that he has been with Fleck his tenure at MN
any word on the DC?

Good for him but I believe he will be a backup...so not sure why.
Good luck to Rob. I appreciate his commitment to Fleck and MN, but we needed a change of some sort.
I’m confused. The portal is closed. There needs to be rigor around transfer commitments. This is all so dumb. How can a team be expected to prepare for this?

Its closed for people entering it (unless they are still playing) but not for people already in it. He may have committed here but since he is a transfer he is still technically in the portal until the next semester starts I believe.
And the rumor is it wasn't really his decision...
How does a player get forced to pick a school for transfer? But with that than I assume that puts the odds that he arrives at very low.

I believe Handy's post meant it may not have been his decision to re-open his recruiting. Whether it be academically or playing-time, idk.

He was forced to re-open his recruitment because of academics if the rumor is true. They gave him the opportunity to go somewhere else instead of dealing with him not being admitted and the embarrassment that comes with it.
Also sounds like they have a replacement in mind.
What does NSD stand for at the end of their little video game graphic?

4 star kid out of high school. Should have 3 seasons of eligibility if my math is correct.
Donald seemed excited when he got the offer...lets hope his grades are good. 😉
Was he not getting playing time at PSU?
How does Gopherhole expect people to take them seriously. Driver has 1 total catch for 8 yards in a rout of the Delaware Fighting Blue Hens (that’s a real college, I looked it up).

I believe he was recruited as a DB that is why his stats are low and one of the reasons he is leaving. He wants to be a WR.

The Athletic did their final NCAAF full 133 team ranking following bowl season.
Gophers came in at 73 (10th of the old B1G 14th of the new B1G, no new B1G were ranked lower).
- 73 - Minnesota
- 78 - Nebraska
- 86 - MSU
- 94 - Purdue
- 97 - Indiana
Obviously means Rutgers, Maryland, Illinois, Northwestern, Iowa, and Wisconsin were all above us - teams you'd hope we could compete with.
MN vs. their schedule:
- Nebraska (78) - W
- Eastern Michigan (106) - W
- UNC (37) - L
- Northwestern (31) - L
- Louisiana (99) - W
- Michigan (1) - L
- Iowa (28) - W
- MSU (86) - W
- Illinois (72) - L
- Purdue (94) - L
- OSU (10) - L
- Wisconsin (65) - L
- Bowling Green (83) - W
2-1 against those below us and 4-6 against those above us. Looking back those disappointing losses are Illinois, Purdue, and Wisconsin. NU for the way we lost, but not looking at how their season unfolded.
Yes, this means nothing, but it's the off season.
Pretty cool Gopher Football print by Adam Turman. My wife and I have 5 of Turman's prints and there's a couple more I would like. Though he's always coming with new stuff, especially every year at the State Fair.

Apparently Fleck is going to be a candidate for UCLA

I don't want Fleck to leave but if he wants that job...well good luck. Will make the fans next year fun to be at though!
(They aren't hiring him)
With all the recent rain in Los Angeles Fleck seems like the perfect candidate.
I am the official Iowa Hawkeye football fan of GPL!
UCLA fan base will love if they hire a 6-7 coach who hasn’t won a division title much less the conference title in his 7 years.
Coyle was just extended, that helps us too. PJ is a big fan. And, one thing I trust about Coyle is he’s always ready for coaching vacancies.
Gopher Football is @ 4.5 for the 2024 season. I like the over…
vs. UNC (?)
vs. Rhode Island (W)

Did they lose a lot to graduation? Their recruiting classes are never highly rated so I don't put as much stock into that as I do to what they return/add from the portal.
I mean that is a brutal schedule but I have a hard to believing they can't get to 5 wins. 4 would be their lowest non-covid win total since Fleck arrived.

If I recall I think they are returning a lot of their offensive line outside of TE Spann-Ford. If their transfer QB comes in and is decent to good, and can take some pressure off the run game assuming Darius Taylor stays healthy they should be able to move the ball fairly well.
Their defense should be decent if they stay healthy, I think for this team they have talent but are thin behind the starters which is why they lost most of their games from mid October outside of their MAC opponent bowl game.
We know Fleck's formula, and if they can run the ball effectively, avoid turnovers, and sustain minute munching drives and play decent to above average defense they should be in most games outside of the likes of Ohio St, Michigan etc.
I would think 4 wins more than achievable, but if they get a number of injuries and end up using running back 5 (like last year) in their depth chart it could be a long year.

Of course PJ leveraged "interest" to get more cash.

The U has been nothing but generous to him. Numerous reworking if contracts. At some point, you would think he would say "I'm good". It just irks me. But, I'm old school.

The old school part of me does agree with you, but at the same point, you've got to make hay while the sun is shining, or something like that.
He is right in the middle of salaries for B1G football coaches. Above the guys he should beat, and below the guys he can't seem to beat.
If I never negotiated raises/promotions at my work, I'd probably get stuck with 2% or less every year. I have co-workers who complain about not getting a bigger raise... "Did you ask?" -- "no.. I shouldn't have to" -- Well, try asking next time. I don't argue every year, but I pick my spots.
Fleck ranks around 12th in compensation in the B1G (of 18). You want a top 5 team? You have to pay for that. And this also brings money for assistants who are really underpaid. It was assumed Rossi got a $250k raise to go to MSU.
Keeping up with the Jones’s is hard.
Like UCLA would hire PJ Fleck. Coyle is so gullible.

Wouldn't UCLA have to contact the U first before there could be any movement? You really think Fleck's agent just said, "Hey UCLA is interested" and that was it Coyle was convinced?

They hired DeShaun Foster... Fleck is hands over fist a better candidate and coach for UCLA. UCLA is going to be the doormat of the PAC12 teams coming to the BIG.

Maybe they couldn't match what the U was offering and/or he preferred staying in Minnesota? They can't force him to accept
IMO... Besides the weather, UCLA is a step down from the Gophers. UCLA will always play 2nd fiddle to USC. They play in a way to big of a stadium and I hear that the NIL money and alumni support isnt the best.
Keep your stick on the ice...
I looked at the previous 10 years or so and UCLA and UM were very close when it came to total W-L, conference wins and bowl appearances with UM having a slight edge there. Not sure about draft picks. It's not as though UCLA isn't a destination school but not for everyone obviously.

Always nice taking commits from Wisconsin

Kollock, former Washington commit, decommitted when their coach left for Alabama. Sure would be a nice player to get on campus.
Fleck is hands over fist a better candidate and coach for UCLA.Then they should have hired him.
I know this is almost a month late...but UCLA could not afford what it would have cost to get Fleck. Their Athletic Department is in shambles and fundraising is a joke. That (and familiarity) are why they hired Foster. They are hoping a former Bruin can make them relevant again (they aren't even close except when they play the big dogs) and stick around on the rather cheap end.
And Coyle is not gullible, he played the game and he knew what Fleck was doing. Minnesota fans get so bent out of shape over this crap (mainly cause our media is a joke) but it happens all over the place and means almost nothing. When Hoiberg was at Iowa State he did it almost every year...usually using the U of M or the NBA to do it. Most of the coaches we pine after every time one of our guys gets fired does it with us. It is just part of the back and forth. For some reason though Minnesota Fans just cant handle it, like it is an affront to our sensibilities or it means they don't like us. Its sad and honestly rather bush league.
