@collegehockeyaddict Yeah, hope was his return soon unless I missed a setback update but it doesn’t matter now anyway. I wasn’t really expecting to call the season a flop just yet but it pretty much hit home now so it’s just get over it time for me.
Due to their limited payroll the Twins have little chance to sign free agent pitching that is going to be high level. This is why they have to continue to try to develop pitching or trade for pitching that is affordable. The two best starters we have Pablo Lopez and Joe Ryan were both acquired via trades so the Twins do make some good trades.
The Joe Ryan trade was one the best trades the Twins have ever made. Nelson Cruz was awful for the Rays.
When the trade was made Twins fans didn't like trade.
@camo-coat-guy Pablo Lopez was put on the 60 day IL in early June so he is eligible to be reactivated in a few days but I don't think he is that close. I've heard a couple of reports that he is throwing again (long tossing) but haven't heard a time frame on when he might be back. If say he is healthy enough to pitch by September 1st (basically a month from now) at that point will there be much of a point in having him pitch? I guess we will find out whenever he is healthy.
If he was ready to pitch in early August made that would have affected decisions being made this week.
BTW the frustration you are going through right now is frustration I have gone through in previous seasons but a few years ago I decided I'm going to really try not to let this bother me that much any more.
@collegehockeyaddict My thought is he gets shut down since they can plug guys in they want to see development the rest of the way. I could see buxton staying out more long term too just because of his history and for nothing to gain anyway.
@camo-coat-guy Since you mentioned that the Twins had a previous great come back to the win the division I figured I would share my story about it.
I was fortunate enough to be at the game 163 where we beat the Tigers to win the division in 2009. Going to the game cost me a pretty penny since I was working in St. Louis at the time and had to pay to change my flight along with the ticket prices. I flew from St. Louis to the Twins Cities that weekend to go to one last Twins game at the Metrodome (last Twins season at the Metrodome) and go to the Vikings game Monday night. At that time I was a Vikings season ticket holder and flew from St. Louis to Minneapolis for every Vikings home game during the 2009 season. As a result of the Vikings game at the Metrodome being Monday night game 163 wasn't played until Tuesday. I was scheduled to fly back to St. Louis Tuesday morning for work but when the Twins tied/caught the Tigers for the division on Sunday to force game 163 I notified my work that I was going to stay in the Twin Cities an extra day so I could go to game 163 and paid to change my flight. I didn't really care what they thought of this change since I didn't have anything important I need to do for work on Tuesday and was the one person in the Twin Cities work office that was willing to travel for work so I figured the company owned me this change.
Paddock, meh. Once they traded Duran...there was the true-tale sign. Re-build/fire sale. F the owners overall. We all figured that this season, the owners didn't care, really. Just sell the team and be done with it was their attitude.
Crazy to be in a "rebuild" after this. Its more mismanagement and ineptitude to build anything that will last.
The Pohlad's are truly a disgrace. They will run this organization into the ground as much as they possibly can and rack up as much debt as possible before selling.

I get it what the Twins are doing. Sad to see Duran go, but he had value. If they can get the Astros to take most of Correa's salary, that is a win. Most of the other guys they traded would have walked at season's end anyway. If the guy they got for Brock Stewart somehow finds his game again, that is a good deal as well. Waiting for a couple of other moves, including Castro.
I was recently informed by a GPLer that I'm related to Airey
why does it look like Calvin Griffith still owns this team, they trade away some top players and receive some young inexperienced players I read they received a 16 year old pitcher?
I understand what you are saying I am just saying Paddock was only signed for two more months. Could he have helped the team for the next two months yes but the Twins season dramatically changed when Pablo Lopez got hurt on June 3rd. When he got hurt the Twins were 33-27 which was tied for the 3rd best record in the AL behind the Yankees and the Tigers. The Twins are 18-30 since then.
What the hell? Did he pitch every day? Quite a turnaround to attribute to a SP who pitches every 5th game.
The curious part to me is they seem to have put themselves in a net negative pitcher situation. And we all know how they spend money on FA pitchers. Next season should be interesting.

This looks like the early 1980s again.

Bailey Ober and Chris Paddack were also big factors
Ober
April, 2.10 ERA, 30 innings
May, 2.76 ERA, 29 1/3 innings
June, 9.00 ERA, 30 innings (while trying to pitch through an injury)

So the Twins have 54 games left. What's the over/under on wins?
11?
9?

Although there is still a chance some of these people get traded.
I’m gonna need a runner.

Buxton has a no trade clause and at the All Star Break he was adamant he didn't want to be traded but with what is happening if I was him I would have done what Correa did and said "Get me the HELL out of here."
If there are more than 8 season ticket holders next year I will be baffled.
I get selling off players who are scheduled to become free agents or who could pull in intriguing value. But this is just blowing up the team and leaving the injured behind.

I'm willing to bet if Buxton changed his mind this week after seeing what was happening he could have gotten himself traded similar to how Correa did by waving his no trade clause. Clearly the Twins were willing to trade anybody and everybody.
