Hard to believe you'd give up a goal after (what seemed like) a five minute shift.

Hughes is a hell of a talent but he is kind of a brick at times. The more his team gets into crunch time and needs a goal the more he seems to forget he has teammates. if memory serves his brothers played a similar game.
He will probably score a couple now that I've ragged him.....or do that.

I said it earlier in the tournament, for what Hughes has in offensive talent, he lacks in defense.
He did the same thing in August during the makeup tournament. When the US got behind, he tried to make end to end rushes constantly. Wanted to do it all himself.
If you're entire dcore is going to be small offensive defenseman, then you need to get some offense out of them to make it worthwhile. Doesn't help that Canada gets to play by the NHL rulebook when they can't skate with the other team.
I hate the Canadian fans as much as the Whioux fans
Canada Hockey fans took their db fan levels to record heights after the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. All the BS of the only gold medal that matter was the Men’s Hockey gold. I compare them more to UMD and UMD fans like DHG. Win a Nat’l Championship and start really pumping your chest out while being loud and obnoxious.
US starting to pressure again, so of course they completely botch a breakout and Canada leads 5-2.
Story of the game. US not responsible in their own end all night. It felt like US had a little more talent up front but Canada cashed in on their chances and we didn't.
Oh, and Hughs. Oof. Trying to do way too much instead of playing the team game.
It pains me to say it, but Canada deserved the win tonight.

Reffing easily favored Canada. Sticks all over the US players and only a couple calls.
Our power and cable service went out pretty much for the game. Guess it was a good one to miss. :/

Looking ahead to next year, we should send Snuggerud, Chesley, Moore and Rinzel to the WJC. Cooley too if he comes back for his sophomore season. Nice contingency of Gopher guys?
I had tickets for the 1982 tournament that was held mostly at the old Met Center. They farmed a few games out to a few other places. Pretty sure I remember the German team playing a game in New Ulm, I think there was a game either on the Range or Duluth and I believe the Canadians had a game in Winnipeg (or possibly Thunder Bay). Great Hockey.
Doing a little more digging, there were more games elsewhere in ‘82 than I recalled or maybe even realized. My ticket package was only for the Met Center games. Hell, I didn’t even get to see the last game. It was in Rochester.
Just saw this on Twitter a few minutes ago.....would be cool if it were here.
MSP ----> Detroilet

I think Minneapolis and Detroit are two separate groups and wanting the full tourney.
This was my interpretation as well.

Buffalo had it with a secondary arena that only holds 1800. So, drop the Target Center. Mariucci works. My personal choice would be the Coliseum. Imagine watching a game like Sweden-Finland in that barn. I’d pay an amount of money that’d likely get me a divorce to see that. ?

I'm pretty positive they took the refrigeration out of the Coliseum a couple years ago.

If Mpls. does get the bid, why not have it all on campus. Both Mariucci and Ridder. Even if they are in separate groups, the US and Canada can play their games along with other matchups at Mariucci. And the other matchups at Ridder. Ridder is around 3,500 for attendance.

Liked a thousand times by me. Coliseum was my favorite rink in the state of Minnesota by a long shot. Too bad they took out the refrigeration.

Apparently Moncton and Halifax are a 3 hour drive apart so we can’t rule out Amsoil being the second site lol

Is there a specific rink size required for the tournament? I know Mariucci won’t be exactly NHL size but would that matter?
IIHF allows for different sizes, unlike the NHL. The range is basically NHL - Olympic. So obviously Mariucci will end up right in the middle instead of one extreme. The bigger factor is probably rounding out the corners to a 24’ radius, which is in IIHF’s guidelines of 23-28.
