U.S. down 3-2 heading into the third period. Ava Lindsay with a nice play on the goal that narrows the deficit to one.

With Covid-19 delaying the Women’s u18 Worlds which were concluded last week, it seems a little strange that we are quite a ways into the process of choosing next year’s team. About three weeks ago I posted the local girls invited to the National Select 18 camp to be held July 15-21 in St. Cloud. Here is the CURRENT LIST of invitees. Still waiting on Minnesota to release names from their recently concluded 15s camp (2007 birth years). A few 2005 and 2006 birth years will be picked from the national 16 & 17 camp that starts later this week.

Looking over the 2007s on that list I found THIS on one of the girls. Sounds like quite the all around athlete.

Just realized that I probably saw Ms. Finale play last summer. THIS TEAM was in last summer at a tournament at the Super Rink and won their division. ASU men’s coach Greg Powers was coaching the team (his daughter was playing). They had three of the five 2007 birth year players who have been invited to the Select 18 camp (probably expect Minnesota to get one or two more when announced). I believe I only saw them play about a half a period during Zamboni time of another game I was watching. Sage Smith and Megan Healy are the other two from that team who will be at the U.S. camp. The Smith girl plays at Shattuck, so I’ve seen her a few times. Very impressive player. From the hockey hotbed of Lafayette, Louisiana.

Carly Humphrey: I’m extremely honored and excited to announce my commitment to play Division 1 hockey at the University of Minnesota. I couldn’t choose a better environment to further my education and continue my hockey career. I’ve been blessed with some of the best coaches from youth to high school, whether it was winter season or summer season, and I will never be able to thank them enough. I’d also like to thank Elk River Hockey, my parents, sisters, family, teammates, and friends for supporting me through everything and more. I’ve always dreamt of becoming a Gopher, and still can’t believe I’ve gotten the opportunity to! Can’t wait to get started! Go Gophs!

This is impressive. I am a bit worried that they are getting into a trap Lucia fell into with so many Edina players on the roster.

The Women have received a commitment for 2024 from Swiss goaltender Margaux Favre. She played last year for Rink Academy in Kelowna, British Columbia.

An article on Ms. Favre posted during the recent World Women’s U18 Championships.

I realize you've been in the PI for quite a while, but I'm pretty sure Rochester hasn't up and moved to Iowa (or worse, Wisconsin).

There are two Fleming sisters at the camp. The older one, Delaney, is a ‘23 grad year. They both played at Rochester Lourdes before moving to Shattuck. They are the younger sisters of Maddox Fleming, who, I believe, will be a freshman at Notre Dame this season.

As far as the Louisiana girl goes, she is a player. Big, strong girl.

Not sure if I heard it on a YHH podcast or read it on the Minnesota Girls high school hockey forum but the speculation was that Lindzi Avar would likely commit to Ohio State.

Canada is holding their camp to choose their National U18 team (CAMP ROSTER). A few players from this group that may be getting attention from the Gopher staff are forward Alexia Aubin (Stanstead College) and defenders Emma Venusio (Etobicoke Jr. Dolphins) and Gracie Graham (Rink Academy-Kelowna)

The recent St. Cloud camp narrowed the U.S. candidates down to 32, and the National Festival, which starts on Monday (in Buffalo, New York) will chose the team that will play Canada in a three game series in Calgary. Game dates are August 17, 18 & 20.

So they took this professional photo and posted it online because they're going to be captains?

U.S. roster for the U18 three game series with Canada in Calgary is up. Ava Lindsay and Ellie Klepinger are the only current Gopher recruits. Hopefully a couple more are in the near future. Games are this coming Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. All games are at 4:30 p.m. and will be streamed (for free) on the Hockey Canada web site

Canada’s roster for the upcoming U18 series with the U.S.

https://www.hockeycanada.ca/en-ca/team-canada/women/under-18/2022-23/series-vs-usa/stats/team-rosters?teamid=565

I believe there might be a commitment or possibly two from this group. Of course I am notoriously wrong around this time of year.

Canada completes the sweep over the U.S. with a 7-2 victory in the third game of the U18 series. It will be interesting to see what changes might be coming before the World Championships.

The World Championships will be held January 8-15, 2023 in Ostersund, Sweden.

The one bit of good news was Ava Lindsay returning to play today.

Gopher commits by team:

Empowers Performance: Josie Hemp, Isa Goettl

The youngest player in the league is someone that Gopher fans have been waiting for since her parents got married. Emily Pohl is on the Pellici Ace Hardware team.

Labor Day weekend is traditionally the start of the fall girl’s hockey showcase season with the long running NAHA tournament and the more recent showcase in Pittsburgh. Minnesota will have a presence at both with most Gopher commits taking part.

Josie Hemp will be in Pittsburgh with the Junior Whitecaps Black team in the 19U division. At NAHA will be Elly Klepinger, Lauren O’Hara and Ava Lindsay on the Junior Whitecaps Black 19U team and Carly Humphrey and Kendra Distad on the Junior Whitecaps White 19U team. Stanstead College will also be at NAHA in the 19U division, but Gopher commit Emma Kreisz will not be as she is still in Denmark with the Hungarian team at the Women’s World Championships. They have a quarterfinal game against the U.S. this morning so their run likely comes to a screeching halt.

EDIT: Emma Kreisz is not listed as being in the lineup for Hungary today

The youngest player at the Women’s World Championships in Denmark is Czech 16 year old forward Adela Sapovalivova. She been getting a lot of praise for her speed and skill. She was the second leading scorer at this summer’s 18U World Championships in Madison and was one of the three forwards on the all-tournament team. She still has two more years of eligibility for that event. If she decides to come over and play college hockey the competition for her services will probably be pretty intense. With the Gophers current trend of interest in Europeans it might be a name to remember.
