I don't know if there is a clean answer to that when it is an ongoing evaluation process.
You never really stop learning about a player. Heck, they continue to evaluate them even after committing so...
According to wheeler article In Athletic Moldenhauer plans to play USHL next year. Spicer likely to UMD. Top uncommitted player after them?
Basically nobody that can have any kind of impact.

Happy Gilmore?
Feels more and more likely Walker will need to be asked for another year.
Did Alex Bump sign his NLI with VT? Other MN HS seniors that could be looked at in desperation: Adam Marshall (BSM), Drew Fisher (CDH)
I think Bump signed.
I don’t think Nick Pierre, Maddox Fleming have…

Fleming did, I believe, right before he left the NTDP.
A couple of interesting picks in todays USHL phase II draft. Cole Spicer went in the 8th Rd to Sioux City. Tomek Haula, Erik's 17 year old brother also went to SC in the 13th round.

Not sure where to put this, but a new coach has been named at the NTDP. They promoted the associate coach.

Does anyone know if Nick Erickson is still available. He would have a lot of potential as a backup goalie and starter eventually. UMD has had a lot of success with MN goalies.
WHL U.S. Prospects Draft results
Eight Minnesotans taken. No idea if anyone here is someone to follow. Fun name at #30. Don’t know if #34 is related to former Gopher baseball player Michael Kvasnicka. And #18, I’d like to know the story of why a White Bear kid is playing at the famous Rhode Island high school.
Spehar will be fun to watch because aside from the name I believe he’s actually a pretty good player with a decent shot at the U offering if he develops. Same with Vanek except someone came on here and basically said he wasn’t good enough. He’s in bantams so we should probably relax on that.
Whoever gets the first Sawchyn will obviously have the in on the next one.
Is this an actual draft of youth player by the WHL?
These kids are only 1 year older than my son, which is very weird to think about.

These kids can play in the WHL this upcoming season.
What? That's crazy. At 14 they could leave home and play against Chaz Lucius and other semi pro players?
They can't drive. They need a ride to the rink. WTF!
"They got a lot of promise!"
"They brought their F'ing toys with them!"
. At 14 they could leave home and play against Chaz Lucius and other semi pro players? They can’t drive. They n
Yes.
2007s can play 5 games this season, and then rejoin the teams when their midget seasons end. A 14 year old could play 20 year olds.

A 14 year old could play 20 year olds.
That should help them prepare to play Mankato when they get to college.

“Youth Hockey Hub” summary piece on the WHL U.S. Priority Draft from the other day. A little more information on the players mentioned, but not much.
With Finn Brink out of the way I think it goes
1. Danny Nelson (Maple Grove)
2. Teddy Townsend (Eden Prairie)
3. Beckett Hendrickson (USNTDP)
honorable mention Gracyn Shawcyn (USNTDP) but I heard rumors of maybe major junior so idk

This is a good twitter thread on the recruits about to start finding places to verbal. I don't know if I've ever seen the Gophers commit list so small. They have some obvious holes at forward for the 23-24 season as Brodzinski, Nelson and Schmidt graduate and you have flight risks Knies and Cooley. They have two committed and you'd like to see them get some players with experience coming to campus.
Defensively they'll have Johnson, LaCombe, Staudacher graduating. Faber is an early departure. They have Rinzel, Yakesh and Rud committed. Maybe it's fine to roll with those three, but I'd be okay if they could convince Rinzel or Yakesh to play another year of juniors and grab another experienced player to commit for 23-24. Pure speculation, but I like what I've seen from Zach Sondreal, Luke Hause and Axel Begley. Motzko and Raboin have a history of getting defensive commits during that late August timeline.

With a little under a month until the next recruiting windows opens let’s look first at the 05’s. This class is STACKED with some top end forwards that we’ll be after. With next years departures we’ll need to add some D-man/Goalie depth as well. @SPmillerOSU (2/5) pic.twitter.com/d1H7B3Z1zP— The Future of Pride On Ice (@FutureGophers) July 6, 2022
Telling a first rounder (Rinzel) to play another year of juniors is a good way to get him to decommit and go elsewhere.
I’m hoping they exercise the 5th year option with Nelson for next year, although it is something that Bob and co. don’t really do. Might rub some of the players he told to move on the wrong way.
If we recruit Danny Nelson are we recruiting him for next season? He was a Sophomore this year but spent time with the U17’s and will play this season with the U18’s.
Is eligible for the 2023 draft so if we do get him I believe he would be part of the Moore/Rinzel class.

August 1 is right around the corner!
Based on recent recruiting and team success we should be a hot option.
F Danny Nelson - MG
F Beckett Hendrickson - USDP
F Teddy Townsend - EP
D John Whipple - Tonka/SSM
D Will Skahan - STA
F Brodie Ziemer - SSM
G Carsen Musser - USDP
are all top prospects plus stud non-Minnesotans
F Macklin Celebrini - SSM
F Cole Eiserman - SSM
The cupboards are kind of bare in terms of numbers, but that doesn't mean we lack talent in what we do have:
F Oliver Moore (likely first rounder)
F Jimmy Clark (Mr. Hockey favorite)
D Sam Rinzel (first rounder)
D Max Rud, D Brady Yakesh (will be nice polished pieces after years of juniors)
G Geno Pichora (a mystery)
We need commits, and a lot of them. I expect a busy August for Bob and co!
With a name like Teddy Townsend and being from Eden Prairie he can play at four schools. Minnesota, Michigan, Boston College or Harvard. That’s it, I don’t make the rules. Teddy Townsend doesn’t belong in St Cloud, Mankato, or Grand Forks. Personally I hope he comes to Minnesota, signs an NIL deal with Ralph Lauren or Brooks Brothers, and really just leans into the “popped collar” Gopher stereotype that the rest of Minnesota has about the Gophers. Just to really get their goat 😉

Would love to see the Gophers “embrace the hate” and turn heel on the college hockey world.

Whipple to Gophers :dup: :dup:
The Whipple kid will play for SSM this season?
Is that the grandson of the guy that wouldn’t let customers squeeze the Charmin?
Some guy on twitter says top prospect Cole Eiserman follows BC, BU, and Minnesota. This source is by no means 100% on his claims but he did tweet out that Whipple followed Ben Gordon hours before his commitment. So there’s at least a shred of credibility.
If any of that is true that’s definitely a good sign that we’re even on his radar as a Mass kid. I do try not to read too much into social media tea leaf reading however.
We are officially very much in the mix for Cole Eiserman. He’s down to BU and Minnesota :dup:

BU has had a really good couple of weeks. Lets hope Oliver Moore and Hendrickson can persuade him to follow them to Minnesota.

John Stout (tonka?), Will Zellers(SSM) and Carson Pilgrim(Warroad) all with multi point nights in the U17 worlds tournament
After the first initial wave of August recruits the biggest targets that still remain imo are:
Forwards
Cole Eiserman (SSM)
Danny Nelson (Maple Grove)
Teddy Townsend (Eden Prairie)
Dmen
John Stout (Tonka)
Goalie
Carsen Musser (USNTDP)
I would think John Stout is all but ours with the recent wave of skipper commits, but we shall see.
Still a Tonka guy out there?
