Has anyone calculated what the average age of rostered players will be this coming season vs. last year? We all know the importance of experience and I assume we'll be at least a little older, on average this year.
Huglen, Pitlick and Boynton are older. Lucius, Knies and Broz are 18 I believe. We also add an old transfer in Cruikshank though.

Super duper senior

I believe CHN is the site that lists the average age of every program each year, but I haven't looked to see if they've published it yet for this season.

All teams will be older with returning seniors. But the Gophers return just one senior from last season so we aren’t likely to be gaining any ground.
No incoming freshmen D this year?
This might be the deepest Gopher blueline I can remember...maybe not the best individual players, but they are going to be good on defense for all three pairings.

Lacombe, Johnson and Faber all super talented and I’d take them against anyone in the country. Koster also really talented and probably at times a little overshadowed by the other three but I was very pleasantly surprised with how well he handled the transition to the college game last year. Brinkman and Staudacher may not be quite as offensively talented as the first four I mentioned but they are as reliable as they come and they aren’t afraid to throw the body and get in the dirty areas. Finally rounded out by Fish who is big and nasty and plays with his heart on his sleeve and Denman who, I know hasn’t had a ton of playing time, but from listening to the coaches and other players it sounds like no one works harder. I would have possibly liked to have gone out and gotten another defenseman or two but it’s hard to complain with a D corps like that.

The Gophers D core…this coming season…is about as close as you can get to tUMD core from 18-19 that featured future HB winner Perunovich. paired with 6’5” 220lb bruiser Wolff, and 20-21 regular NHL shift Anderson, paired with 20-21 taxi squad NHL Samberg, & current bonus year seniors Roehl & Anderson. That ? group also included 3 World Juniors D…same as the Gopher D core had in 20-21. So it’s unquestionably Frozen Four or bust for the Gophers in 21-22!

Plus you tack on the returning richter award winner with Laffer. That’s why I still have the good guys over Michigan this year. But as people have been saying those 4 games (possibly 5 or 6) will be a treat and could go either way.

They will be a treat for sure and I can’t wait! Most years the series I’m usually most looking forward to is against UMD, UND or UW. While I’m still really excited for those weekends I think this year the games I’m most looking forward to are the ones against Michigan. Two very talented teams playing in an historic rivalry that’s quickly becoming reignited and I’ve always felt our style of play and their style of play match well for some entertaining hockey.
Pinoniemi is partaking in the Stampede 40 man roster camp this week. Is this normal for a returning player to take part in these or do we get a little concerned that he has to fight for a roster spot?

Appears no more Joe Miller in the pipeline.
Jake Braccini might be out as well.
No sure how I feel about losing a couple of these guys over keeping Warner and Strobel, but I get there’s only so much scholarship $s to go around.

I would take those two over Warner and strobel in a heartbeat
There were too many forwards lined up. It was bound to happen. It doesn't mean Warner and Strobel or the Mittelstadts will for sure end up on campus, either.
Joe Miller is 5’9” and 147 lbs as a 19 year old? That’s pretty tiny. I didn’t know he was that small.
Thought Miller would wind up a solid, four year contributor at the U. Can see him really having a strong career elsewhere. I am sure Braccini lands on his feet but don't see him moving the needle for a program.
Still skeptical Warner ends up on campus. Has not played a NAHL game yet. I wonder if the shoulder injuries just took their toll.
I really liked Miller in hs. He is such a smart player. They probably wanted him to play 2 more years in juniors and he wasn’t on board with that plan.

I liked him, too. I remember he had a silky-smooth skating stride and was light on his feet. It's hard I suppose to be the star of your team growing up only to be told you need to play junior hockey for a couple of years before you're ready for the next level.
5'9" is smurf-ish, considering they're stretching that probably a little.
Assuming Walker and McLaughlin are not planning to use their extra year - which I highly doubt - we'll lose those two and possibly Meyers. No other obvious choices.
Incoming:
- Chaz Lucius
- Jimmy Snuggerud
- Garrett Pinoniemi
- Connor Kurth
- John Mittelstadt
- Charlie Strobel
- Nate Warner
Expecting more shuffling.

Has anyone seen Strobel play recently? I saw him only in the tournament and thought he played with a big heart and an uncommon determination. Good team guy.
The question I had then and now is, does he have the skills to play at this level?
Moving on from a lot of the Bell recruits. Nick Williams still listed MN on Youngstown line chart last night…..
Seeing as we’re low on D we could hang on to Williams he doesn’t make very many “splash” plays but he’s pretty solid. Denman like. As for forwards we’ll lose Walker, McLaughlin, I think Cruikshank and that’s honestly it. We have to see how the season plays out though obviously.
I think it all comes down to scholarship money and timeline.

I agree. My thought was Braccini and Miller were higher scholarship and Warner and Strobel could be more “walk on” type with way lower scholarship $s. I would think J. Mittelstadt is lower $s too and if you want Luke you have to keep older bro in the pipe.
I am curious how Pinoniemi has progressed since hs. Honestly wasn’t a huge fan, very passive and played on the fridge a lot. I’m guessing he has progressed and his numbers in USHL are decent.

I saw Pinoniemi play in person his 1st full year at SF and it was not good. Last year I did not get to see him in person, but his points went up ( only 1 more goal ) from 20 to 37 points. This year will be a big year for him and hopefully he will continue to take a leap forward, just like Jaxon Nelson did in his 3rd year in the USHL. He as 2 points in 2 games so far this year. I am mixed on him, just as I was on Joe Miller. Just need to see how the season plays out.

Miller will go to a very good school. Guessing he didn't like being pushed back a year. That is a loss but it happens.
