There is no current play to discuss regarding Wiese because he hasn't even worn the M yet, and no one suggested players are above criticism once a season starts.

Fine. I’m hoping he plays USHL next season but it looks like he’ll be returning to Edina for his senior season. Oh well, can never really fault a player for that.

Brother played at Minnetonka last year and is going to BCHL. Could be a potential older commit in the future.

Looks like young Mr. Whipple grew up in New Jersey before moving to Minnetonka before his final year of bantams

Great get. Not that they struggled recruiting defensemen previously but curious if Steve Miller's presence had an impact here.

I just like the fact they they are slowly developing a pipeline of players from the NE coming to the program.  I have always been more of a "get the best players to form a team" guy and less about the all Minnesota thing.  With all the competition with the numerous schools in that region, it's nice to see people like Whipple and Cooley in the Middle of the country.

Whipple has lived in Minnesota full-time for a few years so it's a little different than Cooley's situation, but it's still good to see.

I see toilet paper rolls on the ice when he gets his hat trick.

Write-up on Whipple from Neutral Zone:

’06 (D) John Whipple (★★★★½) – Shattuck St. Mary’s 15U

Whipple was our No. 1 rated defenseman at the U.S. NTDP evaluation camp and he’s slated to play for the U.S. NTDP U17 team this upcoming season. In 54 games last year for Shattuck he finished with 55 points (18g, 37a) and 91 PIMs. Whipple is a Minn. native who has been with Shattuck for the last two seasons. At the NTDP camp, our scouts said that Whipple “was not only the best defenseman at the camp, he was the best overall player.”

NZ Scouts: “He’s an excellent skater, strong on his edges, balanced, agile, quick in all directions and has the speed and pivot to stay tight on any forward here, including the U17’s. He is aggressive in his gaps, he has a strong, active stick to knock pucks away and lift sticks around the net front to take away second chance opportunities. He broke up countless passes into the slot which was a result of his body positioning, his aggressive nature to jump plays before they start and his quickness to see it and immediately make a play to pick off the pass. Whipple is smooth in his puck play, he can hammer a guy into the boards, steal the puck and then immediately slow it down, create space with his skating ability and move pucks up ice.”

August 1 is right around the corner!

Based on recent recruiting and team success we should be a hot option.

F Danny Nelson – MG

F Beckett Hendrickson – USDP

F Teddy Townsend – EP

D John Whipple – Tonka/SSM

D Will Skahan – STA

F Brodie Ziemer – SSM

G Carsen Musser – USDP

are all top prospects plus stud non-Minnesotans

F Macklin Celebrini – SSM

F Cole Eiserman – SSM

Two of the players from Maroon and Gold's list.

He is 6'1" and the son of Darby Hendrickson.  That alone should make him your favorite Gopher the moment he steps on the ice.  I can't wait to see another Hendrickson!

He was a Skipper, but we won't hold that against him....for long.

#18 -- Oliver Moore

HM-- Beckett Hendrickson

There are a few uncommitted players on the list that the Gophers are still in the hunt for.

Javon Moore of Minnetonka just committed to the Gophers. Looks like a great talent. Congrats to him!

Tonka seems to be the new Edina for Gopher recruiting. Moore is 6'2" as a 16 year old. So, he should still have some growing to do. He had 37 points in 27 games for Tonka last year.

Wasting little time locking in some of those early commits. Still ample spots left at forward for 2023. Guessing a few older recruits take those spots.

For anyone that would like to get a peek at some of the latest commitments, the NTDP U17 team will be at the Super Rink for a couple of games during the annual NAHL Showcase. They play the Johnstown Tomahawks on Friday, September 16th at 8:45 p.m. and the Maine Nordiques on Saturday, September 17th at 7:15 p.m.

It’s almost as if the problem was with those who left. The name on the front is a heck of a lot more important than the one on the back.

I think the Gophers are in good hands with the 3 players wearing letters this year. Faber being named a captain for the World Juniors speaks volumes, Nelson is a hard working role player and LaCombe is a quiet guy who leads by example. The main job is for them to prevent cliques and make sure all the players, regardless of role are treated equally, and I have confidence in all 3 leaders.

I agree with F4C. Brock is a great person and the right leader, along with Nelly and LaCombe. Two quiet, but hard working and good people. LaCombe is quietly the funniest guy on the team.

I’m flattered to be wanted to comment on the recruits for this group and they are good. Two home runs, a triple and a double with the possibility of a grand slam. No one said bob couldn’t recruit.

I’m not saying he is as good as Logan Cooley (maybe he is?) but the description of his game and his talents sound very similar!
