I hope it wasn't Team USA's choice to use Party in the USA as their goal song...

After a sluggish start with a few too many penalties, Team USA is starting to play better and getting more chances.

Seems strange, but each teams top 3 players are named before the medal round.

Since this seems to be the spot for the Under 18 tourney....the US  is down 4-3 to SWE in the gold medal game early third.

Swedish goalie has been lights out.

I'm usually a little skeptical when someone gives me shots on goal but good grief 51 shots...and to give up 4 goals on 14 shots? Oof.

I guess the story of this one is goal tending.

I didn’t watch the entire thing but it was clear that Sweden’s goalie was making some ridiculous saves and the US goalie didn’t really have one in him.

Maybe Swedens goalie wants to come play college hockey…

Watching the U18 tournament this weekend, I see a lot of Ryan Lindgren in Ryan Chesley's game.

Rinzel seems like one of the highest upside players in the pipeline. With a year in the USHL after his draft year, curious how long he is on campus.

He's still raw enough (senior year next year), that the expected number of years on campus should be around 2.5. If Faber stays three years, no one other than a physical Lindgren type should be leaving after two.

Pretty sure Lindgren left after the coaching change too which isn’t a typical scenario.

I think Bob hasn't been doing the whole 5th year thing because it would cause a backup in the recruiting pipeline. Since we only have 3 forwards lined up for fall 2023, I wonder if Bob tosses a guy like Nelson a fifth year. Undrafted so he wouldn't have an NHL team breathing down his back, and would be physically imposing as a 5th year (already is). Good for both parties. Obviously a year away but I wonder if we see Bob and co. start to use that option more down the road.

I also don’t know how much pro hockey is in Nelson’s future. This is just a rumor I’ve heard from a couple of people involved in hockey down in SW Minnesota but apparently when he’s done at the U he might give the pros a shot (probably the minors) but would eventually like to go back down and farm.

I keep thinking there is more to Nelson's game that hasn't come out yet. He's physical and has some skill, but  he hasn't put it all together. I get a little irritated watching him shadow opponents when they have the puck. He's not nearly disruptive enough for me, and, with his size and strength, he could be.

He has the pro physique, but he's a long way from signing an NHL contract.

At this stage in their careers (entering year four on campus), we know who players are and massive leaps are rare.

Pronman released his Top 29 for the 2022 NHL Draft.

Cooley at 3. Snuggerud at 24. No Chesley or Rinzel.

Rare but not unheard of. I could see him being a 10 goal scorer this season.

I’ve seen Chesley in just about every first round mock draft in the 25-32 range, and Rinzel in quite a few. When’s the last time we had 4 first rounders in the same year?

I'm guessing it will be three. It will be interesting to see how many Michigan gets, too. If they get more near the end of the first, it likely means they're taking the spots from guys like Chesley and Rinzel.

I'd think 6 or 7 from the two teams combined.

Maybe we should get GoldyShuffle to have his/her own thread.  Since they seem to have all the "ins" and "outs" of Gopher Hockey.  And only they can post in it... Name it 'Goldy's Truffle Shuffle'!!!

He seems to be like Mittelstadt (magic hands and creativity), just improved in like every facet of the game. A super high ceiling but honestly it might also benefit from 2 years before going to the NHL... Not that I expect it.

2 years seems realistic barring a coaching change. 1 year wouldn’t be entirely unexpected but if Michigan’s players are any indication then 2 years seems likely.

Michigan has worked it another way, though. They are getting a lot of their top end guys in their draft eligible years (Power, Johnson, Brisson, Fantilli), which allows them to get two years more often.

2 years is unexpected but would be sweet. A lot of the time the team that drafts him matters in this. Hearing he’s likely 3rd overall so Arizona. They might want him after a year.
