To me a coup would mean he was heading elsewhere and he flipped.
Or expected to go somewhere else. He said biggest coup since Kessel and in that sense Kessel hadn't committed elsewhere. We also don't know if that poster is credible whatsoever.
Kessel was a Madison native wasn't he? Fair to say wisco had the upper hand on him. I hate to agree with this guy but the other poster has provided no reason to believe they weren't blowing smoke
Yes that's why I said "expected to go somewhere else"...
Getting a metro kid to stay at the U is not a coup unless they're legacy for a premium school. It might be a huge get - one you're excited to have - but was it really stolen?
There are some wires being crossed here. Moore is a big commitment. But he is not the player the questionable credibility poster was referencing in the other thread.

Just going from memory, I think he liked the Minnesota high-flying (low results ) style of play over Wisconsin's clogged-pipe strategy.
If I'm remembering this correctly, Kessel pulled a "Parise" by matriculating with the arch enemy in a year his homer team won a national title.
The below list is some of the top NHL prospects to come out of MN lately. Obviously some are missing and some don't belong. It shows Motzko may have things moving in the right direction of keeping the top talent in the Twin Cities. Also sweet is the Whioux not hitting on top MN guys recently other than a legacy.

Jess has to be trolling us now... We obviously hope for much more from him than we've gotten from Walker.
I regret unhiding that last one.
Kurth with two more goals tonight. Looks like someone who can contribute immediately.

I know you said this isn't a comprehensive list but I can think of a handful of players that could be added from the '22 and '23 draft classes. Either way, definitely nice to see a fair amount bolded in the recent classes and now we wait and see how they actually pan out.
Our beloved Gophers land a top top recruit and you guys are debating whether it qualifies as a coup or not…

I am.
I jumped the gun and announced it when I was told there was a 70% chance he was flipping. My source for that was a parent of a very prominent player (not a current Gopher) who played on many teams with Brink.
I get crap for that all the time here. No biggie - I hoped I was breaking big news, but swung and missed. Lesson learned.
Curious, what does that have to do with my statement above?

I think the debate is whether or not Moore is the recruit the OP was referring to, or is there another guy coming that is the coup?
Looks like Cal Thomas was dealt to the Chicago Steel
The Pride of MV or does that still belong to Bostrom?

His shot release style reminds me of someone but haven't pinpointed it yet. Was thinking maybe McLaughlin but I don't think that's it. Might be Lucius.

He wasn't referring to Moore. It seems as if everyone just read the discussion that was had in the Potential Recruits thread there wouldn't be any confusion.
For anyone not familiar with Oliver Moore, here is a highlight compilation from his freshmen year at TG:
Obviously a couple years old and not against the greatest competition but you can at least get a little sense of the type of player he is.
Luke Mittelstadt with 2 goals and an assist tonight.

He has 38 points in 40 games.
I think the last USHL 40 point D man for the Gophers might have been... Kevin Wehrs in 06-07.
I'm almost impressed by this

Ouch!!!

If he's from the city of Mounds View, he'd actually be an Irondale kid...but he went to TG.
City of Mounds View goes to Irondale, unless you open enroll to Mounds View High School (Mounds View High School is Arden Hills, Shoreview, North Oaks). Irondale is New Brighton and city of Mounds View.
Bostrom went to Mounds View High School. But the pride of Mounds View High School is probably Adam Weber or Billy Turner.
Scott Wheeler's Top 64 draft list at The Athletic included four Gophers:
Snuggerud at 19
Chesley at 40
Rinzel at 52
Lucius at 61

That McClanahan kid was all right.

Luke Mittelstadt also an honorable mention as an over-ager.

Moore listed as a candidate for a top 10 pick

You’ll notice all three of the U.S. NTDP forwards included here are centres. And next season, once Stramel goes off to college, the expectation will be that Moore and Will Smith (more on him below) will carry the load offensively at the program as a 1-2 punch down the middle. Moore impressed me on my November trip to Plymouth to watch the U18 team play (he was up from the U17 team and played well) and I’ve really liked what I’ve seen whenever I’ve watched him on tape as well. Moore wants to hang onto the puck and make plays, he’s got an impressive one-timer from the right flank, and he uses some clever movement patterns to make defencemen miss and get to his spots as a shooter.

That’s impressive for that draft class
Logan Cooley!
YES! One of the biggest commitments in Gopher hockey history!!!
Let's gooooo! That's huge. :dup: :dup: :dup:
He took it off now per a tweet after that. But I see it still. Probably just crossing T's and dotting I's.
Sounds fairly coupish to me
This deserves an “As the ? Cooley Turns”
Just checked and it is still there for me.

Does this mean you are going to buy more tickets to games next year?

Wowza. Kudos to whomever it was who suggested the coup.
Wait, does this mean there's not room on the roster for Brink to transfer in this fall?
Does this mean you are going to buy more tickets to games next year?
Yes.
Now we need him to bring Knies and Faber back!

Played with Pichora in 2019-20. May be a coincidence or could have helped a bit, too.
I love this kid already!
