Gino Pechora's development has really gone south. Playing a in terrible league and is 27th in Save %.
Owen Bartoszkiewicz getting acclimated to USHL, doesn't have great numbers...Maybe dipping in the portal for a goalie for next year.

I believe Owen will be good but yes Geno is struggling in a no name league. It’s a shame, I wanted a Geno on campus. You gotta raise your eyebrows a bit when we offer a goalie at age 16 like we did with Geno, I wonder what made him such a lock at that age…
I think Owen will figure it out too. I just think another year in USHL might be best.
Minnesota produces a lot of solid starting goalies and we never seem to want one from here.
Bartoszkiewicz doesn't turn 19 until March. I highly doubt the intent was for him to enroll next fall.
Do most schools have volunteer goalie coaches or just UMN? Wisconsin was dominant with goalies for a long, long time. They had the same coach for eternity and it worked out well for them. It always made me wonder why we insist on the ever-rotating goalie coach.
If you were a goalie and had your pick of schools, would you pick the school with no long-term goalie coach plan?
Agree totally
I think for some odd reason hockey is restricted to a number of coaches and goalie coach is a luxury. But I am not certain.
It seems odd to not have a permanent, paid goalie coach at the level.
Teams are only allowed two paid assistants, so a paid goalie coach is pretty rare.
^^^^ This.
Rob Stauber was the U's volunteer goalie coach from 2000 - 2008. Not sure who the goalie coach is now.
Tact is the ability to step on a man's toes without messing up the shine on his shoes - Harry S Truman
Makes sense, but felt like the names after Stauber were lacking. Just remembered we got the Mankato guy so hopefully that works out with stability.
Just like how the Director of Hockey Ops is a kid that literally just graduated. Think that's odd for one of the big programs in the country. Who else applied?

I heard he taught Richter McKay everything he knows
Bill Howard is the badger goalie coach in question. He was a volunteer coach from 1972 to 2008. I don’t know if I’ve ever heard of a payed goalie coach.
2nd week in a row a Gopher commit has been honored.

I absolutely love Kurths game I know we have more highly touted recruits but he’s the one I’m most excited for
Scott Wheeler posted his top 64 prospects for the 2022 draft today. Ryan Chesley is #20.

Chesley’s counting stats aren’t where he’s used to having them (or where first-round picks usually have them) this season but I haven’t actually had serious issue with the way he has played. Most of the underlying numbers are still there, he’s defending well, and he’s still regularly demonstrating tools that project. He’s a sturdy four-way skater who plays hard, defends with tight gaps, commands his ice in control of the puck, and plays with a boldness offensively that sees him join a lot of rushes and frequently attack off the line to use his point shot (which comes off of his blade hard). I don’t think he’s a particularly creative player (there are times when he would benefit from slowing things down both offensively and defensively) but the other makings of a good top-four defender are there.
Chuz Lucius is #46
Jimmy Snuggerud is #48

What other NCAA kids are on the list?
Chesley was mentioned as a top 5 pick last year. Appears to be falling down lists after a slow start points wise.

I'm not all that tuned in to other teams recruits, but it appears the highest American kid is Logan Cooley ( Notre Damme recruit) at #9. Then Isaac Howard at #11, Frank Nazar #12, Rutger McGroarty #14, Seamus Casey #17. Those are the American players that are before Chesley. Jack Hughes ( Northeastern ) is the 1st college kid on the list at 22. The only other college kid on the list is Jack Divine from Denver @33. Bunch of the U18 kids on the list.

Gonna be a hard sell to keep him in the USHL one more year
Gonna be a hard sell to keep him in the USHL one more year
Nah, not gonna happen. Cut ties with Mittelstadt/Warner/Strobel if you have to.
Was another year in the USHL the plan for Kurth? Was always under the impression he was a 2022 lock.
Pretty sure 2022 was always the plan, no chance he is back in the USHL next year
I mean this website does have him in the 2023 slot it was an option but seeing how he’s tearing it up I don’t believe that will happen
Talked to a close family member of his, this is what she said. " He is planning on the U after this year."

Well there it is. He’s playing like it too :dup:
Helps that he’s already 207lbs, should be able to handle physical aspect of college hockey. Different than bringing in Brody Lamb at 165lbs.
Kurth, Pinoniemi, Snuggerud, Lucius coming in it’s impossible for Strobel and Mittelstadt to make it to campus?
Strobel signed today too.

If that’s the case then that’s too bad. I don’t anything about Mittelstadt but I was excited to see what Strobel brought to the team. I will fully admit that part of it was me wearing the “player-had-a-good-state-tournament” goggles but from everything we heard from and about Strobel he seemed like the kind of player we could really use.

Nothing is impossible. If the 3 senior forwards leave, and maybe Meyers and another wildcard leaves.... Remember, the portal makes it easier for players who play on the 3rd or 4th line and are unhappy with that role, to leave for another school.

Meyers will have suitors after this season, I know the Wild are interested as Bill Guerin has been around campus this fall.

And he was in someones development camp this summer on the east coast. I think it was Boston's, but not 100% on that.
Edit-- I did find him on the Bruins camp roster.

Apparently Strobel signed so nevermind. Just seems like a big log jam to fill like at most 5 spots

And Meyers recently turned 23 years old, he likely signs after this season after getting a max free agent offer, hopefully from the Wild.
Idk… Meyers strikes me as a guy that would come back for his 4th year dunno why

He might, but he is the same age as Casey Mittelstadt, so there’s that. He’s a really good player & great kid, however it turns out.
I could see Meyers going either way, little more likely to leave.
Any thoughts on Cruikshank? Think he’ll take a 5th year or try his hand at pro hockey?
Pinoniemi and Thomas signed today as well.

Actually he could come back for 2 more years if he wants.
No Chesley and Snuggerud signings because they’re out in Switzerland I assume?

Lucius signed. I'm guessing the other two did too. NTDP didn't announce theirs yet. Usually that's when they get back. Lucius might have just been in a hurry to.

Lucius didn’t make the trip to Switzerland because he’s battling an injury right now
