Why did Pitlick get a 10 min? What did I miss?
The hockey gods are paying us back for the stick-throw. 🙁
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
So, is Barto a Bob recruit? I’m still not sure on his goaltending evaluations.
Ugly 5 minutes of hockey.
Mason Nevers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have no video or audio. Per USCHO it's 4-2 UND but it looks like only 1 goal has been scored so far going off this thread.
The 2ne period went nuts.....

Guess we found out who paid the refs more?
(At risk of sounding like a hawks fan). But yeah, just because they are historical goons doesn’t mean they should get away with more.

4-3 UND
was the boarding call against the Gophs that started the Whioux scoring a legit call?
Of course the ss.com fans are complaining about the refs non-stop.
Snuggy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pitlick missed the second half of the 2nd period due to the 10 minute miss conduct penalty. Coach benched him for the first 2/3 of the 3rd period. He just got his first shift.
Unless a 0.6 happens, and this game goes to OT, most likely, I will "smoke a goal (and not the wacky stuff)" like I did last night. I owe it to the team as a long time fan... 😉

@Cowgirl and I need to combine our powers, then MN would be undefeated. 😉
Those who get it, will get it. For those who don't, lol, have fun figuring it out.

I personally think the goal should count I won't lie...
A stupid 5 minutes of hockey makes for a split.
Great series. Shitty Saturday when the football team is included.
That’s the problem with watching kids play a game. Sometimes they’re immature and blow it. Nice to see them claw back into it I guess.
I hope that lights a fire for the rest of the season.
I'll take it. Also proves that when I go have a smoke in OT, someone scores. I have to refine this talent, of course, but...

That used to be the reason people liked college sports (or high school) the immaturity and mistakes made it fun!
I only saw like 5 minutes (I dvred I will watch both games later) but I'm not too upset with the overall outcome.
We pooped our pants for a few minutes, and they took advantage. Not the night to test backup goalie imho.

1. Keep Close in, go for sweep.
2. Test our backup, just in case, test our intestinal fortitude.
It backfired (we think; who's to say Close would have done any better?), but it was a test of the team. I would have preferred this move against a conference opponent, but then again, I'm sitting on my couch, not behind a bench. 😉

Some shitty bad bounces cost the game. The Gophers are the better team by a mile. I actually don’t feel bad about this loss. Use it for motivation.
I honestly don’t see it being different if Close starts.
3 of the goals were powerplay goals. To blame Barto is nuts.

I don’t think any of the first 4 goals were on Barto and the first 2 were unsaveable bounces off defensemen. He was pulled to spark the team and it worked, not sure how tBob is to blame.
What an odd game. I thought the Gophs were going to win 8-0. Really love the talent this years team has. It's like Michigan last year!
I still don't know what happened with our goalies. Close couldn't play, then he played? Idk.
Flatlanders should have had ten interference penalties.
Gopher defense is elite but I thought the defenseman was a little nonchalant on the ot rush.
The Gophers were the better team both nights. After the Gophers went up 2-0 I knew North Dakota would start to goon it up. For some reason, our D (which is the best in the country) allowed North Dakota to crowd our goalies and whack in garbage goals. I'm a big Coach Motzko supporter, but I would have stayed with Close for tonight. Barto will have plenty of chances against ASU, Mich St type teams. Lastly, one of my pet peeves is Officials who feel like they need to be part of the game (that 2nd period was terrible). Oh well, a split isn't the end of the world. It just feels like we left some money on the table.

That's kind of where I'm sitting. If Close were in the whole time, same situation...who's to say it would end up different? However, in hindsight...I might have saved this substitution for a conference game. In hindsight.

Seems pretty obvious Bob wanted Barto to get a game against a good team in case he is needed when it matters.
If Barto only plays NTDP and St. Thomas and then is needed in the conference tourney you'd whine that Bob should have given him meaningful games. No winning with you clowns.
Agree with the take, but dial it back about 20%, Superchief. 😉

I think it’s obvious who the better team was this weekend, unfortunately couldn’t get the result. There’s only so much you can do when the bounces and reffing don’t go your way. Cooley shouldn’t have facemasked that dude but Knies I think it was had the same thing happen right before that and no call. Idk why Bob didn’t challenge it back honestly.
Very unlucky game for Bart, not much you can do when Faber gets hit in the toe and the puck bounces perfectly into the net at a weird angle. They were good at crashing the net and deserve all the credit in the world for that but they had a few really weird bounces go against them.
Hopefully next week they just focus on playing hockey and get the results, they have the talent to do so. OSU is up in the PWR too so that’d be helpful in that sense too.
dont blame coach for pulling bart to spark the team, didnt think bart played bad or anything most of the goals were not ones to blame on goalie so to speak.
feel like the bench needs to be shortened during 3v3 situations. sucks losing to sioux, on to the next games.
The refs didn't decide the game. That talk is as silly as blaming Barto.
We’ll see in 4 hours whether that was the right call. Owen is a very good goalie.
Aaand survey says it was not the right call. We win this game with Close in net.
Pure and utter domination. Super annoying. I’ve never been so sure a team is headed for a frozen four than watching this team this weekend.
Nodak had NOTHING all weekend. Tonight fell in their lap.
That 4 or 5 min collapse reminded me of the Union game. The Bison outplayed MN for a grand total of maybe 10 minutes combined in both games.
No idea why Motzko puts Nelson in there for a second shift in OT. Maybe he was thinking for the faceoff but he got beat on that goal. Bad decision in my opinion.
Pitlick put his team in a hole by stupidly throwing his stick in the crowd. I get that Motzko wants to send a message, but with Cooley out, it hurt the team to bench him. Why not just call him into the office and pound the table a couple times?
Probably good growing pain for MN, and I'm glad I'm a fan of this team and not one with 6 super seniors and a transfer goalie that literally salvaged a weekend for them.
It’s clear where this team is gonna be come March. Once the freshmen turn the corner it’s game over for anyone else in the country and I mean that.

Collective punishment. Did it work? We’ll see. Results overall show it doesn’t make much of a difference in changing behavior. Really comes down to the collective in question, though.
I thought Pitlick’s goal and celly was pretty awesome, whatever the repercussions. Dumb rule or call, whichever it was.
As an aside, many of the NoDak fans I encountered tonight were pretty pleasant to be by and didn't say anything inappropriate around my daughter. Sad to say that I'd take that crowd vs a standard NFL crowd, home or away.
Though, the biggest lulz of the night in the stands was two couples sitting together a section over from us. Two gopher fans and two nodak fans. The nodak guy looked pretty buzzed up from the get go, gets pissy when having to move one seat down because they were sitting in wrong seats. Then he said something and his girlfriend/wife/sister punches him in face a few times. While they may have salvaged a standardized percentage score in UND remedial Algebra, that dude is couch sleeping tonight.
I thought the passing and movement of the pick tonight was way better than last night. The quality of shots better, but a brain fart for a few minutes did them in. I don't think it'd be different close vs Barto. I'm happier to see they didn't fold under the pressure and clawed back. Gonna be a hell of a team to try and mess with.
Shout out to the penalty box guy for giving my daughter a puck, she was over the moon
What a wild weekend. Thoughts/comments:
1. The Gophers are special this year. I came away from this weekend super excited and hopeful. I truly believe we will outplay/out chance everybody we play. Now, winning it all, we can only hope. Maybe this is the year!
2. Bonehead decision by Pitlick. I think he basically lost his mind after scoring. I give credit to Bob for sitting him for as long as he did. Lots of lessons learned tonight.
3. Not Barto’s fault for playing, but I am really questioning Bob for starting him. Don’t get it. Play your best players.
4. Why is Brodzinski on the ice for 3 on 3? Seriously, am I missing something here?? I am dumbfounded.
5. Lacombe and Faber are incredible hockey players.
6. Want to highlight Huglen and Lamb also. They played great.
It still counts as .333 of a win in the power rankings.
As a UND coach/player in a post game interview, how do you say with a straight face anything other than we got lucky.
Regarding Pitlick, if you wanna whip that celly out after an OT winner for style points by all means do it I don’t care. But to do that in the middle of a game is stupid.

Good Post and I agree with everything stated. I like Brodzinski on power plays and 5 on 5 situations, but he should NEVER see the ice in 3 on 3 situations (especially on a Olympic rink). I believe his guy (Senden) got the winning goal.
