I think it’d be neat if #8 gave the boys a pre-game message. He’d definitely have everyone’s attention & I’m sure that would get everyone focused & ready to go!
Either way, I just hope the boys play their best game of the season tonight and regardless of what happens, this year/team has been fun to watch!
Good luck boys & get it done!
SKI-U-MAH!
Its a good day to be a golden gopher hockey fan.
I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.
Driving now to be in wisconSIN by 9 o'clock to buy some fireworks… And if and when the Gophers win, I'm lighting up the Rosemont sky!!!
Keep your stick on the ice...
Not directly related to the game, but Bob teasing again with Russo about 2 of the 3 from the top line returning. What a joy that would be.
Coach has more of a sense of humor than I realized but the fact that he has now mentioned this multiple times I think means he knows something. Obviously, things can always change but I will not be surprised if this comes true.
I have said it a couple times in the past few weeks and last night even more as Cooley got knocked around a couple shifts. Skill-wise, Cooley and Snuggerud are ready for the next level. Size and strength-wise, not so much. Knies is gone, but I would be surprised if either Cooley and Snuggy leave and shocked if they both go.
While it would be amazing if all 3 were to come back next season, Knies is ready physically to move on to the next level. Cooley and Jimmy Snipes would be better served by returning for another year to get stronger and bigger under Cal Dietz. Your thoughts? ?
It is 9am and I'm already nervous as hell. Gonna be a long day.
I don't think it would be unusual at all for Cooley to stay. It might be preferred actually and worse on him to play in a more physical league. Besides, its not like they play women's hockey at Mariucci.
An extra year in college and he probably jumps right to the big team. If they dont think he's ready physically, why risk playing him for a season on the minor league affiliate where he'll get the crap knocked out of him?

I'm not nervous...yet. Nerves kick in about an hour before game time. Adrenaline has been pumping since 7am, though.
And needless to say, for those not in Tampa, the live chat will be going for the game.

These game are so thick with tension that it's probably harder on the fanbase. We can only watch.
I expect the same kind of game as last season. Kato couldn't win playing their lockdown style two games in a row against skill teams. Hopefully, we'll see the same result tonight.....but it will be stressful to watch either way because the game will be close.
@gopherlife My thoughts? Agree 100%! Seeing all three back seems an impossible ask...but wishes do come true.
The Q knocking off Ohio, Michigan, and us for their first Natty would be an impressive the run.... but I don't see it it happening.
My Prediction: Knies & Snuggy get a goal each. Gophers Win 4-1.
Probably the most enjoyable stress of your life. I still remember like yesterday sitting at the X watching the game vs. Maine. Never been so nervous in my life. I think I would have been less nervous jumping out of an airplane without a parachute. However, I will say watching in person is 1 million times better than on TV. You are there stressing right next to thousands of others feeling exactly the same way. Somehow makes the same amount of stress "less stressful". :0These game are so thick with tension that it's probably harder on the fanbase. We can only watch.

For youngsters, enjoy this. I started watching in the late 80s. Waiting until 2022 for a title seemed like a lifetime. I would have bet my life we'd wouldn't wait another 20 years. So, Gophers let's get this done! It's been long enough.

Definitely the most enjoyable stress. For their last title, I remember I was at the Mandelay Bay sports book (on the bar rail) with a friend, and we had to beg to get ONE tv on the game. By the end of the 1st, the whole rail was college hockey fans. That bartender was SO confused. 😀

Keep them at 2 goals or less and we will win this game. Don’t force anything. Wear them down throughout the game.
Go Gophers!

Oh man I can’t wait until game time. Let’s make history Gophers!!

I made this same observation. Keep the puck going forward to pressure the offensive zone. This team is good enough to play fundamental hockey and not take chances.
No chances high in the zone, no home run cross ice passes, and flip the puck out of trouble.
If they come out like they did the last game it doesn’t matter imo what the other team is, that was a mission statement performance all around. BU looked so lost and just totally ambushed by speed and intensity. Quinny will be more ready I think but all I hope for is that same drive and intensity from our guys and if they bring that I love our chances big time! Go out there and take it fellas’!!!!!
KISS: Keep it simple, stupid. Fundamental hockey. No glam, no showboating, just ABC hockey. The Q are not high-flyers, MN has to be sound and solid to beat them.

Prediction: 4-1, ENG, MN.

Cooley make me nervous when he makes that big circle in the zone and gets near the blue line. IIRC he lost it once there vs BU.Keep them at 2 goals or less and we will win this game. Don’t force anything. Wear them down throughout the game.

I watched the q vs Michigan game. I felt like Michigan got themselves in trouble entering the Q zone. Q would intercept and counter with odd man chances. Gophers can’t let that happen to them. IMHO. I am so anxious right now!
I find myself kicking my legs this way & that way as I watch the game. ?These game are so thick with tension that it's probably harder on the fanbase. We can only watch.

Thinking a 5-2 win with an empty netter.

I think we need to trust them to do what got them here and just play their game. Q hasn’t had to deal with a line with the type of hand skills that the KSC line has and that will likely be what breaks Q down. They do things you just don’t expect and just can’t anticipate. Nothing can prepare you for it in practice or from watching tape. Having said that, they are also REALLY good at getting the puck deep and cycling it until they break down the D and find a lane to the net. Better to play from behind their D, rather than in front of their D and I suspect this is what they will try and do. It will also wear their defense down chasing around the high numbers line. I’m OK letting them play their game that got us here, even if it is out high and then trust our D to backstop them if they do turn it over.
I actually think our D is going to be the key in this one. Perets is really good so I don’t see this being a super high scoring affair unless we get ahead early and force them to open up and take chances. Our D needs to stay home and protect against the quick transition and force them to shoot from the outside. We’ll need them to activate, but be really careful about how and when they do it. They’ve been doing this all year though, so I have a lot of trust in them. I don’t think BU had hardly any odd man rushes.
One of the benefits of the Big10 is that we not only have really good teams top to bottom (minus the last one), but they play some very different styles so we have a lot of experience adapting to opposing styles of play.
Random thought for the day: The KSC line’s jerseys add up to 182. Has there ever been a line with a higher total?
I was so nervous after the 2nd period on Thursday I don’t think I said hardly a word to my wife or anyone next to us at the arena ?
I can’t imagine what tonight will be like. I hope the Gophers score first and pounce. Our top 3 lines are so damn good, and I think our depth is going to win out. I feel confident, but Quinnipiac is a tough tough team.
I believe Melrose had a kid ay college. The hate was overblown imho.

I'm no math genius but my hair covered computer is telling me you should run those numbers again
I’ll be interested to see if tBob comes out in a more defensive stance for the first 10 minutes like we’ve done against other “trap” teams later in the season. The reward would be to not get down early but forechecking hard and scoring early would be a huge bonus. Feels like this will be 0-0 at the first intermission as the first goal will be huge.

I don’t know why I care but that would be 262.
Also, we lost to the “last one”….
I will be "that guy" and say that no matter what happens can we please enjoy the season for how awesome it was? We got to watch a great team crush all season and play the final game win or lose let's celebrate it!
Obviously the win is the most important thing, but I'd like to see Jackson lacombe get at least one point as well, he's at 99 career points right now.

I feel like snuggy is due for a few
Last title (2003) my 2 girls were 1 and 2 years old, now turning 21 and 22 very soon, my 21 YO is a huge Gopher hockey fan, I am really excited to watch the game with her tongiht and hope the Gophers can bring home #6!
Go Gophers!!

Agreed! What a fun season to watch, this team was special for sure. Finishing it off being national champions would be the cherry on top!
I was born worrying. Q looks like Mankato with speed. We'll have to play our best to beat them. If we play like we did Thursday we'll win.
If anyone in tampa wants to share some pregame activity pics to make me jealous I’m ok with that?I’m not on twitter or Facebook just sayin. I’ve loved the ones posted so far!

Do not play like we did against Union in 2014, where it was them dangling that string in front of us the whole game, and we're the kitten that ALMOST gets it every time.
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
Just ride elevator with some Q players and head coach. Some other staff told Rand the governor of CT is coming lol

Walz better find an SST and get to Tampa ASAP!
I will say this for Q. A lot of the games they played were against low pairwise teams. The Gophers played the #2 SOS. That's a lot of toughening for them. Q does not have as much experience against a variety of good teams*, yet they have shown the ability to play with the top teams as well. Good for them.
*Which is probably why a lot of people doubted them...
Time to hold a table at the bar for a few hours without getting hammered. Difficulty level impossible.
I think the system that Rand has them playing makes them tough to play against no matter what type of team they are going up against. He mentioned in his press conference about that system and he said no other college team plays it like they do, he said something to that effect anyway. and
Either way, it will probably be a tight game with the team who makes less mistakes winning. (Capt. obvious I know)
