Any word on Kurth? He wasn’t 100% and then reinjured it again. I know he came back late and it would be great if he can contribute Sat night.
Apologies if this has been asked and answered, but do we know if Faber is fully healthy? Obviously our PP was clicking last night but I was surprised he didn't seem to be out there at all.
So excited to see the boys in another big game. Q looks legit and it should be fun.
To follow up on a comment in the Semi-final thread, Ryan Johnson is definitely a guy that has flown under the radar. Our D (other than some questionable cross ice passes ? ) has been so good.
And, as others have mentioned, I'm very tired of the constant references to draft picks. What's the point? Also, I'm sure I'm biased, but they really seem to love the east coasters. Close was getting very little love and that kid deserves more praise that anyone on any team in the Frozen Four. His story is incredible.

Definitely came through in attitude from the team in the concourse after the game when they came out to see the families/etc. Happy of course, but nothing unusual,Not sure if it's been mentioned here, but talking last night, we really liked that the Gophers barely celebrated the win last night. No big pile on the goalie like Q did, just a quick huddle like it was a Friday night at Marriuci. Very focused, they know they have more work to do this weekend.
The little celebration of moving your team name on the big bracket showed the same. Q was really hooting and hollering for it, Gophers mostly silent while Faber moved it and said “One more boys.”
Personally I don’t read anything into it, but I did notice it.
Also, the group of us hanging out basically had "one more game" as our standard greeting all night, without even talking about it. Love that the team is thinking exactly the same way.
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?

Don’t know about any injury but I definitely noticed him; looked very sound defensively, good decision making with the puck and picked up an Apple

I got a sense from press conferences leading up to the FF and yesterday's game this was a business trip.
When the puck was dropped there was no doubt this is a business trip and I don't expect anything to change.

@neely Brock rarely plays on the PP. LaCombe is on the #1, while Mittelstadt and Koster are on the #2. Brock will sometimes come on late on the PP to replace the 4th forward right before the PP ends.
I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.

It's to keep casual hockey fans and pro hockey fans engaged and watching. They are trying to give these fans additional reason to keep watching because there are players that will be in the NHL that they might be interested in especially when it's an NHL team they are a fan of.

Was just going to post this. Plus now that ESPN is all in on the NHL again they have a vested interest in trying to create excitement about young players coming into the league.

Yup. It sounds cool to hear if you don't know how the NHL draft works.
@frozen4champs Understood, I just felt like he was out there a bit more in the past. With Middlestadt coming on it makes sense.
@collegehockeyaddict Great point...I do love how they advertised the NHL game that runs at the exact same time as the National Championship. I found that interesting.
They're way too carried away with it though. It's like their draft status is part of their name. John Doe 2nd round pick of the Blues gets it up to Joe Blow, 3rd round pick of the Kings.Apologies if this has been asked and answered, but do we know if Faber is fully healthy? If they were banned from using the words NHL, draft pick or round the broadcast would be silence for 60 minutes.
Minny >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Quinny
The team needs to watch a lot of Colgate vs. Q video. Colgate was 2-1 against Q this season.
"Killer" Miller is on it . . . !
Go Gophers!!
Not knowing what to do, they do what they know . . .
Knowing what to do, they sometime don't do it . . .
The 26th year of the Gopher Men's Hockey Profile got to be too much for this ol' codger to handle . . . what with all of the possible activity on the transfer portal . . . . So, I'm closing it down at the 25th year . . .
If they were banned from using the words NHL, draft pick or round the broadcast would be silence for 60 minutes.
Where can I vote for this? ?

Not directly related to the game, but Bob teasing again with Russo about 2 of the 3 from the top line returning. What a joy that would be.
After watching the Michigan - Quinnipiac game up close what the Gophers need to do is pretty simple:
Stop the long break out passes and turn them back into offense. Michigna got beat over and over on these long breakouts and even if they stopped it they could not counterattack consistently. This should play right into the Gophers hands because our defense is so skilled.
They need to be patient against the Quinnipiac goalie who is very good, get their shots on net (especially Snuggie and Knies) and hop on rebounds.
Quinnipiac is experienced and disciplined for the most part (half their players are older seniors, grad transfers, or Canadien/Swede). But they are not the most skilled team around.
The first couple minutes of the Gophers press conference is cut off in the Universities link above. This has the full press conference if anyone wants it. Also has Quinnipiac’s.

Coach has more of a sense of humor than I realized but the fact that he has now mentioned this multiple times I think means he knows something. Obviously, things can always change but I will not be surprised if this comes true.

I am starting to think there is some similarities between Q and Penn State especially as it relates to the stretch pass. Coach previously mentioned it took him a while to figure out how to play Penn State but that he now has a good idea of how to play them.

I have said it a couple times in the past few weeks and last night even more as Cooley got knocked around a couple shifts. Skill-wise, Cooley and Snuggerud are ready for the next level. Size and strength-wise, not so much. Knies is gone, but I would be surprised if either Cooley and Snuggy leave and shocked if they both go.
With our defense it should NOT (I forgot this word on original post!!!) be difficult to stop that. If you force them to put passes together they are not the most skilled team. Their long breakouts are like 4 vertical in football and they try to split the seams.
Another note about the Q-Michigan game is that the Wolverines basically double shift Hughes and their first line, and at the end of the game Hughes looked very tired.

Per Colby on ESPN, who was between the benches, Hughes may have been puking toward the end of the 2nd. Of course he got the Willis Reed treatment from Bucci during his next shift. Almost didn’t need the zamboni between periods.

We have one of the best X’s and O’s coaches in the business in Steve Miller behind the bench. Add that with the player personal we can throw over the boards at many time. I like our chances.
In the press conference today Bob said they had a really really good practice and everything is clicking right now.
The way the Bobcats play is very risky when you face a team with Faber, LaCombe, Johnson, and company. We can turn defense into offense and breaking their forwards out for deep clearing puts them at risk for odd man chance after another.
If Michigan plays well Thursday they win the game. But Portillo let in two from behind the goal line that were banked off his back and a very weak shot from a bad angle that was the killer goal.
They must have anchored the nets in concrete when they knew he was coming
So is the game at 7 or7:30? Gpl says 7:30 but other stuff says 7.

Exactly. The casual fan doesn’t understand a draft or minor league hockey and needs someone to explain what it all means anyway and by the time your done explaining everything so much else in the game has happened it’s pointless. If anything it’s confusing to the point it’s annoying to the casual fan and even more to her boyfriend.?Maybe they should just bring back the blue streak puck highlighter graphics while they’re at it.?

Before I ask my question I will say you are 100% right...I am not sure why the NHL Draft talk annoys people in any way I am hardly a casual fan and I find it interesting myself.
But I gotta ask, why are you being so standoffish towards people? Whether it is criticizing this guy for his take or jumping on me for my taste in broadcasters, you seem to be on a hair trigger. I mean I take no real offense to it and maybe you are being a bit snarky in a fun way and it is being lost because of the means of communication but you seem to be reacting to pretty innocuous opinions rather harshly and I guess I am wondering why. As far as I know we have no beef and I generally enjoy your posts and opinions even if we don't agree. It just seems weird.
YMMV.

That is kind of what I was thinking but I dont know enough about the Yotes or how Cooley feels to really speculate on that. Personally, if he was a Wild prospect I would hope they have him stay because while he is one of the two best overall players in college hockey talentwise right now I am just not sure if I think he is ready for the rougher AHL/NHL game. I also wouldn't see the point to putting him in the minors and getting his clock started (assuming it does when he officially goes pro) when you can get a free developmental year in a level he can dominate on a team filled with stars that he can shine on and learn from the best. Admittedly though, that is easy for me to say I am not the GM of a team that is struggling to even get people to show up. I just remember that Vanek played two years and after his frosh year it was obvious he was physically ready to move on if Buffalo wanted him too. I don't think Cooley is as ready as Vanek was...
But I still would say it is highly unlikely he is on the team a month from now.
My apologies, I certainly didn’t mean to be harsh or criticize anyone personally. I was really just trying to make a point and explain why and to be personally stand-off’ish wasn’t intended. It is supposed to be fun discussion and not coming across sometimes or maybe at all.
NCHC officiating crew tonight.
Won’t get to watch this one live. Work until 730p, then home to the familial obligation of helping my wife get the two toddlers to bed. I won’t get to celebrate the 4-2 (ENG) Minnesota victory with y’all in real time, but it’s going to be f-cking sweet all the same.
On the Cooley talk, I can see where him coming back wouldn't be as outlandish as many may think, I don't expect it but wouldn't be surprised either. They could have him working on his strength and faceoffs for next season to make him a more complete player.
Plus the Frozen Four is at the X. /p>
I love Bob’s response to the question about Q being older including grad transfers. He focused on what he liked about his returners and those coming in. Classy answer.
Obviously I’m wearing my maroon colored glasses and drinking the frozen four Kool-aid but I truly enjoy seeing kids like Brodzinski and Nelson getting to enjoy the fruits of four years of hard work.
On the Cooley/Snuggy topic, I hope they both stay. Hold nothing against them if they leave as they have every right to pursue their dream but there is also a lot to be gained by staying.
And one last thing. Am I the only person the remembers Barry hating on the college game back in the day? I always found it funny that he was the choice to be the color guy. While I would prefer someone other than the Buck/Melrose combo I’ve gotten used to hearing the word SHOT every 15 seconds. ?. I’ll likely miss it some day. One thing I do appreciate about Bucci is his passion for college hockey. He really does seem to appreciate the sport.
