When did you first realize you are obsessed with Mn Gophers hockey?
Got to watch and play pond hockey with almost all of the Meredith brothers ( '55 - '57 ), on the Linden Hills Park pond.
Followed the "Wooger" from the beginnings ( having played against him Winter, 1959-60 ) - 48 game seasons and in the .700s winning %. The .773 winning % in the '87 - 88 season was a start toward obsession which really blossomed with the Stauber, Bonin, and Crowley years. And even in the down years, it's been uphill ever since . . . .
Still hoping that there will be a perfect season record set by the Gophers!
Go Gophers!
Not knowing what to do, they do what they know . . .
Knowing what to do, they sometime don't do it . . .
The 26th year of the Gopher Men's Hockey Profile got to be too much for this ol' codger to handle . . . what with all of the possible activity on the transfer portal . . . . So, I'm closing it down at the 25th year . . .
Very good podcast with the Snuggeruds. Both talk about their recruiting to the Gophers and lots of other good stuff. Dave wanted Jimmy to go to Wisconsin at first because Dave was a teammate with Tony Granato.
Dave you’re loosin me here
I can somewhat understand Dave's thinking. He is friends with Granato and respected him. He also was the 1st to offer Jimmy a scholarship and didn't know Bob very well. But, ultimately, he let Jimmy decide and was happy with his decision.
Also from the podcast, Cooley was down to Mn and the Whioux, and Jimmy said Chesley had more influence on Cooley picking Mn than he did.
I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.
Vanek could have a few, but I imagine most would first think of the UNH game.
For Vanek goals I always go back to the "Northern Exposure" goal up in Alaska - you can see it on the 2002-2003 DVD.
A kind of Pitlick move through 5 defenders and then the goal . . .
Go Gophers!

@frozen4champs Chesley continues to move up the list in Gopher favorites then haha
You’re not kidding. It’s really weird too. Who gives a shit if Granato was a former teammate? The ship was sinking fast and Jimmy would have been in a really crappy situation.Dave wanted Jimmy to go to Wisconsin at first because Dave was a teammate with Tony Granato. That merits a call to CPS.
And it’s the damned badgers! ? ?

I also found it interesting in the podcast that Jimmy sites Wisconsin and Ohio State and their biggest Big 10 rivalries and not Wisconsin and Michigan like most would think.
Ultimate rivalry move. Don’t even acknowledge them.
Thankfully Jimmy chose the Gophers. They have a decent chance of making the Frozen Four for a 3rd year in a row. The 3rd time's a charm! Go Gophers!
Pound for pound possibly the best college hockey game I ever attended. Without looking I bet at least 15 players from those two teams played in the NHL.
I love Koalska jumping into the team bench after scoring the tying goal with 53 seconds left in regulation.
Ahh yes, the famously named Polish Leap! I still remember the thrill. We were sitting above the winning goal end, high in the nose bleed seats, first row. When Koalska scored I jumped up so high and so fast my husband grabbed the back of my hoodie. I would have pitched myself right over the railing.
I remember calling my dad at the end of the 2001 season and saying I thought they could win it all with the team they had in 2002, and did he want to get tickets with me. and at the game, Koalska was jacked for most of the game and I turned to my Dad several minutes before his goal and said 'Koalska is going to score tonight'. Don't ever remember making that call before or since, but something about that team made me feel like it was just destiny. Enough to overcome the years of MN sports dread of waiting for the inevitable collapse. After all those years of great teams not getting it done, it was awesome to be there. Even my dad was jumping up and down screaming after the tying and winning goals.
Unfortunately, I sort of had that feeling about last year's team, but we know how that came out.
5 of the top 50 are current or former gophers

loved reading others posts on this. I’m in my 30s so missed out on some of the glory years of old though I do remember the back to back years and watching games with my brother while my dad cheered for the green pukes. Probably realized I was obsessed watching the Wheeler diving goal. In the Past it was maybe more about players I enjoyed watching, but seeing him immediately go to the logo on the front of the jersey and how hyped he was for the M sold me and that it’s about the brand. ive followed it closely ever since and it’s why he goes down as one of my favorite Gophers of all time

I know I’m in the minority here but I’d rather they both stay in juniors and develop some more than come in and play 4th line
What would induce Bump to choose WMU over this Gophers team?
That's a head-scratcher to me unless he was going for a scholarship offer the U couldn't meet or maybe Minnesota just didn't have a strong enough interest.
Bump first went to Vermont and then transferred to Western Michigan IMO that is a likely indication that traditional top programs may not have been as interested in him.
If the Gophers, Michigan, BC, BU, Denver, North Dakota, others were interested in him IMO he likely ends up at one of them or another similar type school.

Thanks for sharing! Every time I see an interview of Bob I’m just reminded of how much I appreciate that he’s our coach. Great guy, great coach, and I really hope he and the boys get it done asap! Next April in St Paul wouldn’t be a bad place to start.
Win it all in St. Paul
This has a catchy ring to it.
I like it better than skate for six. Skate for eight sounds even better!
Hate to beat a dead horse but this thread has gotten off topic of late anyways…Lucius and Broz would have us sitting real pretty right about meow

Nah we were fine without then before and we will be fine without them now.
Between the “rumor mill” mentioned by YHH and the comments from Motzko in his interview with Jess I wouldn’t be surprised if we see Hendrickson and/or Clark added to the roster. Probably within the next week or so.
Broz had a fine sophomore season, but didn't exactly light the world on fire. 10 g and 18 a.Hate to beat a dead horse but this thread has gotten off topic of late anyways…Lucius and Broz would have us sitting real pretty right about meow
Lucius's whole family is bitter. Bitter enough to go to a very crappy team just because they are the Gopher's rivals. We don't want that toxicity on the team. It would have been nice to have both Lucius brothers on last year's team, but not if their toxic. Too bad how it played our. Get your whiny arses outta here!
I wouldn't want a Lucius anywhere near this team. Broz would be really nice to have though, so would Joe Miller.

I'm fairly certain Darby already said Beckett will be on the roster this year

Agreed, neither should be on the team this year, but not many options at this point.

Darby said Beckett would be playing for Sioux Falls in a “pre-Cooley” interview
This is why nobody should listen to me

Mike McMahon reported that Bump's top 2 were WMU and UConn.

More reckless speculation. Jimmy Clark's instagram says University of Minnesota Hockey now and not Green Bay Gamblers. I could have sworn it had the Gamblers on it before.

The best kind of speculation is reckless.
I'd agree with the posts above...would love to see Clark and Hendrickson in the USHL this year. Does not seem realistic, however. If Clark comes in, maybe he has a Brody Lamb type of season. Lamb could have used another USHL year but had his moments and looks like a solid piece moving forward.

You are correct. Seems as if that’s the first of 2 adds. I wonder if the second will just be Beckett. I would pick Hendrickson over Clark first with his 6”2 frame and already having college games under his belt but idk what Bob has under his sleeve.

Good point. While Lamb would’ve been better suited for the USHL last year he did provide value to the team, and is more primed for a breakout year this season.

True but Clark is a year older and heavier and plays center(which we just lost) with a full USHL season. Hendrickson was injured for a part of last season and needs to add some weight imo. I’m sure either or both will be fine though.
Also very possible Beckett never accelerated which was rumored at one point. Making him academically ineligible to play this year.

The ole’ social media tea leave reading strikes again! GPLers knew about it hours before it was announced!?
Elite Prospects even has changed his 23/24 place to the U.
I am the official Iowa Hawkeye football fan of GPL!
