N64 ... sum of their jersey numbers? But none of these really stand out to me as being a good line name.I don't get the references outside of karat gold...

I get that, but still, if you have to do math (simple though adding three numbers is) to understand a line name, you probably should find something else. Its a video game console.N64 ... sum of their jersey numbers? Their numbers adding to 64 was the first thing I guessed. I still don't like the choices haha.
N = Nelson who is 6'4"
(i know its the videogame/jersey # thing)
The "Pots and Pan" line for the Gopher women (Pannek, Potomak, Potomak) is a favorite line name of mine. Hard to get much better than that.
I guess we have a "winner".

I know what an N64 is... didn't get why it was their name.

I think they could have just skipped the naming of this line. If something is not obvious, do not force it.
I like N64 since I have great memories of having one... So that is fine. But as the name of this line? Eh....
Do not like how this board is run?

Yeah none of the options were very good but I’ll never fault the PR team for trying to generate some extra buzz around this team.
I don't hate it. ?
I'm with Jup on this. If a line name doesn't just sort of happen, don't worry about it. You don't need a name for every line.

A fun little clip. Needed some proofing though, the picture that was supposed to be Don Micheletti was actually Tim Harrer.
Easy to confuse those two; they played so much alike

Ran into Ryan and Rhett on the elevator in Bemidji as they were on their way to the rink (and I was on the way to the bar to pre-game). I don't think Rhett said a thing, but Ryan and I chatted for a while on the ride down to and then in the lobby for a bit. He was quite surprised and impressed that I traveled "all the way" from the cities up to watch them play.
Really nice guy.

Gophers will exit the weekend needing 6 pts to win the conference. Any combination of OSU (and probably MI) losing or MN winning 6 pts. Hopefully a WI sweep ends it.
All 3 Gophers in the top 10 in fan voting. * I know it really doesn't matter much
St Cyr is the top 10 ?

St. Cyr isn’t even a top 3 goalie in the Big Ten lol
Of course not. MSU is a big school with lots of fans to go out and vote, though.

The Skate with the Gophers is always interesting to see which players are really comfortable with the kids and really enjoy making the connections. I usually try to not be too 'media' about it and just let my kids find their way around everything. Ryan Johnson probably has a dozen-plus new fans at the minimum out of the event as he stayed until the Loyalty Program folks advised everyone it was time to get off the rink. Johnson showed off his skating by racing kids in a lap around ther rink after giving them a head start.
Anyone with kids or grandkids would surely enjoy this selection when it comes around for next year. Glad I was able to come out of my covid isolation after seven days and negative antigen tests so I could join my kids on the rink for the morning.
Johnson seems like such a genuinely nice guy. I can tell you for sure he’s a helluva hockey player. We’re lucky to have him.

LaCombe has a chance to become a free agent, but it appears as of now, he will sign with the Ducks after the season.

He should slot right into their lineup at the end of the year. Checking the schedule for any late season ANA/TOR games or ANA/MIN or MIN/TOR. Hint hint…

Are we pretty certain Knies is as good as gone after the season? I would assume so but interested to hear others thoughts.
I would bet the house he is gone.
He hasn't announced that he's leaving or anything, but I'm with Handy on this. I'd be absolutely shocked if he stayed around.

Seeing as they tossed him a contract last offseason… Gotta imagine he’s gone. I’ve said it 50 times this year: if they win a title the whole team can sign early for all I care.
Agreed. Lucia kinda got dealt a bad hand by having to adapt to major changes of the NCAA hockey landscape. It’ll be interesting to see if Motzko (and assistant coaches) can continue to recruit at this level going forward because so far in this short sample they’ve been more consistent at creating highly talented and dynamic teams (though to be fair I’d say the Lucia teams from 2001-2007 were similarly skilled).I think Bob does it fantastically. 11 of the 12 skaters in our pipeline are Minnesotan. The one that’s not? Cole Eiserman.

Great article. Knies seems like the man. Lets get that title for these guys.

Standings are shaping up for a repeat of last year’s B1G tourney. Bye, PSU, Michigan. If things and seeds hold.

Good - I hope they get another shot at UMi.
The way Sparty plays against anyone who isn’t us, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see MSU in the semi’s.
I have a buddy coming into town for the weekend of the B1G tourney final and he asked if the gophers will be playing then. Hopefully they are!
Wheeler's top 50 drafted players. His criteria-
Under my criteria, to be eligible for inclusion, a skater must:
1. Be under 23 years old. We know that by the time a player turns 23, he is largely done with the steep upward progression we see in prospects and will begin to plateau.
2. Not be a full-time NHL player. This is the arbitrary section of the criteria. Here, I trust my judgment for whether or not a rostered NHL player is still likely to bounce between levels more than I trust any pre-determined games played before the cutoff. Preference for inclusion as an NHL prospect is more likely to be given to teenagers than 22-year-olds.
3. Either be signed to an NHL contract or selected in the entry draft, without the expiration of either of those rights. Players who are signed to AHL contracts are not considered.
Gophers on the list--
#1 Cooley
#15 Snuggy
#40 Faber
#42 Knies
HM LaCombe

A few things: winning 3 of the last 4 essentially locks up the #1 overall seed. A sweep at Penn State would definitely do it.
The #1 overall seed is all but guaranteed to play the Atlantic champ barring a scenario where RIT wins the Atlantic and maybe a Hockey East team not named BU, Northeastern or UConn wins the tournament. Same could be said about UMD in the NCHC.
In all bracketologies I’ve seen we get sent to Fargo. Only if we get paired up with Penn State (they fall to the 8 seed) would we get sent out east to Allentown.
Good article. Huge weekend @ Penn State upcoming for both teams.
