is the ice super wet? Weird start to the 2nd
It seems like the ice is bad in general. A bunch of mishandled pucks on both sides.

Weird game so far. Both teams are playing defense. There has been a ton of bad passes, whiffs, and mental mistakes. Sparty won't be playing defense in the third so gophers better buckle up.
Jurecki 1-2.

Gophers don’t over pass in the offensive zone and that goal for Michigan State doesn’t happen.
Terrible play by Close and the team is really not executing the simplest of plays. Sparty scored after the Gophers blew an easy set up in the offensive zone with a pass to the feet.
Gophers were not ready to play at the start of the third. We'll see if they can get something back.
Power play not good. Spartans have the emotion...gophers flat.
At some point one of these power plays has to produce a goal.
or a loss!At some point one of these power plays has to produce a goal.
Power play is awful tonight...this ain't Ohio State
Dorwart 2-2, SHG.

Crap!
I knew if we didn’t score on one of these 70 power plays that would happen 🤦♂️
Well that power play produced a goal….
Golden chokers...after 6 minutes on the power play the Gophers hand State a chance to win....another weak goal mouth goal by close.
Russell 3-2.

Game over, MSU wins 3-2.

Unbelievable.
Wtf did I just watch
Kurth was a train wreck tonight...

5 straight inept power plays
Once again they can’t perform for 60 minutes. It is beyond old.
That was brutal. Gophers got worse and worse and worse as the game progressed. By the end they couldn't make wide open passes without fumbling the puck.
Put it behind you and get the split tomorrow.
That's the story of the season right there. No Snuggy rescue tonight and they fold like a cheap suit in the 3rd despite all the calls going their way. Just wow.
That game honestly reminded me of their NC loss. They had it...and they gave back.
So much for the feel good sweeps over juggernauts Robert Morris and Ohio State. It was time to put the big boy pants on tonight and they laid a turd.
I'm going to be sick. 40 great minutes followed by 20 minutes of sickening play. I am beyond dissapointed right now
I can handle losing, but damn it's hard how they lost. Our D is just not good offensively and the play on front of the crease is offensive.
They looked tired at the end.
Can't dick around with the puck on the blue line but they do.

Close needs to take a rest.
Does Bob even kick the trash can at this point? Wtf was that? Complete control of the game, keeping everything to the outside, and then just crap it away. It’s like they gave up the first goal and just shrunk and panicked. Through three games this year against MSU that’s three third period leads blown and six points left on the table. We’re at 23 points and they’re now at 37. Flip just those three third periods and we’re at 29 and they’re just two points ahead of us at 31. Gophs knew the Spartans were going to make a push and this still happens. Just beyond embarrassing.
Bob after the game said our youth didn’t show up tonight. I couldn't disagree more. The leadership didn’t show up. Can’t blame the kids when we have veteran defenseman standing and watching 3 goals within two feet of the net. Goalie played hot potato with the puck to give them a chance.
Sit a captain tomorrow? Switch the lines completely up? Pull closer? Play Michel?
I want to see something tomorrow to show that tonight was unacceptable.
also this could 100% be an emotional post haha

last part. Completely dominated the game. Almost every college team does this. Either they come out and stomp them/show they’re the better team tomorrow as they should or they fold. They fold and yeah then all hell comes out.

What is he talking about? The old guys were brutal tonight. Including his super senior captain and goaltender.
That was miserable

Maybe he hasn't seen the 2nd goal where brodzinski spectated the goal
Really disappointing to see such an inept power play and the team still giving up 3rd period leads at this point in the season. I'd have no issues seeing Airey start tomorrow.

I’m still too angry and disappointed to fully wrap my head around that performance. I hope the boys get a good night sleep, come out tomorrow and play with passion and anger.
I’m not sure whether I should drink the pain away or just go to bed.
Moore scored one of the only two goals, unless he means the young Dmen (and honestly the older ones weren’t any better). I thought Close was fine but that one rebound he lost wasn’t great. Definitely don’t blame him for the loss when it seemed like Augustine barely had to work.
The powerplay was embarassing, I think they finally set one up on the fifth one and got a couple shots from the blue line.

I know Brodzinski can put the puck in the net, but the Nelson line has been driving me nuts this year. The farm kid is just a puck watcher for half of every shift.
Close was not good tonight and he's struggling this season. The rebounds and failure to freeze pucks is killing them. He loses so many battles in the crease...Q was 3 for 3 last April and State got a couple tonight. He has to be better.
I have a couple of friends whose kids played on the team. They both are negative on this team and have been all season.

if that doesn’t sound like every Minnesota sports fan ever.
They’re better than they’ve played but not as good as last year yet still every bit a player to win a title. First 2 tonight were solid road hockey periods. They are capable of much more. Win tomorrow and they’ll be fine. This was a top ten team on the road and they looked by far the better team most of the night
I had this opinion for almost two years now. If Justin Close doesn't control his rebounds the Gophers can lose to anybody. The Gophers have never been very good in front of their own net. The Gophers seem to give up WAY too many greasy goals. With that said, they need to win tomorrow and get back off the pairwise bubble.

Well, they're big time hockey people, not average fans, but I would agree that Minnesota played a couple of good road periods tonight; however, it's common for them this season to blow games they should win and Close is not saving them.
