One can hope. I do enjoy hearing it. />I bet Bob wishes his team could keep playing with no time off, these guys have it going.
Very true and I bet coach complains about it again too. ?
I can see how some people call him a whiner (he certainly has a bite of that in him) but I like that he is willing to tell you what he is thinking.
Have girlfriends always been included in Senior night? Siblings yes, even the occasional grandparent, but I don’t remember girlfriends.
Note: Due to inflation dirty deeds will no longer be done dirt cheap.
I hope Bob stays away from mentioning the week off. Don't put any seeds into the players' heads that the week off can be problematic. Just prepare and get it done no excuses.
On the radio pregame, Bob basically said Close would be coming back.Ugh they just celebrated Close on Senior day. He is gone. Boo I want Close back. They said he is going to graduate in May from the Carlson School of Management so moving on makes sense. Thank you Closer!!!

Wow.. that’s good news! Barto transfer out? I guess we will see

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lacombe looked fine walking across the ice for senior night. Definitely seems like good news.
Brought the kid to the game tonight. He’s four. So naturally I only saw the 4th and 5th goals. Still a blast, though. Given his age and the global events that occurred at the time, he’s just blown away by being around so many people. Not to mention seeing the team he cheers for with dad on the TV in person. Fun memories.
Wow! Pride on ice is really back, and the fans are back! Great and hoping this team peaks with a national championship in Tampa!
Just WOW sums it up.
I was really impressed with Fish tonight. Just a steady defenseman. Doesñ't seem to panic, when he has the puck.

Did he get his game certificate?

He did not, because I wasn’t aware that’s a thing. D’oh.
Even after the Gophers were down 0-2 I was confident they’d win. It’s been too long and I am glad they’re ripping’.
After each game I find I can’t wait for the next. It’s going to be a long two weeks.
This. Team. It’s our damn year.
The Gophers end up winning the Big Ten by 19 points (more than 6 games). Even if second place Michigan and Wisconsin combined their conference points together the Gophers would still have more.
As it turns out the Gophers got the winning points in the 8-0 win vs. Michigan State a month ago.
So I am watching the DVR of the game and just saw the majors...wtf were Snuggy and Knies thinking? Just two boneheaded hits that were completely unnecessary. I get that Snuggy was probably still a bit mad about the missed crosscheck earlier to the head but that was about the easiest 5 to call of all time until Knies said hold my beer. There was no need for any of that and honestly I hope Bob ripped them a new one for it.
Now I am sure someone will say "oh X player turned into it' or "the ref didn't need to call a 5" but don't even start that BS with me. This isn't the NHL this is college and the refs should always err on the side of player safety. What Snuggy did could have seriously injured the Buckeye player and what Knies did (at least from all the replays we could see) was textbook contact to the head. We would be throwing a fit if the shoes were on the other foot and rightfully so. And beyond the dangerous nature it hurt the team at the time. (obviously not in the end 😉 ) The Gophers were rolling all over tOSU outside of their PP and you gave them momentum and a goal. Could have been even worse than that if Nelson and PKers werent crushing out there. (Nelson was a beast!!)
Now on to the 2nd...I wonder how this is gonna go 😉
From all I heard, the two majors were deserved, and stupid moves. It was unreal, and I bet tBob lit into them between periods.
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
I know Knies (and I’m assuming Snuggy too) apologized to his team and owned up to the dumb hit. They know they can’t do that stuff in the playoffs. Call it a lesson.
Feeling pretty optimistic with the way our special teams are playing and how dominant we’ve been in Fri night games recently
Very good weekends for Faber and Koster.
I’d be interested to see our FO numbers. We were killing it early in the season but it feels like Nelson has dropped off.

I love that we have one of the greatest lines in the history of Gopher hockey and our main concern is that maybe they should dial down the physical play a notch…. ?
Imagine how many points Cooley would have if he played hockey instead of Globetrotters-on-ice?

Good. Dumb plays will happen, own up to it and move on. I respect that. (I honestly hope they apologized to the Buckeye players to in the spirit of sportsmanship)
Of course he then scored in the 2nd so that helps as well 😉
I fully admit, I am not a hockey aficionado, I have only been watching since my frosh year at the U (1998) and never watched other teams as much as I watch us so my reference is somewhat limited but...our top line is the best line I have seen in my fandom. I have seen players that are better, I have seen combos that might click on a similar or even better level for a time but I have not seen anything quite like this. They put the fear of god in teams and no amount of scheming really seems to ever slow them down. They all just have such complimentary skills and abilities and they always seem to know exactly where they all are on the ice at all times. It is just crazy. The fact that 2 of them are freshmen and the other is a sophomore and they are all from different states is just astounding. They remind me of some HS teams that make State and have 1 line that has been playing together since they were Mites so they dominate (like Greenway with Guyer and Sertich) it is a joy to watch!
Imagine how many points Cooley would have if he played hockey instead of Globetrotters-on-ice?
Cooley plays chippy but I’m fine with it. He’s gonna be amazing in the NHL but he really can be better. He’s brilliant but too many turnovers. If he gets a bit better at the good plays and cuts out the obviously not achievable plays he’ll kill it.
The only problem I have from this weekend is that it’s becoming very obvious that no teams can skate with us and the only way to beat us is to muck it up and clutch and grab. We’ve seen this movie before ie a skilled St.Cloud team beating us with it.

I’m hoping, and it seems to be showing this year, that this team understands that and thrives on it. Teams get chippy or extra physical, especially with the lead, with this group and they just come out and step on their throat. OSU tried it tonight (and prior), ND tried it, PSU tried to do it, Michigan tried it in the series there. This group has an extra gear and an air of calm about them you don’t commonly see. One banner is down and it has all the makings of 2 more
Watching this highlights replay and the first play that stood out was the backhanded pass with precision and power from Snuggy to Cooley at 0:18. Even though it didn't lead to a goal that's one of the more impressive passes I've seen in a long time.
Another impressive thing is their decision making when decided whether or not to pass or shoot. I'd also be surprised if there's a been a team with a better Sh% in recent years.
Found it from CHN:
- 2023 12.3% so far
- 2022 11.3%
- 2021 11.7%
- 2020 9.8%
- 2019 11.3%
- 2018 8.9%
- 2017 11.1%
- 2016 10.3%
I stopped there. It's possible that 12.3% will drop once the playoffs start but that's an impressive start.
3rd series in a row that I think Lamb could have had multiple goals. The dam is gonna break at some point, whether that’s in playoffs or next year.

I don’t think he was talking about being chippy (the Globetrotters weren’t too chippy ?). For me, he periodically tries to do a 1 on 5 break. It doesn’t work out too well.
I’ve been in awe of Cooley the last month or so. He is the real deal.

Except these weren't the result of physical play. Both were cheap shots that we'd roast other teams for taking. Hopefully both of them learned their lesson.
After we tied it, it was the loudest it has been in the building in years. Couldn't hear Jamie announce who scored the 1st goal it was that loud. I can see why Bob wants to keep playing, but hopefully the rest will allow them to gat back the guys who are dinged up.
Have to give the student section props for coming out in force most of the year. Hopefully that continues.
Now a couple of minor annoyance issues for me--
1. There are a couple of people in the band that yells out "Ice is slippery" every time someone falls. It is funny the first 5 times, but it gets old. They also yell out when there is a stick on the ice "Ice is sticky" and a couple of other dumb ones.
2. As discussed here numerous times, the "F" Ohio (or any other team) is also bush league. Maybe try "Michigan rejects" or something else. Luckily last night I think they only broke the "F" Ohio out once or twice. I know they don't have any real direction, so I guess we should be glad that they are there.
I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.
Player loses his glove… “they’re a hand on the ice”.
Keep your stick on the ice...

I wouldn’t call either hit a cheap shot. I would call both “physical” plays. They both got a little too free with the hitting.

They were cheap shots and beyond stupid. Snuggy skated like 3 strides before his shot and Knies nailed the dude in the head for no reason. That is not just physical play I don't care who they play for. If a UND player did that you wouldn't be calling it "physical play".
Some fun with individual frames of the Cooley goal last night.

Thanks, very cool, although I think I’d need some Dramamine if I watched it for an extended period ?
I’ll post here as there’s more eyes…what’s the email of the person or Dept in charge of game promos? Is it general marketing in the UofM Athletic. Dept or is it the hockey Dept?
Last nights “special gift” for STH was a slap in the face. A poster? Not even a full size poster, but one barely bigger than a bumper sticker. But even worse, how they treated the handout. We had to line up, they literally checked your name on a computer and then you were handed that? Big whoop de doo. What a joke. With all the secure measures making sure only STH got the gift you’d think it’s be something nice. Considering you can walk over to the promo table behind sec 1-2 and get a GD free poster anytime you want, last nights reward for steady paying fans was pathetic.
Note: Due to inflation dirty deeds will no longer be done dirt cheap.

I think you meant:
“Oh my gosh there’s a hand on the ice!”
Similarly a helmet…. “OMG there’s a head on the ice!”
If the goalie’s helmet comes off, (intentionally or not) that used to be “U-G-L-Y you ain’t got no alibi you ugly, whoo-whoo, you ugly!
Y-L-G-U backwards you are ugly too you ugly, whoo-whoo, you ugly!
Plus a few more verses…
Student section folks - of any of you are on here, I can give you a dozen more cheers we’d love to hear brought back!

I thought the effort was a bit lazy too. The posters could have at least been the size of the old team posters they used to give out, and in some type of device to protect them from getting destroyed during the game. I asked them to go get a bag or rubber band or something to at least roll it up as they had nothing.
I think STH should get a swag box at the end of the year that includes all the giveaways (so we don’t have to show up an hour and a half before the game to get stuff) or, have a separate line to get in and allow us in 30 minutes before the game too.
I would try fan relations:
or marketing: gsm@umn.edu
Heck, send it to both.
After Brodzinski went down early in the first period and Ohio st got a boarding call the chirping got going. I think that escalated to the Nies and Snuggerud penalties. Nies was to the head which is odd, he got a high sticking penalty after hitting an Ohio St player in the head earlier in first period. You’d think he wouldn’t go for the head but his major he clearly did. I was hoping they both wouldn’t be tossed. Lucky for us they didn’t.
Its a big line differentiator this year when Cooley, Nies, and Snuggerud are on the ice they are almost always in the offensive zone. Other lines it’s hard to watch the struggles to get down the ice. Cooley is really impressive, he needs to stay another year to develop ?

I agree. I couldn’t believe how lame the giveaway was. You could have set those “posters” out and people wouldn’t have taken them. I took one look at mine and left it.
I'm wondering how the refs decide not to toss a guy after calling a 5 minute on him?
@cowgirl I know we briefly talked about the "goody" box last night, but I would love if the U brought a few of us in and asked our input. I would be willing to come in a couple of hours before the game and have a round table to just throw out ideas. I know everything is "money" related as far as the giveaways, but they should incorporate a certain amount of money to "reward" those of us who continually support the program. My wife and I had a nice discussion at last years Frozen Four with the marketing guy ( e was the one at the head of the line handing out shirts last night) and he was receptive to some of our thoughts.

I am hoping Lamb follows essentially the same point scoring path that Brent Gates did. I think they are similar players in a lot of ways. As a freshman Gates scored 3 goals and had 4 assists, 7 points (let me double check that... yep) in 35 games played.
Brody is 2-3-5 in 33 games played.
Gates jumped to 14-7-21 as a sophomore, 12-14-26 as a junior, and 13-18-31 as a senior.
I hope to see that trajectory for Lamb, and based on the skill level he has shown I think it is very possible (even probable) as he climbs up the line charts and gets more ice time, including consistent first and second team power play time.

I copied it from the gophersports website…the marketing email link didn’t even work on their website but thankfully a friend gave me the gsm one. Wouldn’t surprise me if those are intentional tactics to dissuade folks from contacting them.
