If your forwards don't play an honest game, they make you pay.
Two shifts in the third were difference makers, thanks to the farm kid's muscle and Brodzinski's sniper shots. After that second goal, I could finally exhale.
I will have to watch it on TV, but from my vantage point, it appears that the blade of Cooley's stick hit the top of the glass and that caused the break. I think this is the fourth time that I have been in Mariucci and have seen the glass break.
they actually hit into the pane to the right of the one that shattered - I thought the same thing, maybe the stick or just the force from hitting the one next to it. Physics I suppose. ?
Didn’t Vegoe predict 5-6 goals a night this weekend on the podcast?
Hey the Vegas odds put the over under at 6.5 and 6... I'm surprised how much better PSU was at defending in zone than past Guy Gadowsky teams. Also didn't help the scoring that Minnesota refused to work the puck down low and keep it down low until later in the game tonight.
The PSU goalie also played crazy good. Took a bunch of very difficult shots from 7 min left in 2nd to middle of the 3rd with ease.

Did penalty box guy look shaken?? He probably had a flashback to when the glass shattered on him.
In all seriousness, i hope the woman who got hit in the head is ok.
Penn State did a great job of blocking shots. It wasn't a pretty win but we avoided the turn overs we made yesterday and as a result Penn State didn't get much offense going. It was a defensive game and then in the third period the Bryce shot took over.
The Big Ten is the best conference this year (see non conference records). Conference games are going to be a challenge but that is good it will prepare the team well for the playoffs. Games like tonight are huge for the team's development. It was a hard fought win.
And tBob had half of the forwards and half of the defencemen in as Freshman - the beginning of their preparation for the long haul . . . .
Kudos!
Not knowing what to do, they do what they know . . .
Knowing what to do, they sometime don't do it . . .
The 26th year of the Gopher Men's Hockey Profile got to be too much for this ol' codger to handle . . . what with all of the possible activity on the transfer portal . . . . So, I'm closing it down at the 25th year . . .
Some thoughts from the weekend :
1. PSU best skating team we have faced so far this year
2. We need to throw the puck on the net more (like PSU). Gophs had too many missed chances trying for the pretty or perfect play.
3. Reminder that experience matters. PSU senior laden team and we are talented but young.
4. Good to see Nelson, Nevers and Brodzynski line stay hot.
5. Our top line was impressive w the puck but need to score more goals.
Nevers has scored every weekend but Lindenwood
Close was outstanding last night. The penalty kill late in the third he looked exhausted, but nothing got by him.
Close was very good all weekend. Gave them a chance on Friday Thursday and was stellar yesterday.
If MN doesn't play the body they don't win.
Bob played the hot hand in the third, Brods scored, another line (Huglin's??) took the next shift then he threw Nelson's line right back out there.
I wonder if there was a flu bug or something, few players seemed off who had been very good to date. #2 was not as much a force as he normally is.
When he was a Freshman I thought, Nevers? There is a reason I'm in the stands.
Cooley is squeezing the life out of his stick. I hope he is able to find his comfort zone because....damn!......it will be fun when he does.

-- Glad the students showed up again last night. Thursday night they were a bit light.
-- When the Gophers win puck battles against the boards, good things happen.
-- Not sure what Guy was unhappy about after the 2nd, but he was unglued and yelling at the refs as they skated off.
-- Penn St was very good blocking shots and using their sticks to disrupt plays.
-- Parking and traffic aren't an issue when you get on campus at 2pm ?
-- The service of some of the bars on campus is just plain slow. Not enough help, and unless you get there early, good luck at eating or drinking. Plus, these places are not even close to being full compared to the crowds back in the early to mid 2000's, so being overly crowded is not the issue. I guess we need to really lower our expectations.

I didn’t mean to call you out, it was more of a, “this is a surprisingly more defensive committed PSU team than the experts were expecting”
I'd bet Cooley finds it after holiday break and starts to pour em in

- When he gets back to the bench after missing on a shot, his teammates are seemingly offering condolences. I'm glad they're supporting him, but I hope he isn't pouting. The stuff he does that supports his linemates is just as important as scoring goals.
A lot of young superstars learn the hard way that when they play against an older team full of upperclassmen, there are no gimmes.
I’m not worried about Cooley at all. If anything, a slow first half could mean he stays for a second year?

Was that the one where Brannon McManus got checked through the glass by Notre Dame's Jake Pivonka a few years ago? I remember joking that Pivonka must have thought McManus should serve a penalty.

You’re just figuring this out? We should all be doing this any time we eat out. I thought a lot of peoples expectations for service were stupidly high before Covid…now…?…appreciate good service but don’t expect better than average.

I agree that people need to be more understanding when out to eat. My expectations have not changed at all, because I worked in retail management in my past life and my wife still does, we get all of the difficulties the businesses are going through now. When we go out, we don't expect 5 star service, but expect "good" service, and we make sure to over tip for excellent service and make sure we continue to support the businesses and the staff that provide such. We were at a place on campus last week. There were 7 customers in the bar, 3 sitting at the bar and 2 tables of 2 each including us. After our first drinks, we sat there for over 30 minutes empty and finally went up to the bar and paid our tab and left. The server/bartender had time to do shots with the 3 people at the bar, walked by our table numerous times while our glasses were empty. For us, that was unacceptable and poor service. We were also at a different place where it was packed, they were clearly short handed and overwhelmed and it also took 30 minutes for refills. That was more acceptable and we were understanding to that situation. That said, we now know what to expect at these places on campus and plan the amount of time we need to spend at these places for our meals.

We often pregame at Sturbs. We have learned to buy two or three drinks at a time, and food right away if we want it before game time as once it gets busy in there it can be an hour before a server comes by. They were surprisingly better staffed last Saturday but usually they seem woefully unaware that the place will be packed before a hockey game.
Did the ice seem to be not great last week? It just seemed that there were more players falling and more bouncing pucks than normal. I know the temps/humidity was above normal earlier in the week and maybe that played into it.

After the nut punch the service industry took over the last two years I just try to approach to going out with a little grace. Most every place just can't get enough help or have their help last for more than a month. I would put that partly on the fact that customers just don't approach their night out with a little grace. My wife puts up with more than enough crap during the weekend when she works as a waitress.
