I commend you for being so polite. The PK is a total mess and the PP needs some tweaking. We also cannot take a penalty from a captain/senior during a 5Min PP. We have been outplayed start to finish. Argue if you wish. This is NOT a team that will win anything if they cannot figure out how to play against teams that clog up the neutral zone. Our breakout was unable to shake Ohio State and that is a major problem in my opinion. We have the advantage in skill, depth, defense but cannot score? There are underlying issues here that our talent has been able to hide. Blame the goalie if you want (I agree on at least one) but that isn't really what happened tonight in my opinion. It is not the travel, it is not the short bench. Figure it out and come back tomorrow
they looked slow and sluggish all night with nothing looking tape to tape. Add that to giving up an early goal that’s a B threat and a second goal that’s rough and it’s a mountain to climb in what will be a low chance game (wildly different story if Snuggy doesn’t slow play a 2-0 and shoots rather than passes or lamb scores on his 1-0 with Eberly, but their guy was definitely the better goalie tonight).
To me it’s not that we lost this one (OSU is a good team who plays the old Kato/Quinny style and will make the NCAA tournament) but it’s the no show by multiple guys and general sloppiness. Unsure if guys missed practices this week or what but the effort was not at all pleasing. They will have to win at least one like this in the postseason with a team that only has a goal of limiting grade As and it’s the second time they’ve lost to one of them (BSU the other). Hoping for better tomorrow as a sweep and 4 straight B10 losses is not the ticket to a 1-2 seed
This game....MN did not bring its A game. Or its B. Barely its C.
month of January is the last time we better see that level of play. unacceptable and you hope the older guys know it. Team has too many veterans for that and doesn’t mean they can’t win a title having had this game, but this team also doesn’t have the margin for play like this as there’s no guy like a Cooley, Leonard, Celebrini, etc., who can rescue you from the doldrums with a drop of a hat
I know some hockey people believe that Nevers has a high hockey IQ and thinks the game, but personally I don't see him contributing much, save perhaps for the PK, which is nothing to brag about.
There are games like this every season. Denver looked unbeatable for a while and then struggled to tie a club team. The Gophers stunk up the joint tonight, but the weekend is only a failure if they lose tomorrow.
They had a tough weekend against State and then beat up on a bunch of patsies from Erie, PA. Big deal. Now back to reality, they got their doors blown off in Columbus. There was only one team out there that looked like they belong in the top 5. Unfortunately, it was the one nobody came to watch.

Nevers has never had the speed and looked even slower tonight. Hoping it’s just the first game back and he was sick this week 🤞🏻
DU has lost 5 of 8 including being swept by ASU at home. They were also swept handily at UND in January last year. No reason this type of game precludes you from winning it all, but you hope it triggers some soul searching a bit about what they want for the rest of their year. After that sweep at UND last year, DU went 16-2. Hoping the same type of light bulb goes on for this team that certainly does not lack for talent at this level up and down the lineup
it’s absolutely a 5 in todays game. And of course we go and take a dumbass penalty after
Between that penalty and Nevers penalty on the extended PP it became obvious that this team wasn’t gonna win this game, just too many boneheaded mistakes to overcome against a good defensive team with a good goalie. Airey could’ve been better but the team scored one goal all night and shot themselves in the foot often. Hopefully we see a better effort tomorrow, the team is certainly capable of it.
gophers getting blown out yesterday was a wake up call to them that even though they have a good record they have won a lot of games in ugly performances
That was an overall ugly team performance. Snuggy was silenced by OSU and the rest of the scorers were largely absent on the ice. You do have to give ISU the credit they deserve for having a good defensive structure and clogging up the lanes.
Tonight will determine whether this team is made of the right stuff to come back from this or if they need to figure out a different way to move forward.
It happens as much as we wish it wouldn't. Merrimack just beat BC. Good teams have stinkers.
For example, yes it's Junior C in Canuckistan, but, a team that was 62 out of 63 teams with a 2-22-1 record just beat the 28-0-0 First place team while only having 14 skaters (looks like the goalie played out of his mind... shots were 70-18 in favor of the losing team)
Having said that, the Gophers absolutely have to come out way stronger tonight (and the rest of the year) if they plan on getting anywhere.
I'm glad Souliere is starting tonight. I think Airey will be a good goalie down the road, but I think Souliere is better at the present time. I see a 5-3 Gophers win tonight.
tBob did say on the radio postgame that he was not exactly impressed with the team's energy level not only during the game, but throughout the day too. I don't know if it was illness or something else, but the thought crossed my mind that they just weren't comfortable being on the road after the long break. Now that yesterday's happened and spent another night in the hotel, let's see some fire and a nice rebound game.
