One other thing to note is that if there are too many teams from one conference (5 IIRC), then they don't need to avoid first round matchups for that conference. Although they may still try if it's possible.

I’m not saying that other teams don’t have good chemistry but this clip reminds me of something that this program has that no other program can replicate. The amount of just good, homegrown talent that this program has, has had, and will have is something truly to be proud of. Yes, in this day and age a lot of players from all over the country play with and against each other. We’ve seen the bond that a lot of the USNTDP players have. But to all grow up playing community based hockey with your buddies and against other teams all over the state and then to have that translate when you’re all at college together is something that we should all definitely be proud of. Of course I want more national championships. Of course I’ll take a Cooley, Knies, Haula, Vanek, etc. any day of the week. I am probably coming off as a total homer with all of the Gopher arrogance but it’s really cool to see year in year out our rosters full of Minnesota talent.
From the coaches show tonight--
Bob was off "recruiting", Killer filled in.
Wally must not have been told that they took the 2nd assist from Closer away. He mentioned it a couple of times.
Friday ND was given time and space, and Saturday they were not.
He talked about the Farm Kids game on Saturday. Liked his angry play.
Said on Saturday the 3rd forward played connected with the defense.
Killer watches every breakout from the weekend. Explains what other things he watches, including the forecheck.
Challenges the d to be more aggressive on the move to the smaller rink.
Killer is always a good listen. He explains things in much more detail than Bob does. Worth a listen if you have the chance.

By recruiting I hope he means down in Shattuck watching Mikey Berchild and Parker Trottier play, but that’s for a different thread…
I like killer too. Great for us X’s and O’s nerds.
I wish they could recognize and correct some of the issues they saw in the Friday game, during the game, rather than between games. For most of the season they seem to play better on Day 2 than Game 1. So they make good changes, but sometimes too late to save the Friday game. From the coaches show tonight--

With CC Sat/Mon counted as Fri/Sat respectively and Bemidji exhibition not counted
Friday: 10-5-1, 65.6%; 56 GF, 46 GA
Saturday: 9-3-4 68.7%; 53 GF, 33 GA
On the season, definitely lock things down far harder on our Saturdays, though overall the W/L/T not too changed in terms of percentages.
However, since New Year
Friday: 4-3, 21GF, 20GA
Saturday: 6-0-1, 28GF, 10(!) GA
Absolutely spot on when looking at it since the New Year. Clearly seem to be learning team's tendencies and shutting it down.
And "game 1" in the post-season is not something you can come back from if you muck it up, as in the NCAA R1 and FF SF.
With the Gophers winning tonight and Michigan losing the Gophers have now clinched home ice for the playoffs.
Gophers 37 points (2 games left)
Notre Dame 31 points (2 games left)
Michigan 28 points (4 games left)
Since Notre Dame plays at Michigan next weekend it is impossible for them both to catch the Gophers.
If Michigan gets 1 or 2 points, Notre Dame gets 5 or 4 points. The Gopher will have 3rd place locked up before playing the series against Michigan.
If Michigan gets 3 or 4 points, Notre Dame gets 3 or 2 points. The Gophers will need 1 point against Michigan to finish ahead of them.
If Michigan gets 5 or 6 points, Notre Dame gets 1 or 0 points. The Gophers will need 2 points against Michigan to finish ahead of them.
If Notre Dame gets all 6 points. The Gophers will need to get 1 point against Michigan to finish ahead of Notre Dame.
I think Notre Dame can't catch us even if they get all 6 against Michigan and we get no more right? Because the head to head will be tied and we would have the higher conference win percentage.
Unless this is wrong: http://www.playoffstatus.com/big-10-hockey/big-10-tiebreakers.html or I am misunderstanding it.
It's that "head-to-head win percentage" that gets Notre Dame the tiebreaker over the Gophers. Officially that should be:With the Gophers winning tonight and Michigan losing the Gophers have now clinched home ice for the playoffs.

"Seeding amongst tied teams shall be determined by the team with the best regular-season points percentage against the other tied team(s);"
With ND taking two in regulation, plus the OT pt, that gives them 7 to the Gophers 5
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
Gotcha, thank you. I thought that it might not care about the win being in OT just because it specifically calls out a shootout as a tie. But that makes sense, thank you!

Head to head isn’t tied they took 7/12 points and we took 5/12

Gophs up to 8 in the PWR. Big ten postseason title may even have the 4 seed in reach, especially if they manage to sweep Michigan. Need 3 pts to stay ahead of Michigan for BTT though at minimum.

Anyone have a guess if/when single game BT tourney tickets will go on sale? Right now you have to buy all the quarterfinals or the whole postseason.

The Gophers are three points ahead of Michigan so two points next weekend would mean Michigan would only gain two points (4 to 2) resulting in the Gophers finishing one point ahead.

long day at work. thank you for mathing correctly for me haah
It will be interesting where the Gophers land on TV next weekend. Will they simply be streamed, or on Fox9+? BTN and FS1 are full of events already. FS2 has B1G hockey on at 6pm on Friday and 3:30 pm on Saturday. You would think the Gophers would be one of those 2 games.

I would be surprised if they did 3:30 on Saturday considering the women's WCHA championship game is at Ridder at 2:00 but I guess you never know.
Pretty good deal on playoff tix especially for season ticket holders. $33 for 2, possibly hopefully not, 3 games and as of now you can basically sit anywhere in the building.
Good interview with Snuggy. It does appear that he has some sort of brace on his right wrist. Maybe he has been hurting a bit and that is why his scoring has been down as of late.

Can the Gophers still get a number one seed if they win the Big 10 tournament?
Unless the purple cows or Beavers win their tournament the Gophers could be the only team in the NCAA tournament this year. Its looking like St. Cloud will have to make it at least to the NCHC championship game. UMD would have to win the NCHC.
If the Gophers play their game I like their chances against anyone. It would be a big confidence booster if they can win the Big 10 tournament. Go Gophers!!!
I like our chances if we are the only team in the ncaa tournament! 😉
(I know you meant only Minnesota team but couldn’t resist). ☺️
I’m sure the stats geeks here can help out with the actual question!
just came across this. Do they make student sections like this anymore?

Yes the Gophers still have a chance of getting a #1 seed but it might take winning the Big Ten tournament and Denver losing two more games not counting tonight's loss.
The Gophers going 3-0 with wins over Penn State, Wisconsin, and Michigan State would result in a big boast to the Gophers RPI.
But Denver going 4-1 with a win over CC, 2 wins over Duluth, a win over St. Cloud, and a loss to North Dakota likely results in Denver #4 and the Gophers #5.
If Denver were to lose in the NCHC semifinal (as their only loss) to a team like St. Cloud, Western Michigan, or Omaha that might allow the Gophers to finish ahead of them if the Gophers win the Big Ten tournament especially if it includes wins over Wisconsin and Michigan State.
After having to see the disgusted mug of the PSU coach last night, I was wondering... Who has the more eminently punchable face - Gadowsky, or Naurato? It's a tough call, but in the end, I think it has to be Gadowsky...

The PSU coaches use the same locker room as the post game media scrum. Gadowsky looked a bit annoyed last night after the game answering Jess Myers questions. Nothing on Jess at all... Gadowsky just looked like he didn't want to be there at all. I am thinking they may try to make a quicker exit of that room tonight. Like going out the back exit like they did back in February to avoid any questions.

yeah gophers need to win out first and foremost. Whether it’s Wisconsin or Michigan will be irrelevant. Need Denver to lose at least 2 more games (if they lose tonight and only drop one in the quarters before winning the nchc, they’ll stay ahead). They’ll pass Michigan state in rpi by winning out. If they’re the 4 or 5 it’ll be the same end situation which will be with Denver either in Sioux Falls (if Omaha makes it) or Missouri.
Going to be some very odd pairwise scenarios with UMass and Omaha both possibly being in the field as 4 seeds and the possibility for many intra conference matchups at the 2/3

Gadowsky looks like he could be Knies father, does anyone else see the resemblence?
Good point on Omaha potentially sneaking in. If North Dakota wants to “host” in Sioux Falls, they need to bounce back tonight and beat Omaha in regulation.
Could anyone see Pino or Strobel leaving next year? The way I see it we are obviously losing 22, 24, and 81. I don't know about 77 but I'm sure someone here has some speculation. Ziemer, Hendrickson, and Pahlsson seem like they'll be in the lineup and idk about Falloon. Can't necessarily blame 13 or 27 for wanting to go somewhere else. (Maybe St. Thomas?)
I don’t think anyone has any clue on 77 returning or not. At least I haven’t seen anything.
I’d love for him to come back if he’s motivated and dialed in. At times he seems like he’s over all of it. Obviously I don’t know him at all, and he’s probably just a kid that doesn’t take stuff so seriously, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. 😊
Considering he’s way down the list in terms of prospects (had him as 27th for the Habs) I’d imagine he’s back. He’s too all over the place right now to be an NHLer

No idea. We can figure that out after we win the natty this spring 😉
I don't think it is a slam dunk that Snuggy leaves at the end of the season.
He has 32 points in 35 games and is a +6.
There are more than 50 guys in the country who are averaging a point a game and Snuggy isn't one of them.
There are 9 guys (5 forwards and 4 defensemen) on the Gophers who have a better +/-.
He is 19 years old. He will turn 20 in June.

agree it's probably become less of a 100% but still would heavily favor it. Think it more will pend if the Blues want him rather than him wanting to leave and forcing the Blues hand based on how the year has gone. He has a lot of defensive things he needs to work on but they need to add more scoring at the wing which could mean they want him to come in.
Yes he certainly will bring a great shot to the Blues when he makes the jump to the NHL and scoring goals is obviously important but if he is only able to be +6 on the Gophers what would make the Blues think he will be a + player for them as a 20 year old rookie?
I think he would grow a lot in becoming a more complete player if he stays one more year.
I hope Nelson gets some NHL interest after the season is over. He is so solid.

His great play on the smaller rink at Mariucci and his faceoff percentage makes me think he’ll do well.
