Disagree…How the refs didn’t give Cooley a Major & a game misconduct is beyond me, the hit was dirty & reckless & warranted an ejection Friday. He should have been able to play on Saturday, but since the refs screwed up the call Friday…the Big Ten reviewed it Saturday & suspended him as essentially as make up. If an opponent hit Cooley in exactly the same fashion, GPLers would be absolutely incensed! It’s all whose OX is being Gored.
Oh stop. If that is worthy of a suspension NoDak would be shorthanded every week. (As would about half the country) It was dumb, it should have been a two and that is it. And ask around I'm the guy who usually agrees with erring on the side of caution on plays like that. The play looks dangerous cause he lost his edge just like all the phantom holdings and slashes all weekend for either team. And I absolutely would not be upset if that happened to us that is cop out.
I'm watching Game 2 right now...Motzko was going to kill the ref when they allowed the goal with 7 guys on the ice. How that held up on review...
@bearpaw28 Bullshit. The hit was a normal in the course of the action play, nothing overtly "dirty". I agree with the 5 minute major, but that is only because of the result and it was a marginal 5 minute call at that.
@mlhouse lmao…when Snuggy or Cooley or Knies are on the other end of the exact same cheap hit…something tells me you’ll react differently ? ?
Michigan games are always fun. It's nice to watch 2 teams whose strategy isn't to just clog things up and wait for a break.
Am I the only person who has found this "new " site to be very slow loading? Last night during the game the site wasn't working at all.
No, have enjoyed the "new" site until last evening and even into this morning . . . wasn't able to get into chat until late and then unable to get back into the site after the win . . . was wondering whether or not others were having problems . . . .
Go Gophers!
Not knowing what to do, they do what they know . . .
Knowing what to do, they sometime don't do it . . .
The 26th year of the Gopher Men's Hockey Profile got to be too much for this ol' codger to handle . . . what with all of the possible activity on the transfer portal . . . . So, I'm closing it down at the 25th year . . .
The entire site was offline due to an issue with the host early in the morning until it looks like several hours after the game completed last night.
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?

So true!
I agree with Bearpaw that the Cooley hit was cheap and deserving of a suspension. I thought he should have been kicked out of the game. No reason to push a player from behind at full speed when you are at the goal line. Not smart at all. That hit was the definition of hits that need to be eliminated from the game.

i agree completely. Dangerous play.
Dirty, no.
Dangerous, probably yes.

Agreed. Call it dangerous and worthy of suspension, which I can see. But to call it “dirty” signifies intent to injure and that is a bridge too far. I don’t think there was any intent to injure.
I don’t necessarily equate “dirty” with intent to injure, but I do equate it to “cheap” “reckless” and “dangerous”. He F-cked up…period…but hopefully will learn from it and not repeat it. Hey, they still got the ?without Cooley in the lineup on Saturday & Bart had a strong series in goal.Dirty, no.
Dangerous, probably yes.

Well reasonable people can disagree reasonably.
For those arguing that the Cooley hit was/should have been a major. What penalty would you call?
It WAS called a major for cross-checking, but no game misconduct. Watching it live, I expected it to be called a check from behind or maybe boarding. For those arguing that the Cooley hit was/should have been a major. What penalty would you call?

It clearly wasn't a crosscheck. There's no way you can call a guy for boarding on a hit that happens in front of the net. I guess you could defend calling it from behind, but I personally wouldn't agree with that.
