People need to back the f up away from the ledge the team dropped from #1 to #2 pairwise we’re fine
Even if the defense was bad enough to give up 24 breakaways in a night. The Goaltender still needs to stop more than 75% of them.
I don’t think anyone is freaking out, just calling out some bad performances. I am still convinced the Gophers will be a 1 seed in the NCAA tournament.
Luckily the main chicken little guy is no longer on the board, so that will lower the number of Fire Bob posts.
I got it on Twitter.

I just went and took a look. Why do some "fans" think this team is going to go 34-0 every year? I hate to break it to them, but they are going to lose again this year, and maybe as soon as next weekend. It was a bad loss for sure, but I managed to get out of bed this morning without kicking the dog over it.
I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.

More talking about twitter. I don’t even know why I still use that app it’s a cesspool of crazies. You wouldn’t know we’re a top 2 team reading most of the comments on there.
Jess may be the worst post game interviewer. Needs to know when to try to be funny and when he asked Bob a question about adding ASU to the B1G, Bob walked off. Jess then mumbled that he was just having fun. Not the right time Jess.
What’s wrong with that question? tBob seems like a drama queen when it comes to questions from Jess. He’s a public employee making more than 99% of the public, you may have to answer questions you don’t like.
That said I didn’t see it so maybe the delivery was poor? There has to be some history between these 2 right? Maybe Bob isn’t used to being questioned by the media ever coming from St.Cloud?
Here are my thoughts on why their relationship is rocky. I'm not great at expressing my thoughts in writing, but will give it a shot. I will say this first, I appreciate the coverage Jess and The Rink Live provides. They are the only media outlet that travels to all the games, and they always have post game and mid week media availability on their social platforms. I read and watch all of it. The biggest issue I think with Jess is the way he asks questions. If you watch the weekly media availability, Vegoe will ask a questions about X's and O's or Bob's hockey philosophy and you can tell that Bob appreciates the question and will give a thoughtful answer. Jess never does that. For example he asked Bob last year about the trip to Austin and if they went to the Spam museum. That is just plain stupid. Another example was when Jess would ask about the goalies a couple of years ago. Instead of asking Bob if he has a plan for getting goalie X more games to continue that goalies growth, he stated it like goalie Y is struggling, are you considering a goalie change. That question puts Bob in the position of criticizing a player in the media. There is also the question where he asked Bob if Walker was suspended because he wasn't playing. Jup has video of that one. After 2 poor games, asking Bob if ASU would be a good fit as the 8th conference member probably wasn't the right time. Save that for the weekly scrum and maybe word it " After seeing their new building, the campus and the atmosphere in the building, what are your thoughts on ASU possibly joining the hockey conference?" I just think his delivery needs to improve, as he seems to be more about asking "fun" questions while he is laughing while asking it than getting real hockey info. It's one thing to ask Knies about going home, and his family hosting Thanksgiving and his favorite food for a story about Knies, but he should keep most of the questions for Bob about hockey.
All of that said, Bob also needs to be more tolerant to some of the questions that Jess asks since he is one of the few media outlets that allows access to us fans. There is definitely some friction there that is evident with every interaction that they have.
I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.
I guess we should be glad that beating the Gophers is a big deal again as it wasn't under the last few years of tDon.

Jess needs to just ask the question sometimes. Tries to make it about him. “Look at all this info I dug up on player X.”
That being said I really appreciate the work he does with The Rink Live

I didn't see the interview, but I can think of very few people that do more for bringing attention to college hockey than Jess. Wally and Frank also made light of things during their interview, and I guess people didn't have a problem with that.

No doubt about it… but I think it’s gotten to a point where even if he does ask a decent question (not very often), Bob is so annoyed that he doesn’t want to give a good answer
Unfortunately I wasn’t able to watch the game last night but it sounds like the team laid a giant egg. I’m not freaking out or anything yet but I will say, the concerning thing, or rather the frustrating thing is we didn’t play great Friday night but we escaped with the win. Bob talked about how we’ll be better and you would hope the team would come out with a point to prove and bring the hammer down. But they didn’t. That’s two swings in a row now of having a very solid weekend (Notre Dame and Michigan) followed by a disappointing split (PSU and ASU). Disappointing in the way we lost and the effort put in. I’m not going to worry about the emotional let down against OSU after the North Dakota weekend but the examples I already listed are annoying. I’m hoping that this team continues to learn from their mistakes and grows into the team we all know they can be. Next weekend will be tough. We need a split. Then we’ll be going up against a pissed off, nothing-left-to-lose Wisconsin. Who, while awful, will still be up for that series and out for blood. I know they’re a dumpster fire but you can never afford to overlook a rival. If we split at Michigan State and sweep Wisconsin at home I’ll be happy. Let the guys recharge over Christmas break. Hopefully our WJC guys have a good tournament and stay healthy. Then get hot in the second half. Bob’s teams always seem to grow into the season so I’m not concerned about this team yet. But they need to find a way to win even when things aren’t always going their way.
Jess can't "read the room"... pure and simple.
Yes, but Bob needs to also accept he’s a public figure and not get so worked up when he gets questions he doesn’t like. At this point Jess could ask the best question ever asked in the history of sports and Bob probably wouldn’t answer it unless someone else asked it immediately after Jess.
I would say that Jess does a great job at getting Gopher content but I will agree with most that his delivery needs some work. I hate to say it but Jess could take some notes from Schlossman on how to cover a team and cultivate a relationship with the program you are covering. Schlossman may cover a horrible team but I do think that he is probably tops of the game at covering hockey of that program and college hockey overall. Jess it seems like is trying to generate clicks...I don't won't clicks or fluff...just report what you see and get as much information from within the program without hurting your inside sources.
I am the official Iowa Hawkeye football fan of GPL!

Jess does it so often that Bob has given up on giving him the benefit of the doubt. I mean really Jess? You are asking about the other team coming to the big ten right after a bad OT loss? You read the room wrong yet again Jess? I would be sick of that BS too.

bummer. I had not watched yet.
F4Champs said it best. There’s a tactful way to ask certain questions, and someone mentioned it previously that Jes seems to ask too many “friend” type questions vs about the game. But agreed that I still very much appreciate what he does and as a fan enjoy access to the post game interviews.
As far as being a part of the big ten, I would not complain about a trip to AZ every year, except for the part about going broke trying to go every year. It’s amazing down here. Although I think I’m glad my first trip was over a holiday with less students everywhere at the bars.
great trip. Enjoying a couple more margaritas by the pool before we pack up. If the damn bucs game didn’t go to OT coulda had the Wild on the big screen on the rooftop. Although we’ll have to find a couple more breweries to visit since our flight isn’t until 1am. ??
It’s too expensive to go to AZ from MN. We flew to Vegas for the bowl game last year so while it’d be a great road trip, we just wouldn’t do it for the regular season.

Gotta slightly disagree with you there. The team came out and played much much better than Friday. They played 50 or so minutes of pretty good hockey. They had some defensive lapses that just can’t happen. I won’t defend the team for that, but I do think they heard Bob’s message and played a better game although the score looks much worse.
Two lines stuck out Saturday watching them live: the hot shot line (89-92-81) was flat out dominant. The other line was actually the Strobel-Mittelstadt-Lamb line. They were hard on pucks and played their game well all night.
I’ve been the biggest Pino supporter since day 1 (and I still think people will see what I’m talking about when he gets going) but I think 19 and 27 have just been too damn valuable to keep out of the lineup.
PWR is certainly dominated by the RPI, that's for sure, but the way ties are dealt with now MIGHT make the other two slightly more relevant. I'm not sure yet, but with less than a full win in the RPI, that will pull ASU's RPI down slightly from that game, but getting a full win in the other two components bumps those up to offset.… but an actual loss for the H2H/COp components on PWRWoof. That’s a bad loss.
luckily only 45% (Or 55 depending on how you count) of a bad loss
They changed it to 67%/33% this year.
I know that you know this, but the H2H and COp hardly come into play at all anymore.
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
Have you personally told him this? I assume you are friendly considering he was on the podcast two weeks ago.
He is not going to listen to someone who is not a “writer”… Too be honest, it’s a personality trait with him. Not gonna dive in to that.

They played better in many aspects, but the defensive lapses they had were more than a few and in Frank’s words of the “egregious” variety. Was maybe the worst performance I have seen from our defensive corps and goaltender all season.
Bob has talked a lot about getting the guys to understand that you have to play sound defensively and that will lead to offense. I don’t think they played sound defensively for multiple stretches of Saturday’s game.
Better to learn these lessons now than in March, but it is frustrating to see a team that is so talented make so many sloppy mistakes.
Hopefully they play much cleaner next weekend because this Michigan State team is talented enough to sweep the Gophers.
"The messaging tonight was all about puck management. If you don't manage the puck against them, their transition game is so good and so crisp and so quick that you're on your heels before you can blink," said ASU coach Greg Powers, who is now 1-7-0 lifetime vs. Minnesota. "Especially that top line. It's the best line we've played against in college hockey. They're that good."
But AZ still found a way to win. Gives me a headache just thinking about it.

Fair enough! I didn’t get to watch the game last night. So I’m going off of the comments. Which is admittedly very dangerous.
It was a crazy game to be at. We dominated for stretches but did not have puck luck and asu never let up. They capitalized on our mistakes. We had trouble being cohesive for stretches of the game. Not sure what excuse we have for that. But sounds like they were going to practice today and hope they figure it out.
Credit ASU they scored on every single defensive lapse let up by the Gophers. We probably had about 6 defensive breakdowns and they scored on all 6
This is a loss to learn from. Obviously the whole team needs to be better defensively. Anytime 3 goals are given up in one period, it would be nice to see a fresh goalie. Some adjustments need to be made before next weekend. They played hard, there were just a few to many turnovers. Arizona is pretty good this year! We're still planning on attending the Frozen Four. I have a feeling the second half of the season will be much better and the Gophers will improve every week. Go Gophers!
I agree, for me it felt like Game 2 vs North Dakota. Bottom line is ASU's goalie played better than Close and add in a little puck luck going against us results in another close loss.It was a crazy game to be at. PS: Greg Powers was very complimentary of the Gophers on local tv/radio, but he did say something I suspected. "To beat the Gophers you need to dominate the blue paint" As talented as our defense is, we do lose a lot battles in front of our net.

Well said. That they did. I really liked their top line, and their goaltender was very good.

Wonder what our tune would be if Knies had stuck one in on that early drive in OT.
Ugh this one just stings.

I thought the same thing last night. We’d probably be all fat and happy and ignore all the defensive woes.
I'm less worked up over the loss than I am with the team giving up 6 freakin' goals. That is unacceptable and in most cases results in a loss.
Sometimes, I think Minnesota has the attitude that they'll just play offense and outscore their opponents. Defense wins hockey games, even against inferior opponents.
I also was thinking had the game started an hour sooner the Gophers may have won. Maybe Close was still feeling a bit sick. In any case win or lose now they have some things to improve on defensively. Hopefully they will play much better and get a sweep next weekend.
He can be a net good for college hockey coverage even if he asks questions in a way that make Larry David seem socially intelligent by comparison. I don’t have anything against the guy but it’s not surprising to see why Bob might be annoyed by some of these questions and expresses it that way. I’d rather see that relationship improve and see an end to it, I acknowledge Bob isn’t perfect, but no other reporter seems to draw this kind of reaction.? that guy’s interview questions are performance artJess may be the worst post game interviewer. Is it time to get Staudacher in there? I know, I know, he’s not as talented offensively but if you want a work horse with loads of grit, a guy who will block shots and clear guys out from in front of our net, he’s your guy. Hell, give Fish a shot. I’m serious. We have enough offensive talent on our back end that putting in Staudacher and possibly even Fish I don’t think would detract from from the offensive capabilities of our blue line. Especially if you paired them with the right D corps partner. Speaking of which, is it time to start to find more consistent D corps pairings? Obviously the coaches know 1,000 more about hockey than I do. But after a weekend like this one, maybe those questions need to start being asked.
Season's over.
Season's over.
Good run.
i would argue one of the most difficult schedules in college hockey thus far. We’ve learned a lot. Would be a great second half.
I assume they’re red shirting those guys, though I could be wrong in that assumption. Either way I’d rather get the new guys experience (and bring those guys back next year when we have a ton of turnover) and I think these guys will be fine if they just play a bit smarter. Is it time to get Staudacher in there? I think Bob’s playing the long game with the young guys back there. It’ll pay dividends in March and April and obviously years to come.
