Gophers are 4-0 vs Sparty this year outscoring them 25-6
I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.
Blow em out again.
Slow first period finds the teams tied 1-1 after 1. St. Cyr stands on his head to keep it 2-1 Gophers after 2. Dam bursts in the third. 5-1 final.
Sparty has won two straight playoff games since I made the response below. Time for the Gophers to make sure it doesn't go to three straight.
Michigan State: 0-14 in the BIG Playoffs
2014: 0-1 (lost in OT to Ohio State)
2015: 0-1
2016: 0-1 (lost in OT to Ohio State)
2017: 0-1
2018: 0-2 (lost Game 2 in OT to Ohio State)
2019: 0-2
2020: 0-2
2021: 0-1 (lose in OT to Minnesota)
2022: 0-2
2023: 0-1 (Game 2 tomorrow night)
So they should be called the Michigan State Twins? ?
Watched all 8 of the playin round games and all higher seeds had struggles with Michigan finally winning in two games, Ohio State finally winning in three games, but Notre Dame losing in two out of three games.
Ohio State will give Michigan a run for there money but I think Michigan will win.
Michigan State is not the same team that the Gophers have previously seen and will put up a battle. I'm leary of the late start and the bye ( even with the trip to Rochester ).
Go Gophers!
Not knowing what to do, they do what they know . . .

I'm happy we got the Spartans (Notre Dame games bore me). I'm expecting a slow start having the week off and playing a team we've dominated all season. Once the Gophers shake off the rust I see us winning 5-2
Get. Jaxon. Nelson. Going.
Minnesota vs. Michigan State stats:
Minnesota leads the head-to-head 133-50-16.
Minnesota is 30-7-4 vs. MSU since the start of the BIG.
Minnesota is 11-8 and MSU is 2-14 in BIG post season play.
Minnesota is on a 13 game win streak vs. MSU. Last lost 2/8/20, 4-2 @ 3M Arena
Minnesota is 4-0 and has outscored MSU 25-6 this season.
This game separates the championship teams from wannabe championship teams. The Gophers are hands down the better team and needs to start putting that in opponents minds. Step on the gas and make a statement... if you're going to play us and be at our level you better bring your "A" game and the hockey gods.
Keep your stick on the ice...
Hopefully this team can start the game strong and get a lead, the last time they had a week off was pretty brutal so hopefully they don’t repeat that.
It's why I think this is the best matchup we could have gotten out of the 4 potential opponents this weekend. Certainly Notre Dame or PSU could have prepared us more for the NCAA Tournament, but as we all know, the big weakness we've had all season is not being fresh coming off a break, so I'd rather face a team that has no business being on the same rink as us just so we don't have next weekend off.
Let's take care of business this weekend and worry about a warmup to the regionals next weekend.

Just want to see them play the brand of hockey they’ve been playing all season. Nothing cute or uncharacteristic just smart, tough gopher hockey - if they do that, they’ll get past sparty.
Gophers big favorites on Saturday as expected
From Bob's radio show--
Pino is back from injury. Will know more on LaCombe and Chesley on Weds/Thurs. Didn't say they are out for sure, so that is a good sign.

Both were absent from the scrimmage on Saturday. Chesley was a limited participant at Friday's practice with LaCombe not present. I'd say Chesley has a better chance of returning this week than LaCombe. But, would just want both healthy for the end of the month.
I’d rather they sit out Michigan State and be fully prepared for the championship game. Don’t wanna risk anything.
Not sure I'd rather they sat out, but certainly don't want to rush them back if they're not ready.I’d rather they sit out Michigan State and be fully prepared for the championship game. Don’t wanna risk anything.
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
Students will be on spring break but there’ll probably still be a full student section like last year.
FWIW-- Last year they had 6800 tickets sold for the semi final game.
When I checked this morning, there were a lot of tickets left. When I just checked now, they only show tickets available on the non Zamboni end. I have a feeling there is glitch on the website.

I think this a great game to see what frame of mind the Gopher team is in. On paper they are the better team. So, do they play like they should and smoke them? Do they play like they have a mission to crush their opponent and all other teams that now get in their way to a hopeful Championship? Or, do they just play good enough to move on? I want to see that hunger like they have shown most of this fantastic year.
So I noticed face for this game (in my zone) is $20 + $2 fee, and for next weekend $30 + $3 fee.
That would make the fees for the first round 3 x $10 tickets $5, and if I recall correctly we paid $90 for the three weekend package.
We were not refunded the extra fees for the first round.
So STH not only did not get a discount to purchase in advance, we got hosed on the weekend we didn’t play by not getting all of what we paid back, so we essentially lost $. (Assuming I did maths correctly).
Other than being guaranteed your own seat, there is no advantage to purchase the package in advance.
Way to go Big Ten/UMN.
Extra fees are so stupid seeing as tickets are digital and humans aren’t even involved in purchasing them anymore so it’s cheaper and easier!! ?♀️
So the Gophers win the regular season title, get to host league playoffs, why is it split to 2 weeks quarterfinals then final championship, why not have it all in 1 location in 1 weekend?
Aloha!

Judging by Motzko’s comments on the radio show it might be next year. He said changes from the coaches would be nearly unanimous.

Non season ticket holders paid 95 +8 for fees for 103 total. You did not lose money.....
Faber in isolation per Jess and he hopes to play this weekend....
Freshman defenseman Ryan Chesley was a full participant in the Gophers’ most recent practice, and there is optimism he can return from the upper body injury that has kept the Washington Capitals’ draft pick out of the lineup since he was hurt in a Feb. 11 loss at Wisconsin.
Another defenseman, senior Jackson LaCombe, practiced this week after missing the Gophers last series with a lower body injury. Motzko said LaCombe remains day-to-day. Those are the bits of good news. But there was also a notable absence at practice among the defensive corps.
Gophers’ captain Brock Faber has been isolated from the team all week due to an illness, Motzko said, and the status of the Big Ten defensive player of the year finalist is unknown for this weekend.

Faber have Covid?
The word Covid isn't used in the story, but... hopefully it is just the crud that went around earlier.

COVID is definitely still out there though. I just tested positive tonight. Cross your fingers.

The 1-9 or the crud, doesn't matter. I agree with @frozen4champs, don't want that getting to the team. What if that 24 hr crud comes right before a game?
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
My wife and I just had the 24 hr crud...slept most of a day away and felt normal the next day. No matter what Faber has you don't blame them for keeping him away from the team what it may be.
I am the official Iowa Hawkeye football fan of GPL!
My wife just got over a week-long bug. It looked awful. On day two her sleep number bed tracked her restful sleep at 16 hours! She was so miserable she sat in the dark for days and didn't even turn on the TV. Lets hope he has your 24 hour thing and it doesn't spread.
On a brighter note, only a limited number of tickets left for tomorrow’s game! All down at the end opposite of the zamboni doors. I remember the semi final against Penn State last year being a little over half full but the crowd was very much loud, lively, and into the game. When Walker scored the game winner the place went nuts.
I caught an adult case of Hand Foot Mouth Disease last week and am still on the mend. The blisters aren't really painful anymore, but I wouldn't wish this on anyone. Throat felt like I was swallowing glass for 4 days, blisters all over that stung, like I'd put gloves on when doing laundry and making food so as to not contaminate things, like sticking hands into Razor blades.

I had this about 15 years ago. Your descriptions are not wrong.
It's a good way to lose fifteen pounds, if you need to shed a little weight. You can only pack so many calories in through a straw.

It was a steady diet of sugar free jello and Pudding for a while and protein shakes for essential vitamins. Now because I've conditioned myself this way, my stomach had shrunk and eating regular food is uncomfortable too, so there's built in portion control lol

Well that stinks. According to current face value on Gophersports anyone who prepaid for a big ten package overpaid compared to buying one series at a time; because anyone who pre-paid does not get the fees back for unplayed games. ?♀️
@cowgirl Maybe you paid more than I did, but my credit card was charged for $150 in July for 2 seats ( $70 per seat plus $5 fee per seat for a total of $75 ). Breakdown of $10 for round 1, $15 for semi's, and $25 for championship. I believe we got a $5 off per game discount for buying them early. When I look at my account on Gophersports it has the wrong total price on my account that I paid, as it shows the price of $90 total. Not sure why they have it that way. I guess if they break down the fee on a per game basis, they owe me $3 for each seat for the non played 1st round. I agree that the service fees on electronic tickets are stupid. I think it is $30 for our season tickets and another $20 for the parking pass.

yeah, the gopher sports site is awful when looking back at order history and makes no sense. I’m almost positive I paid $90 a seat.
I’m also certain they should refund for anything over $10 a home game for parking. Because they take our money before they actually release a schedule I believe they overestimate at $220.
I wish they would allow us to purchase parking passes for the tourney (do they?) We might be cutting it close tomorrow with the weather having to drive to eau Claire and back prior to the game and not having a spot might make it interesting with the full crowds we’ve been getting!

No playoff parking passes, as we looked into that. Not sure why they don't refund the overcharged parking passes, but I'm sure they say that is a "fee" as well. We drove up early to avoid the snow tomorrow.

No. I checked, there's no pre-paid parking for the B1G tourney games.I wish they would allow us to purchase parking passes for the tourney (do they?)
And, I thought that we did get the extra money from the parking passes refunded last year (not right away, but a month or so later)
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
Watched the 2015 NCAA Men's Hockey Big Ten Championship game on B1G+ - Michigan vs Minnesota - last weekend ( while the Gopher's were down in Rochester ).
A traditional Michigan vs Minnesota game with Minnesota winning 4 - 2 with 4 unanswered goals through the 2nd and 3rd periods.
I think that it will be an analogous nail-biter against Michigan State late tonight!

I've been fighting the listless, lackadaisical, malaise of long-haul Covid since shortly after getting my "Booster" shot on February 2nd . . . .
Definitely not the place to be let me tell you . . . .
