After Huglen was tackled at center ice and no call my first thought was next ticky tack goes against Minnesota. Great response to the first period. Funny how moving your feet and supporting the puck creates chances. Still don’t feel great about the turnovers down low but clean that up and we’re on our way!
An absolutely dreadful first period. The type of play which makes me question why I invest time into my favorite sports teams.
A good response to pick up a quality win against a solid team. Cannot just sleepwalk through full periods when it counts, however, though credit to Wisconsin for coming out and dominating early.
Pahlsson as a late recruiting add could prove a huge addition. Already paying off.
People complain that gopher goalies never steal any games but I'd put this one in that category, Souliere had a great game.
I'm not a big fan of the split goalie system... maybe till Thanksgiving or the very latest Christmas break. You have to go with one goalie for the big run. Personally rotating goalies, puts too much pressure on each goalie to make a mistake and have the other goalie and coaching staff breathing down their back. Similar to Darnold and JJ. With JJ being out hurt gave Darnold breathing room and not having JJ breathing down his back.

They're probably just trying to get Airey reps and experience for years ahead. Souliere has clearly separated himself by this point though if he wants to play every game from here on out and is capable of it (goalie being a physically demanding position) I certainly don't have a problem with it. I have no doubt he'll be the one they call upon in the playoffs unless something drastically changes.
People ripping the first, wisco with it all on the line and scores on a seeing eye point shot off the pipe and a fluky wrap around and we didn’t score on multiple good chances. It’s hockey not you playing on your Xbox. Solid team win and Snuggy is on fire right not. Very much playing himself into the hobey forefront

The score didn't bother me as much as what I was watching the team do, the horrible passing being the most notable. I don't have unrealistic expectations it'd just be nice to see the team improve and have less extended episodes of play like that. The first goal against was kinda uncharacteristic of Souliere, second was just a good effort by the Badgers.
Curious to know if Motzko ever has tried to lobby/address the league or conference regarding reffing, the guy has to be smart enough to know that games being called this way isn't exactly advantageous to the program (and I'd argue it's just bad for college hockey in general).
my phone no longer works during games when in the arena so it was very entertaining to read this thread from pregame to post game already knowing the outcome. we went from put in the third string to Souliere should play every game. 😂
I kid, I know how much of an emotional rollercoaster this team puts us on period to period and game to game. Nice to see us not give up and figure out how to play our game around the tenacity the red showed early on.
We were looking tired in the third, and I’m sure whatever illness has been going through the team has taken its toll. It’s a short turnaround to tomorrow but they better leave it all on the ice; next weekend’s bye weekend comes at a very opportune time.
I expect more physical play from the red menace, we need to take a few pointers and hustle more to pucks, don’t wait for the puck to come to us and keep shooting!
Looking forward to another good border battle tomorrow and hoping the game ends with another batt….”IT”.

I dunno. It was a sloppy and tight period both ways with WI deciding they were going to load the neutral zone and clutch and grab. The team adapted and didn’t seem rattled at any point. To me, that was a great team win to bounce back. Score first tomorrow night and run away from the stinking badger for the season sweep

I had to keep reminding myself we were not playing the Chiefs. 😎
Gruba may have had his best game.
Rinzel is a hell of a player but he will give me a heart attack.
Once MN simplified the game they were much better.
Same coach, different jersey, same hack, slash, and hold play.
Love giving free spelling lessons to the cheesedicks.
Solid gut-check March like win

and ps: hey ref, if you had one more eye…!!
The part in bold sums up fans perfectly. 😀
If Souliere plays bad tomorrow it's coach is horrible at recruiting goalies. We constantly get out played at the position and that is why coach can't win the big game. 😉
Two curious in arena notes. First, someone decided for the first time ever to have the team come out in the first to Enter Sandman. A little strange considering it’s Becky uses the song to come onto the ice. Second, it was neat that the students added Ski U Mah after Zombie Nation plays (I’m old enough to remember just doing a clap after it). Now they are saying Ski U Mah Bitch. Not a fan of that.
Snuggy is 1st in the country in points with 41, 3rd in goal with 20, and 4th in assists with 21.
Pahlsson is 4th on the team in points per game (0.89) 17 points in 19 games played.
Snuggy 1.41 points per game played.
Kurth 0.97 points per game played.
Wood 0.96 points per game played.
IMO Pahlsson was the player of game tonight with a goal and 3 assists. The top line is red hot.
Snuggy, Wood, Kurth and Rinzel are the only players on the team who have more assists than Pahlsson even though he missed 10 games with an injury.
Who had Pahlsson as a freshmen centering the top line? Coming into the season it seemed like he would be 4th in the center peaking order behind Moore, Huglen, and Clark.
I was thinking more along the lines of "Hey ref, get off you knees...!", but your chant works too.
I mean if anyone needs more fodder for tomorrow, some more oldies but goodies (hey student section folk, pay attention…):
Hey ref, your whistle called - it said blow me!
Hey ref, you better take a pregnancy test - cuz you missed this period!
Hey ref, if you had one more sense…(some older crowd might remember this one) 😬
And of course, the ref needs a wife*, the ref needs a wife, the ref needs a wife so he won’t screw* us! (*you may also remember some replacements for those words). 😁
The non call tonight and in other recent games have been mind blowing. There were no power plays tonight.
If the refs are just going to skate around for 60 minutes doing nothing and then collect a pay check why do we have them? 🤔
Apparently they were only going to make a call if it was Class A felony.

Was finally in the arena tonight. It was my mother's birthday and her, my dad, my little one and I made an event of it. The little guy being five meant the dinner had to be before the game, and of course we were delayed. We walked in just after Wisconsin made it 2-0.
In that moment I told my mom that the unimportant goals were out of the way.
Dave Snuggerud was one of her favorites back in the day, so Jimmy is her favorite now. He really came through for her. Such a blast was had tonight. It will make the behavior of the tired kiddo tomorrow worth it.

Late Friday night games are the most difficult for me to track live. When I woke up a bit ago I came to this thread first before looking for the score. So I'm reading through this thread with post after post after post and.... "wtf? what's the GODDAMN SCORE?!?!?"

Refereeing by it's nature is about fairness but refs are human and all the non calls lately on obvious penalties has me wondering if coach is on their shit list. Coach can have a tendency to be a bit of a whiner so it wouldn't surprise me if it could back fire which we might be seeing.
Hopefully this speculation is totally wrong and these games/non calls will prove to be outliers but with all the goal/no goal calls going against us last year (with no consistency other than all of them going against us) their seems to be evidence mounts that there could be something to my speculation.

I felt the refs were consistent yesterday, with the exception of the dive call. There were a few that could have been trips on us and similar, no issues with yesterday and letting them play.
They’re consistently bad about allowing blatant penalties in situations where a player gets beat, Pahlsson’s haul down in a prime scoring chance area was one, the one where they called a dive, and there was another that was similar to Pahlsson’s. That’s not even getting into Ziemer getting his legs taken out at the top of the crease after he beat a dude, which was slightly more iffy but probably should be called too. “Letting guys play” through obvious penalties that should be called just isn’t ideal for teams that are assembled like the gophers nor is it fun to watch honestly. And yeah the gophers probably committed some similar infractions too, you kinda have to make that adjustment and do the same thing if the refs aren’t calling it.
I watched the postgame interviews that Jup puts together and I liked Bob’s response to the question, “what was the message after the first period”. He just said, “enough”. Sounds like the message was basically that we’ve had enough of this play and it ends now. Bob, at times, seems like a pretty patient coach (again, I’m saying sometimes). We’ve heard him say after losses, or even ugly wins, that the players have to “wear that one” or that at times he’ll have the players work their way through some tough play. Sounds like last night he had had enough and told them so.
I wonder how much selling more student tickets than seats helped push the attendance to the 3rd largest ever. We sit in sect 15, next to the students, and for the 1st 5 minutes of the game, the late arriving STH had to kick the overflow students out of their seats. In our row alone, half of the row had to be removed while the game was going on.
Also, was the guy who did the weather between periods drunk?
I was recently informed by a GPLer that I'm related to Airey
