Regardless of the outcome on Saturday, the win tonight makes the next three days in Omaha all the better. All I brought was Minnesota stuff to wear and now I don't have to worry about some ass clown trying to have a power moment.
Keep your stick on the ice...
Can't waste chances against BU.

Close is the best to do it
Where does Close rank among all time Gopher Goalies?
I mean, it’s gotta be top 5 right? Top 3?
Leader in save percentage, leader in goals against average, two of the top 5 save percentages in a year. Hurting in total games and total saves because he didn’t get a full experience. But hard to argue it isn’t top 3. I might be maroon colored glasses right now though hahah

He's up there... Stauber and Hauser have to be top two, right? If he can finish something special, he could push himself above Wilcox and Briggs, but right now to me he is there with them, in Tier II. For "modern" goalies anyway.
I am not old enough to know anything about the goalies prior to Stauber...
I predicted 4-2 ENG - almost happened but a W is a W!!!
Frustrating the team can’t be playing its best hockey down the stretch but what a gutsy playoff win for the boys. Nelson is the lifeblood of this team right now.
BU game will be much more wide open which will open things up for that top line who’s been quiet as of late.
Here’s to the sue that made an apparent pit stop on their way to their own regional to root against Minnesota. Suck it
That game wasn't far off from their best - not sure which game you watched. 😀
Knies last season playing with Cooley and Snuggy - 21 goals, 21 assists (42 points) in 40 games
Brodzinski this season playing Nelson and Nevers - 13 goals, 21 assists (34 points) in 38 games
Knies was in the final 3 for the Hobey last season.
Brodzinski is a liability. 🤔
And don't try to say Brodzinski is a liability defensively he leads all forwards at +19.
The only player above him is Rinzel at +24.

Heres to the Dakotas for holding regionals near by that the Gophers and their fans can enjoy being at and end NCHC team's seasons. Jane last season and Omaha this season.
The NCHC is 2-5 in the NCAA tournament over the past two seasons (1-4 last season).
Tomorrow Michigan State and Michigan have chances to continue the trend of Big Ten teams ending Nacho team's seasons.
Not pretty. I don't care. I will take any sort of performance which results in a win at this time of year.
Nothing is going to come easy. Bring a great effort against BU and anything can happen.
Saturday can't come soon enough. Be staying at americ Inn. Hopefully lots of fellow gopher fans!!

Rewind 2 years and 2.5 months and the talk was "WHAT THE HELL ARE WE GOING TO DO" "WE ARE GOING TO PLAY A WALK ON"
I think things have worked out alright playing the walk on. 😀
He has never gotten the respect regarding conference/national awards but he is MY/OUR goalie!!!! And we are in GREAT hands with him.
Here is a clip of his grandfather apparently it runs in the family.
I thought our defense backed up too deep at times when Omaha entered the zone and allowed uncontested clean shots that could’ve beat Close but didn’t do damage, but I’m just what the eff? Their one timer in the final seconds I thought was gonna break hearts was a one of those moments, good he didn’t get all of it because short side was wide open. Great win for the boys! I think they’ll be ready to roll Saturday!😁
Positives first:
1. Nelson. Jaxon Nelson. That’s it.
2. Carl Fish has stepped up and made winning plays. I give him a ton of credit. Played solid again tonight.
3. The Closer
One negative comment:
1. Oliver Moore has to stop turning the puck over. He is creating offense for the other team. Especially in the neutral zone.
I hope they put together some deal to bus a bunch of students down for Saturday. While our fans outnumbered everyone else, they were too quiet. We were near the uno section and they were constantly doing cheers.
The band had to go tonight but they’ll be back Saturday!
Everyone that can get your asses to whioux falls!
Man about the third time we couldn't clear the zone in the last minute was not good for my heart.
My watch said my HR was 140 BPM. I should have recorded the workout.

Moore didn't have his best game. Maybe it was freshman nerves.
Someone else mentioned the Gopher D's gap control was too generous and I agree. There were too many free zone entries.
Nelson and Brodz decided their season wasn't going to end tonight and Close gave them a few helpers. Nelson has been Minnesota's best player the past couple of months and he might play himself into an NHL line-up.
These games are tough to watch for fans and, like Denver earlier in the day, the Gophers survived in the end. All in all I think they got a little lucky -- two bad turnovers (one was a freak) and both went in the net. Oh well, we'll take it.
Expect these games in the tournament. I thought it was a good effort after the rusty first period and insanty of the five minute major. Close was exceptional when he needed to be. The grizzled veteran line was solid.
I expect a completely different game against BU.
I failed to mention earlier that Kurth was very noticeable tonight.
All week, I was wondering if this game was going to be a great warmup. Even though we shot ourselves in the foot a couple of times, I thought it was the best game our boys played in about a month and a half. I wasn't sure how the team would start after getting several extra days off, but if there were any jitters, the guys shook them off as the game went on.
As an engineer and math geek, this was a lot more satisfying that it probably should be.
That was the most important game so far this season and each game forward is even more so. 3 more.

Couple thoughts on last night. With Omaha's playing style being heavy it was going to be players that can play that style were going to stand out i.e. Nelson and Brodz. Nelson just has put this team on his shoulders so many times this season and Brodz loves to play along with him. Brodz was going to put everything into that game last night and every game left this season. I think that passion played into his penalty early in the game.
I think because of that heavy style of play it eliminates players like Moore, Snuggy, and Pitlick. They each tried to make plays using their speed but were eliminated from making plays most times. Snuggy was just shooting to create second chances, he had really only two maybe three quality shots out of his eight shots taken. Omaha did a great job of limiting him chances inside the dots.
Justen Close. Boom. This guy will be what takes us further into this tournament and the way the guys play in front of him is a close second. Our D can play a certain way knowing they have Closer behind them, that is a big key.
I think there are some great takeaways from this game but I agree with what @eric-vegoe said in the post game that the Gophers shouldn't change their game against BU. I think their game will appear different because BU is not Omaha but the Gophers will look different because Moore, Snuggy, and Pitlick will be more effective because of the more open style of play. Also though, like it was said in the GPL postgame, you can't get sucked into the individual style of play because BU will make you pay for that. Celebrini is the real effing deal.
Can't wait for Saturday now!

A couple of thoughts from last night--
The building was COLD and it didn't help that we must have been under a cold air vent.
Have to give props to the Omaha fans. They showed more spirit than the Gopher fans most of the night. Not the most original cheers, but they tried. UNO UNO will be engrained in my brain for a few days... They may have seemed louder than they were since we sat next to their section.
The Farm Kid is sure putting a bow on a fine career. Nice to see the criticism line coming through.
Bob basically went with 10 forwards for the 3rd period. Not sure if Pino or Strobel even saw any ice time and Mittelstadt had limited shifts.
Gophers actually held their own in face-offs. It wasn't the bloodbath as some games this year. They were -5.
Need to work on zone exits. It was a struggle for them. Defense also turned over way too many pucks.
Clark has a bright future. Can't wait to see him play with more skilled players next year.
Was a little nervous when Bob put Moore and Snuggy out on the 5 minute PK for a shift.
Rest up boys and fans. BU will be a battle.

How did the Gopher crowd compare to Fargo last year?
A huge point in the game was during the 4x4 at the end of the 2nd. At 4:15 left UNO gets a breakaway on a play that looked offside live but Close makes the save. Gophers failed to clear and a UNO player almost scores a lacrosse goal. Had either of those gone in 100% chance Bob challenges for offside and it is VERY close. If you watch the replay the player pulls the puck from behind himself as he is past the blue already. One of those “is that possession?” plays that we’ve seen even in the NHL don’t seem to be called the same way consistently. I do think it would have been deemed offside but it would have been an excruciating review. Game stays 1-0 and 2 minutes later Clark ties the game. Whew.
Last night's game reminded a lot of this game.

Hard to tell from a screen shot, but if the puck is on his stick blade it would be possession and the player is allowed to enter the zone as long as they have possession.

I believe she also does in game hosting for Omaha as well which is why she had the Omaha jersey on. She used to be here in Mankato doing similar things for the Purple Mavericks.

Well I’m not super hungover today but don’t feel great either 😂
Up until the 5 min major ended the team played like ass, they threw the puck around a lot and had no quality chances. Close was incredible for a sequence to keep it 1-0. Right after that the gophers had 3 good looks and hit a post etc, they went from being outshot 20-5 to being up in shots 26-25 and never really looked back. Glad to see Brodzinski contribute and of course Nelson has been great all year. I don’t think they can afford to start like that vs BU but it worked yesterday.
