The apple weather app is showing 8-10" in Lakeville for Saturday. That might be where she is seeing 10-12FYI for this weekend from our resident meteorologist. First two are her thoughts from last night and next three are from earlier today. Her sister mentioned Mankato was treating streets today which she addressed in the third bullet.
One family member who lives in Blaine is seeing 10-12 inches forecasted for her area but I'm not sure what app/site she uses. I am currently seeing 1-3 inches Friday night and 3-5 inches Saturday forecasted by The Weather Channel for my area in Chisago City.
- Looks like 4-5 inches Saturday morning, pretty widespread across the area. Perhaps a little less to the south (Mkto)
- I’ll keep an eye on the forecast tomorrow and Thursday for Saturday morning
- {to her sister south of Mankato}, that {road} treatment is probably for the freezing rain threat for you later today that won’t amount to much
It’ll be further east of you- 6-10 inches but there’s still uncertainty where the snow band producing the most snow will be
- This storm setup for Saturday is like the dome buster, so someone will get a decent amount. I’m not confident where yet
Mankato was treating streets today
Confirmed.

Hoping it comes after your kid’s game.

I am not worried. There are over 75 high school hockey games on Saturday, over under on cancellations is 5. There is not enough season left to get them in and the ladies are in post season. I have a section game tonight and Saturday evening. The apple weather app is showing 8-10" in Lakeville for Saturday. That might be where she is seeing 10-12

Not worried about the game being called. Plus Apple Valley's parking is easy to get in and out of. Unlike Rosemount... lol!!!
A couple years ago I was at a AV @ Rosemount game. And it was dumping snow when I got there and when we all came out nearly everyone without 4 wheel drive was snowed in. It was great seeing people sticking around getting people out one by one. And server Rosemount high schoolers were the leaders and clearing out the lot.
I just want to get home and not be out and about with the crazies... Where are you officiating on Sat eve.

The forecasts for Blaine are changing by the hour. My Weather Underground App is currently calling for 4" total between Fri and Sat. But the "Winter Storm Watch" by the NWS is predicting 5-8. Just this morning my wife was also seeing 10 inches and she uses the Weather Channel App.
I guess we hold onto our butts but don't be shocked with a dusting.
I was hoping to drive out to my older son's games in Siren Saturday (after my younger son's game here in the cities), but with the expected snow I will stay home. I HATE missing my kid's games.
The forecast for this entire storm is changing by the hour. I don't think that there will be any confidence in snow amounts until tomorrow afternoon. I have seen forecasts of anywhere from 2" to 12" for Mankato in the last day. My gut tells me that it will be around 2"-4" around here. GE's meteorologist and You Tuber Ryan Hall Y'all are about the only two people I would listen to for snow total forecasts.

Rosemount’s fb community meteorologist Jonathan Yuhas is calling 4-8” Friday night into Saturday.

Not sure how much I trust him after his performance at the Gopher game on Friday. People who were there know what I mean...

His forecast today for the storm he is calling 8-10" for the I-94 corridor, he is leaning closer to 7-8" though. Looks like 2-4" for the Mankato area. He is really focusing on what this storm will become when it gets past us and hits the east coast. Looks like they will get double what we will receive.

All the models are shrinking today as it appears the moisture in the storm is not coming like they thought.
Looks like most of the models went from 8-10 yesterday to 3-5 today.
The thing about meteorologist, when they are wrong they never say they were wrong. The come up with excuses of what happened. Though when they are correct, they pump their chest out with a smug look on their face and think they are Zeus.

Dave Dahl was the only decent one. The rest are smug and arrogant faces. Have you ever seen an ugly meteorologist. Now days it's all computers and satellites and no science. None of them would have a clue how to read clouds by using helium ballons. And unless they have military training, they have no clue how to read clouds.

I would bet most anyone on this msg board could predict just good as any of those characters. It’s all computer and satellite generated. The science and homework is done.
And yes @j22 … I’m not a pretty face.

I use wunderground, since a weather station is about 2 miles from my residence, and it has been very accurate over the last many years.
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
NOAA for written details and storm shield for alerts and radar for me. Those two have been a pretty dead nuts combo for the last couple years now.
Continues to evolve...
Yes, more to the north. Cities should be in the 4-7 inch range. It looked like more yesterday but it’s come back to what I was originally thinking

I'm just happy that no one will care if I drive slow on Hwy 7 on Sat b/c EVERYONE drives slow on Hwy 7. Also see: Hwy 55 in the west metro. By slow I mean 5-10 under the speed limit.

As far as TV talking faces Ian Leonard is the only one that I feel comfortable with in his forecasts. I'm probably a little bias since he got his start in the US in Iowa at KWWL in Waterloo so I'm familiar with him.

You're right that it's mostly computer models now. The "expertise" comes in at knowing which one to trust more and when. Even in Dave Dahl's era there were computer models, they just weren't as good as they are now. I think our local TV meteorolgists are a mix of people with legit meteorology degrees and a few that were broadcasters first and then learned a little meteorology later (Chris Shaffer being the main one I can think of - he started as a radio DJ). Obviously I would trust the ones with legit meteorology degrees more.
Forecasts now are better than they have ever been though.
yes, the wind direction by the hour is amazingly accurate now days. Love that!

4-5” here in St. Louis Park. Real fluffy stuff, didn’t need the blower.
Probably around 6-7 inches in Chisago City.

5 or so inches in Brooklyn Park, and a little heavier, so definitely wanted the snowblower, particularly down by the street from the plows.

3+ here in Ravenna Township (SE Dakota County). Real fluffy.
1-2 here in Hopkins area. Heard 6-8 in Maple Grove and Champlin. Prob about 3 in Excelsior.

I was hoping for about a 5” blanket on the roofs but maybe an inch around Winona.

Saw this yesterday on twitter... people were going nuts on the car that spun out. Saying they should've just keep driving. Easier said than done. The vehicle pretty much did a 180 and from watching the video the driver after spinning out they had roughly 8 seconds from the next vehicle coming. Vehicles couldn't stop as is. Having the spun out vehicle try to back up and turn around would have been worse.

I'm not sure if this is something covered by the city or the insurance companies. Hopefully those people are fully covered....feels unlikely.

It'll take days or weeks for that much ice to melt w/o making additional messes. I'm sure city of Detroit and insurance companies will go back and forth on this one. I don't have to think to hard if this happened in "don't take any responsibility" Mpls. I can tell first hand after 25 plus years of living downtown and property management in Mpls. Mpls. doesn't take responsibility for anything.

I could absolutely see any city claiming "shit happens" and "that's why you have insurance" it they didn't do anything to cause the damage.I'm not sure if this is something covered by the city or the insurance companies. Hopefully those people are fully covered....feels unlikely.

I picked up one of these after you posted, and have had great success with my feed being for Birds, not Squirrels. Just picked up the Suet-block version, too, we'll see how well that works.Fighting squirrels is futile. They're just too damn clever. The only way to beat the squirrels is to stop playing the game.
Funny I came to this thread randomly... anyway... I have two of these and the squirrels in NE Minneapolis seem unable to solve the mystery of the Squirrel Buster.

Looks like us in southern Mn will be getting some weather today and tomorrow. I have only received rain so far, but it is supposed to turn to snow and it is extremely windy now. Blizzard warning in the next county over on the other side of the Buffalo Ridge.

The snow band has shifted north. More snow for everyone. Bad wind in Mkto. Please heed the blizzard warnings overnight or just go to bed, {her sister who lives ~10 miles south of Mankato)😊Could be our biggest snow of the season since that other storm petered out.News meteorologists and schools will be slow on the north west shift updatesThe band for heaviest snow is pretty much over the TC now and not red wing any more, and it’s widened and pushed west, including Mankato

As always, thanks so much for posting these updates. It's nice to have a "boots on the ground" person who is monitoring the storm and any changes, as opposed to getting 12 hour old regurgitated data.
It’s not the amount of snow, it’s the wind and drifting that’s a pain in the a$$.
