A sign of the continuing chaos in the concert industry over COVID protocols, the Foo Fighters concert announced for Aug. 3 at Huntington Bank Stadium was abruptly pulled from the venue just an hour after being announced over a disagreement in vaccine requirements. A new Twin Cities location is being sought for the date.
Just an hour after the Minneapolis gig at the Gophers football stadium was announced as part of the new Rock and Roll Hall of Famers' 16-city tour, the band pulled it off its tour itinerary and issued a statement.
"Due to Huntington Bank Stadium's refusal to agree to the band's COVID policies, Foo Fighters are not going to be able to play at that venue," the group's statement read. "We apologize for any inconvenience and are working on finding a suitable replacement — one that will prioritize the health and safety of everyone working and attending the show."

God forbid a business make decisions for how they choose to run their business within the confines of the law. That's Capitalism 101.
The Foo Fighters are making a decision based upon their covid policies. Is there a "law" that they are basing their band's covid policy on? They are free to do whatever they want. I'm also free to express my opinion on their policy.
However, the last person I'm going to take a lesson in the free market is from a virtue signalling leftist like Dave Grohl or you.
Is their business decision based on science, or just virtue signalling and moral preening? Does what they are doing really make good business sense when nearly 100% of the people going to their shows have a nearly 99.9% chance of surviving the Wuhan flu, should they come down with it somehow? The risk is nearly nonexistent. Especially in an outdoor venue like Huntington Bank Stadium.
Capitalism 101 tells me I have the freedom to choose whether I engage in a transaction to go to a Foo Fighters show. I choose to save my money and not go wherever they decide to play.
First Amendment 101 tells me that I have an absolute right to criticize the Foo Fighters for their silly decision. Let me reiterate: F*ck the Foo Fighters and the horse they rode in on.
Eric Clapton and Van Morrison agree with me. :dup:
Gary Moore too.
How about, "I disagree with their position and will no longer purchase anything from them."
Why the " :censored: :censored: :censored: :censored: :censored: :censored: ALLTHE RAGE" comment?
You disagree with them. That's fine. *shrug* Free country and all.

Stumbled upon this oldie but goodie today on Spotify.
Anyone got any recommendations on where in US Bank Stadium the acoustics might be better than others. Not happy the U acted stupid and now the Foo Fighters Concert is at US Bank stadium with the crappy acoustics.
My rub on the Foo thing is that I don't think that the talent should be dictating to the venues what their Covid policies should be. I think most all venues are up front about what their policies are and then consumers can make their own decisions whether to give their business to that venue. First Ave and their ownership group have been up front with their policies and have been successful in doing so. Artists management know that and so book there accordingly.
To me, in the case of the Foo's, I think they believe they can force or entice venues into changing their policy using the almighty dollar to see things their way. I don't agree with that at all. This isn't a Van Halen/brown M&M thing. To me the whole thing feels like an icky pub stunt on the part of the Foo's. I can't believe that they didn't know what the policies were before booking.

If you're ok with GA, the floor has been good in my experience. Closer to the stage, so no echo.

How do you find out if a venue/concert you are going to has requirements? I purchased Tickets for Tool @ Target Center in March. I didn't get any communication after purchasing the tickets that I would need to provide proof of anything, or wear a mask or anything. At this point, I just want to go see a concert and don't really care what the requirements are, just need to be prepared so I don't get turned away at the door. Where do I find this info? Target Center says show by show basis, click on events for more info. Go to events and there is none there (that I can find anyway).
So if Target Center is a show by show basis the Foos are not the only ones putting in their own requirements.

In theory if you didn't have to agree to anything when you bought the tickets you were fine.
For the Foo show there were multiple popups you had to click and acknowledge that you understood what was required before you could actually buy the tickets.
So if Target Center is a show by show basis the Foos are not the only ones putting in their own requirements.
They aren't. Some venues are requiring it like First Ave, but most of the big arenas are letting the acts decide their policies. I know for the Harry Stiles show at the X a few weeks ago they were required, but obviously not for Wild games or many other concerts at the X,
The talent is the talent so they can dictate all they want. Obviously the arena's need to agree but like in this case when one doesn't, a second one is willing to accommodate to not turn away that payday.
That's why the U is idiotic in this case. They threw away a bunch of money because they didn't want to change their policy for one event. Your choice I guess, but then you shouldn't get to bitch about not getting the $$.

Here is what I "agreed" to:
By purchasing tickets to this event, you and all members of your party agree to abide by the health and safety measures in effect at the time of the event which may, or may not, include (without limitation) the following: wearing masks; providing proof of negative COVID-19 test (72 hours before the event) prior to entering the venue; AND/OR be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (at least 14 days after final dose) and providing proof of COVID-19 immunization
Check the event venue website often and closer to your event date for the latest information as guidelines and requirements are subject to change.
The key words being may or may not include. Target Center saying "by event", Ticket Seller saying "by venue". Good, everyone points the finger at someone else. haha.

Yeah that is quite vague.
The way I read that is that you would be expected to follow whatever the local health and safety measures would be, I.E. the City of Minneapolis which at the moment has no current requirements. They obviously had an indoor mask mandate at one point and could in theory institute one again, but I'm guessing the city won get around to a testing/vax requirement by then.
But who knows.
Yeah… well.
There is no 1st amendment here. Wanna get political? That just cost 5OT a week off.
Well the U of loses a show no big deal, I used to work security at TCF Stadium and the U2 show I worked the private suite area, I was assigned outside of Joel Mauturi's suite, well they had big wigs from the Minnesota Vikings, Twins, Timberwolves and the Wild to see the show, the Private suite area is soundproof so they could not hear the show, they moved the big wigs down to the Media section where they could open the windows to here the show, Maturi and his wife stayed in their sweet and watched the show with no sound :wall:

Or maybe the U knew the demands that the foo fighters were making made no sense and wouldn't equate to a "bunch of money." The foo fighters virtue signalling demands would necessitate hiring more layers of security, create an unnecessary burden on security, and would increase the cost to host the show. All of which would reduce the Universities profits.
In this case, it's refreshing to see the U do what was right.
There is no "right" or "wrong" in this case. There is simply a difference of opinion, and both parties did what they thought was best for them. Simple as that.

I dunno, I kind of prefer songs about infidelity, murder and drinking to be a little more upbeat....

Soul Asylum played First Ave last weekend? Damn, sad I missed that.
I’m about ten years too young to be around for The Replacements/Soul Asylum/Husker Du. Would love to have been in my 20s when they were coming up, love hearing stories of people seeing them before they got big. Please share if you have any stories.

This is from the 1986 Minnesota Music Awards at The Carlton Celebrity Room in Bloomington. I was there. Very crazy night. Soul Asylum accepts an award and plays on this clip. They were obnoxiously drunk. Grant Hart and Bob Mould were at one point in the show award presenters.
The big award winners that night were the band Limited Warranty. They won 11 awards as a band and individually.

Prince and the Revolution were the secret, unannounced act. They closed the show with a 40-minute set. Which was not part of the broadcast. Very fun night.
In the early 90's the company I worked for had a private Christmas party in the Main room at 1st Ave. Soul Asylum was the entertainment that night. It was so much fun, we did it again the next year.
I've known BJ Chaney since we were in second grade. Chan Poling was in my Cub Scout pack.

I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.
I saw this band open for The Who at the St. Paul Civic Center on March 14, 1976.
Kind of an understated band, their sound system sounded like a transistor radio. When The Who hit the stage, by comparison, is sounded like you were standing behind an F-15 fighter jet. I was in the third row on the floor, right in front of Pete. :biggrin2: I could barely hear for a couple of days. It was worth it. :dup:

The Beatles doc on Disney+ is pretty interesting so far. Between the music and the things happening in the world, the 60s were crazy. Every time I watch the very early Dylan clips on YT I can't help but feel his song writing talent was from another planet.
