The next one that's gonna really hurt for me, outside of an unnatural death, is anyone from Floyd or AC/DC. They are getting up there.....Ric was banging Paulina for a while, had a good run, can't complain.
I'd say 28 years is "a while". Or maybe more that that.
The Cars were a little before my time. Before this weekend the only song I could identify with The Cars was "Just What I Needed". After I read about Ric Ocasek yesterday, I went down a YouTube rabbit hole of their music. I was stunned at how many songs I knew that I never realized was them. Good songs too.
I absolutely love the Cars music. You are right, they have a jukebox full of hits. Not going to lie though, I saw them in concert at the Met Center with Wang Chung (mid to late 80's?) and The Cars were really boring. Great music, no stage presence.
Regardless, RIP Ric Ocasek.
From "The Cars" otherwise known as their "true greatest hits album."
RIP Ric Ocasek and Ben Orr too.
Strange to have a band where the "lead singer" (Ocasek) sing a ton of songs, but all the while many of their "hits" where not sung by him.... But Ben Orr instead. Their biggest hit was "Drive" and sung by Orr. Along with many others.

I test my wife on who is singing when they come on the radio since Orr and Ocasek sound a lot alike. My hint is Ric is the the one that adds funny noises, Ben sings it straight.?

Neat article in the Stein about one writer’s experience with Ocasek

I didn't realize it was that long. Good for them!

You also have bands like The J. Geils Band where they are named after a member of the band who is not the lead singer. I'm sure there are others.
Robin Trower
Robin does sing, I’d go The Alan Parsons Project, but Alan sings occasionally too. Van Halen is the biggie.
Fleetwood Mac...
The Count Basie Orchestra...
I've recently acquired Slipknot v.3, Deftones Adrenaline, and ICPs Ringmaster on vinyl and have been jamming to those this week
Fleetwood Mac...
Jeff Beck Group
Blackmore's Night
Santana
Technically The Ramones.

Wonderfully eclectic.

The Byrds -- 49 years ago today at The Fillmore East. :good2:
Happened to hear this tune on the radio today. One of my favorite groups back in the mid-60's.
I am probably late to the party on this but the Classic Album series on Amazon Prime is fantastic.
Basically documentaries on how classic albums were made and it looks like they have been around a while on various cable channels.. So far the two I've watched (Steely Dan Aja & Lou Reed Transformer) have been really well done.

Saw Robert Plant at the amphitheater in Moorhead last night. Really good show. Good mix of solo stuff and Zep tunes with a different twist. Still a magnetic front man at 71. Was a little surreal to see the singer from Led Zeppelin in a cornfield on the Minnesota/ North Dakota border, but the venue was pretty cool. Plus I got to visit Junkyard Brewing. ?
We saw Frankie Valli at the Orpheum last night. Can't believe he's 85. I think he lip sincs several of the songs, but others he's clearly singing live. He has a great 9 piece band and four good singers with him. Fun show for us oldsters. Hope I can look and move as well when I'm 85!
