I was disappointed that the ep didn't have a "tribute" at the end, hoping that is in the next ep. But overall, this is escalating hardcore. This is The Way. 😉

Bring Back Alice. Polish series on Max. Two high school girls who by all appearances don't know each other disappear from a rave on the same night.  One girl - Alice - is found a year later but she has no memory of what happened.  Yet.  Some of her friends are likely involved and from there the mystery continues.  Two episodes so far and it's very well done.

I have been watching The West Wing on HBO Max.  I forgot how much I liked that show.  I try to mix up what I watch with something new and something old.

1939: Secrets of Hollywood's Golden Year.

This 2-parter tells behind the scenes stories of what many consider Hollywood's greatest year for films.  You think your boss is a dick? You lack worker's rights? You have a few nasty co-workers do ya? You've seen nothing yet.

Just finished watching Jury Duty on Amazon Freevee.  A couple of writers from The Office head up this series which is filmed in the style of The Office with one exception...the entire cast are actors except one guy who has no idea the entire thing is fake.  So think Punk'd that lasted three weeks of a fake jury trial.  It is only 8 episodes and it a fun watch.

THIS!  Most folks have no idea how the old studio system ruled over stars and workers, it was brutal.

Example: Later years people made fun of Judy Garland for her addiction problems, but the studio made her an addict.  1939 she made Wizard of Oz.  The studio doctors gave her speed during the day to get long hours of filming out of her, then gave her sleeping pills so she’d sleep at night.  She was 16.

Note: Due to inflation dirty deeds will no longer be done dirt cheap.

Ep 1 covered this in quite a bit of detail. They also wouldn't let her order her own meals and forced her to put like a pebble in each nostril so that her nose would be more perky.  And some things I knew such as the paint used for the Tin Man character was so toxic it forced the original actor out, etc., etc.

There is a really good book out there by Gregory D Black called "Hollywood Censored: Morality Codes, Catholics, And The Movies" about the Hays Code (the precursor to the MPAA) and how it affected movies and what they could and could not show. You think the MPAA is horrible with their rules? Hoo boy.

Thank you for responding. I can't find it on my Paramount+ feed; I wonder if it's only available currently outside the USA.

La Reina Del Sur S3 (Netflix streaming)

So, I first watched the entire USA Network series "Queen Of The South," which is very good. Then I read the base novel (which is very vaguely similar to the USA show, and *ahem* fiction; it's based on a very true story, changed juuuuuust enough details to label it fiction), THEN I started watching the telenovela show on Netflix (from Univision/Telemundo) where the first season is much more true to the novel.

The second season is "well, what if we continue the story?" So, yes, open-ended we can do what we want with it. They did well. I guess there is a third season now, I was unaware. A couple eps in, more political drama than the drug trade, where it all started. Being a soap opera, sure it's a bit over the top at times, and of course ALL the seasons are long (about 60 eps each season).

If you like a long-haul series, I would recommend this one.

High Desert with Patricia Arquette, Matt Dillon, Bernadette Peters, Rupert Friend and Brad Garrett.  Arquette plays a down on her luck divorcee trying to figure out what she's going to do with her life after the death of her mother. She decides to go work for a PI (Garrett in a great role) and the fun ensues.  Interesting premise, great characters and incidentally wow does Bernadette look amazing at 75.

UGH. "Mayans MC"  Final Season is NOT available for season pass on Amazon Prime. It's only on Hulu.

BUT, Hulu has a promo for $2/mo w/ads for a span of 3 months. I can deal with that. Bonus is I haven't seen Letterkenny's last 2 seasons, nor the Wu Tang series on there. $6 for a season of Mayans (normally $15-20 on Prime/no ads) and those other shows? Win.

And Mayans certainly didn't mess around, they started with a bang.

Probably so although the only real angle left for that is Rebecca vs. Rupert after the move by Nate.

Revenge for what - trying to get Nate laid? My only criticism of the show so far is Nate leaving in the first place followed by his next leave.

If you're a fan of the Smartless podcast (Will Arnett, Jason Batemen and Sean Hayes) a 6-part series chronicling their (I think) 2021 US tour is available on Max.  It's cool how naturally funny all of them are and they have great chemistry as a trio.  Fun stuff.

Scare little Mary?  That doll is a parents worst nightmare! Can you imagine listening to that laugh all day?
My friends in-laws gave their 2 grandkids this game called Chicken Limbo.  Plastic limbo bar that played the limbo song but with CLUCKING CHICKENS!  Over and over.  Of course the kids loved it?

My friend said it lasted one day and then it “accidentally” broke.

When my nieces were little, I always always always bought them presents that made a lot of noise/were annoying. That's what you're supposed to do, right? 😉

Halfway through S3 of La Reina Del Sur (30ish of 60 eps) and it's holding up. Letterkenny is also surprisingly holding up overall. There are some moments in the latter where they beat a dead horse, but the highs definitely outnumber the lows by a wide margin.

I inherited an old china doll from my grandma and my wife was horrified by it but wasn't going to throw it away or give it away for fear of bad juju.  She put it in a trunk that we rarely get into...she got into the trunk a couple years after putting it in there...it's gone.  We have zero clue where it went.  My wife was the only one who ever got into the trunk for anything and she would never touch the doll...it's just gone.

Mayans, almost halfway through the final season. I have a "gonna throw the dart" theory, so a spoiler of sorts, I will choose my words carefully:

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

Bish will be out, with respect, no hard feelings. Angel will have to choose between his brothers (MC) and his brother (blood) and take him out; they will find out information.

I found the season (series?) finale of "Ted Lasso" to be very satisfying. A lot of resolution, redemption and closure for the characters and fans. The series started off with what was a ridiculous premise and developed into a warm, meaningful and enjoyable run. Truly have enjoyed it.

I have no theory on what may happen this season.  I just can't get a hold on what EZ's motives are with how he is running the club.  I hope it stays interesting to the end.

There is a LOT going on, for sure, hence at this point, throwing a dart.

I did appreciate Dana Delaney in this last episode. She's aged well. Smile

Completely caught up with Letterkenny. The final 2 eps were awesome. The "best darts ever" and the Australian/NZ battle scenes were incredible.

Loved the random Mah Jong playing in the latest Mayans episode. It's pretty much a lost game in this day and age.

That being said, things are heating up. Halfway through the season, it'll be interesting on how they'll tie things up.

I'm through E2 of The Days - the 8-part Netflix series about the earthquake and tsunami that led to the meltdown of the Fukushima nuclear reactor in Japan in 2011. While it's compelling enough for me to continue, it's lacking something that Chernobyl had and vs. the HBO series doing telling their story in only 5 parts, it already feels like some cutting could have improved the overall impact so far.

Eps 3-5 of The Days have definitely been better than 1-2 and I hope this trend continues, although I still feel like they could have got this far in 3 or 4 episodes only.  But not enough of a complaint for me to not recommend it to anyone interested in that type of story.

And The Grand Tour has finally put out a new episode.

If any of you can VPN your way to streaming a show called Ininifi I highly recommend.  It's a French, Russian and American collaboration and set mostly in Kazakhstan, where a cosmonaut from the ISS has seemingly fallen to Earth following an accident in space. I'm 2 eps in and it's really fantastic..

I may be correct on Angel making a choice, though I did not see that path coming. EZ is...wow. Definite foreshadowing on what he wrote down in his notebook compared to what he actually said at Temple (he left a key sentence out).

They have 3 (?) eps left I think...gonna get chaotic up in here.

When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.

I am halfway through S2 of The Bear. I was not as big of a fan as the accolades it got for S1, but so far for me S2 is kicking S1's ass. For me the story is better, the pacing is better, the character development is better, and Ayo Edebiri better get nominated for a GG and an Emmy.

The Day I Met El Chapo:
Netflix streaming

Kate del Castillo, star of "La Reina del Sur" telenovela series (which I loved), was the actress that accompanied Sean Penn to an interview with El Chapo, TOP cartel guy. At the time of this filming, I had no idea who Kate was. After "La Reina" and seeing her in another movie or two, I am a fan.

3 eps, hour or so long per ep. Just watched one ep tonight, and wow.

It is subtitled, so take note.

Captain Obvious here, Sean Penn is an ass.

Finished the mini-series, and wow. When both US and Mexican journalists, lawyers, and some courts agree on the details of the story...hoo-boy.
