there's a smash burger that’s new there this year that looks exactly like the one my girlfriend makes once and a while using a gluten free soft shell and it tastes just like a Big Mac from a recipe off the net. Funny kinda because when I had my first one a couple years ago I said she should sell these somehow. Not in the food business though. Dang, love the fair, try to get there with the kids every year.
The "Flying Dutchman" is a secret menu item at In-N-Out Burger. It's a simple, bun-less burger consisting of two beef patties and two slices of cheese.
The local Dairy Queen in my hometown is closing at the end of this week. It has been a staple in the community for decades, even though it was always closed during the winter months. The current owners had it for 7 years, and their kids have no desire to continue to run it. They tried to sell it, but no takers. Part of the issue is that the corporate DQ is not easy to deal with and the franchise fees are pretty hefty for a small town location. I see many DQ's have closed in outstate Mn as I drive to the Twin Cities. Rumor has it that the old DQ will become a Scooter's Coffee.
I was recently informed by a GPLer that I'm related to Airey
Mankato has a neighborhood DQ which is across the street from Mankato West High School and has been in that spot for 35 years. It is ice cream only and only open from around April to November. A local family has owned it for at least 25 of those years I believe. Pretty sure there would be a mob if DQ screwed over that family and attempted to close that location.
My wife retired last Friday and her sister retired at the end of May so we went to Travail on Friday to celebrate...wow! Truly an amazing (and $$$$) dining experience. So cool and hope to find an excuse to return someday.

It was my wife’s birthday this weekend and we went to Herbst for dinner. Near 280 and university. It’s a small farm to table restaurant, which we had been two previously. Their menu changes monthly and they currently have a dill brined fried chicken that was so so so good. One of the best things I’ve tried in a while. It a slightly reminiscent taste to dill pickle chips, which my wife and I love.

A mutual friend of @jupiter and myself, claims she liked the fried olives (green olives with cream cheese) deep fried, MN sushi (pastrami, cream cheese and pickle) and the garlic fried cream cheese wontons. Was not a fan of the deep fried ranch and Jalapeño popper donut with hot honey. Going tomorrow with my wife and two youngest kids… First time taking the kids to the State Fair.
If they do keep the Big Ten style for the subs, cool. Have not been impressed with Thirty Bales otherwise, in any way, shape, or form.
They would need a sandwich oven from the 1980's and not clean it for 10 years... the best subs ever. Just like the pizza at Campus Pizza and Chinese food at the Village Wok.
The BWW site at Station 19 is for sale. The owners want to sell it so it can be redeveloped. BWW isn't exactly a 5 star restaurant, but eliminating another food option on campus will make the other places even more congested. The BWW lease runs through 2030.
While I’m open to development there, I really hope we don’t get another glass and concrete box to look at.
The rendering looks like the parking garage from Mission Impossible.....no thanks.

They are, in general Memorial Day to Labor Day is their season. Used to be an A&W way back, IIRC. Thursday nights in summer, it's the setting for unofficial classic car shows.
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
The old A&W stores are few and far between. All the A&W I think I know went through full remodels. Got rid of the carhop parking and pretty built a new restaurant.

I think they are usually paired up with KFC? I think there's an A&W in Pine Island, Pine City (?) still.
