Pink Ivy (Hopkins) is opening soon. There was an article in the Star Trib on Thu...kinda high scale for the area, veggie-forward (BUT NOT VEGAN WE MEAN IT)...I really don't see this place lasting. Doesn't quite fit the neighborhood. We'll see.

Hit up Brasa in Hopkins for lunch today on a couple recommendations from friends. Creole style food. Had the 2pc chicken with plantains and cornbread (also was treated to samples of the pork and smothered chicken, since the mgr knew me 😀 ). Very good. You could cut the chicken with a butter knife, it was JOOOOOOOOOCY. Cornbread was MOIST, and the plantains were crack-like. I need more of those plantains.
The meal w/a bottle of Mexican Coca-Cola was $21, but they also do not expect tips (and they are transparent about that). I did not leave hungry, that's for sure.

Went to Dave’s Hot Chicken tonight during the 2nd intermission. Not bad at all. I went safe and had the medium sauce. The fries are decent and the dipping sauce is dipping sauce. Simple menu which I like. Definitely going when the AV location when they open and all weirdos are done lining up for the craze.

Has anyone tried Chi Maek Korean Fried Chicken? There is one in St Paul and they just opened one in Coon Rapids.
If you're ever in Omaha, try Spaghetti Works. My wife had their lasagna and she said it was the best lasagna she's ever had. I had a bite of it, and it was really good. I had the trio pasta (spicy Italian, clam & beer cheese sauces) with a hot link. Had a second bowl with just clam and beer cheese sauces and their meatballs. Their spicy Italian and beer cheese sauces were good. Their clam sauce takes the back seat to the Old Spaghetti Factory's. All meals also come with an unlimited salad bar and toast.

Afro Deli Downtown St Paul If people still work downtown St Paul it is a must.
@bert Any suggestions for dishes to try there? I remember Zwak recommending it in the past
Brought back some smoked salmon and salmon fillets from Kendall’s Smokehouse in Knife River. Already broke open some of the sugar cured smoked salmon. Even gave the cat a couple of small pieces.

Thats pure up cat bribery! I hope the cat loves you best, otherwise they’re just using you. Oh wait, it’s a cat, of course they’re using you.😻Brought back some smoked salmon and salmon fillets from Kendall’s Smokehouse in Knife River. I'm a cat lover so i can be honest, they’re furry criminals.
Note: Due to inflation dirty deeds will no longer be done dirt cheap.
This cat (named Conn Smythe) eats almost anything. He loves Cheetos and Doritos for late night snacks.

A couple friends and I decided to check out Pink Ivy in downtown Hopkins, to see what it was all about. Sat at the rail, and while perusing the drink menu (and eyeballing the bottles behind the bar), one of the owners came over and introduced herself (she correctly profiled us as whiskey nerds).
She spent most of our hour visit there chatting with us, getting feedback, and talking liquor (since 2 of us work PT at a liquor store). She said they know they can't compete with Pub 819 on the whiskey (although the tequila selection they had was very impressive), and asked us for a couple of suggestions to try and get, something different, etc.
Our group as a whole ordered Old Fashioned, Manhattan, and what was called a Razz Rye (Rye Whiskey, Raspberry Shrub, Lemon, Absinthe, Tarragon, Dill). All were very excellent (we sampled each other's drinks, of course). She also gave us a taster of Two James Johnny Smoking Gun, which is a blended whiskey with Japanese tea flavor, specifically meant to compliment Japanese food.
While we didn't order food, we saw some sandwiches being served, and they were generous portions and looked delicious. I'll admit, when this place first opened, I didn't know if it would work, and I walked in expecting to be disappointed, and the exact opposite happened.

Glad to hear. It looks good and have been meaning to try.
Took the family to Lucky 13 Pub in Burnsville Saturday for lunch. All 5 of us commented on how good the food was. I had the Lucky 13 burger and it was off the charts excellent. My wife had the cob salad and said it was the best salad she’s ever had. All 3 kids gave thumbs up on their grilled cheese!!!
I even had the waiter summon the manager and gave an outstanding review to her. Told from host to the waiter to the cooks… it was a great experience for us. To top it off I bought $10 in pull tabs for the family to have fun with and won $100. Really $80, after the initial $10 and $10 tip!!!

After being at Minnesota Burger Co. in Apple Valley 3 times for late night apps. We finally went and had their burgers… twice. The Bacon Cheeseburger is awesome. And the MNBC Burger is really good.

Ill let you be a the judge of that. Only after you start a third thread of the other teams in the BIG.

I have been to the Lucky 13 in Plymouth 4-5 times...its fine. I wouldn't say anything was great but it was enjoyable.

2nd visit today for a Sunday group that gather; all of us were at the LTD block party yesterday, kind of tired of beer. Upon entering, the owner was right on us, remembered us, and mentioned that they brought in some new whiskeys, and gave us a work-in-progress Happy Hour menu, and wanted our thoughts. Owner really wants to make her mark, and is really tapping into the locals, IMO, which is good. I am more than impressed with the customer attention, and we were taking note of the dishes being served, since we've seen different ones on our two visits. They still look amazing.

Deep fried ranch dressing
If it requires utensils I'm not eating it.
Pink Ivy in Hopkins got gold for best new restaurant. Continually tweaking their menu and beverage options. Not to pat myself and friends on the back, but they've specifically brought in some whiskeys on our recommendation. 😉

My wife had to do some stuff in Northfield last night. If we ever go to Northfield, we eat at 'The Quarterback Club'. Yesterday morning one of my patient's suggested 'Reunion' in Northfield. So we tried it... my said several times last night we need to come back. And I would agree... It was very good.
After dinner, she did what she needed to the do and we stopped the 'The Quarterback Club' for milkshakes... they have the best butter pecan shake around!!!

We seem to be losing a lot of the local Savoy’s pizza locations. The one on Snelling just closed. The one on the Tria Rink building in St. Paul closed a while back too. Both were relatively new.
We went to a local Italian place tonight for our 27th anniversary. Some vino, beef carpaccio, a cheese plate, eggplant parmesan, risotto and a seafood pasta dish I can't name haha. Wonderful.

Geesh, ~3 months after I move out of the area the Snelling Red's location closes. This may be on me since they were one of my to to's for pizza delivery; Checkerboard being the other and my favorite.
One of the downsides of living in the hinterland is food delivery is basically non existent. One pizza place in Lindstrom, other than Domino's) delivers to our house.

Your better off throwing a frozen pizza in the oven than Domino's. The only worse place then them... Little Caesar's. Then only time those places were good were in college or you were buzzed on alcohol.

Not sure if they deliver, but you might try Pizza Pub. My wife and I have tried the one outside of Forest Lake (North Shore Drive on the north side of Second Lake) twice and thought it was very solid. I see on their web site there’s one in Center City.

We just went to the FL location last weekend, very good! Sadly neither location delivers to us but we have done take out from Center City.
Wagon Wheel in Chisago City has very good pizza and I forgot they deliver as well but you have to call in your order.

I loved the Red's Savoy in Downtown St Paul. Truly excellent pizza. But the franchise Savoy pizza I've had is not nearly as good and I have no idea why they would do anything other than the home office.
Similar to Broadway Pizza. The original location and the Robbinsdale location makes pizza so good I'd consider buying it just for the recipe. But the other locations are not as good and I've been told one of the franchise owners insisted on changing the recipe....
I've been eating Broadway since I was a little kid and I live near one. I just don't go. Very salty.
Triggered. There is a place in Madison, the Greenbush Bar, known for their pizza and whiskey. They recently sold, and part of the deal was that the new owners got the pizza recipe. They didn't want to mess with it. That's some kudos to be given out.

Most of my friends and family now know that when I say “Let’s go to Broadway.” I mean we are trekking to Robbinsdale.
There are a few other locations I don’t mind, but most are meh. Elk River and Fridley are two I can handle. Coon Rapids and Maple Grove are terrible.
My favorite one other than Robbinsdale closed a long time ago, it was in Coon Rapids right by Northtown. It moved to the current Fridley location and the old building became The Well.
I only really get to the Elk River one now as it is close to my parents. If we’re going out for pizza like that where I am we end up at Parkway.
The Plymouth Broadway is decent.

Tried Hangry Joe’s in IGH today. Very similar to Dave’s Hot Chicken though more flavor for the chicken. And more side options than both Dave’s and Cane’s. I hade the wings with spicy smoke bbq and waffle fries. Good, but not great. Though their dipping sauce for the fries is WAY better than what Cane’s and Dave’s offers.
There logo is pretty cool and the art work inside is cool.

Tried the deep fried ranch at the fair today. It was essentially a ranch flavored cream cheese wonton. There was much more cream cheese than ranch. A bit underwhelming.
Also tried the Amish donuts that were a hit last year. To me it was a slightly more doughy version of a Krispie Kreme.

There is an awesome restaurant in Champlin call Mavericks. One of their appetizers is jalapeno cream cheese wontons. I drive to this restaurant specifically for this one item (although their whole menu is great). My wife and I went there last night. Highly recommended.
Also another recommendation is to never eat ranch dressing. Its a gross condiment used to get kids to eat vegetables. If you must eat it to help with vegetables, use the ranch dip (make it yourself from the packets).
Third recommendation (state fair edition)- corn (cornbread) dogs >>>>> pronto (bisquick) pups.
Good grief, did I write that post?! Agreed on all counts.
Had the bacon wrapped pork belly at the Hanger while at the State Fair.... 👍 👍 👍

Ranch and Blue Cheese both go well with hot wings...
Btw... wing (flats) should always be bone in. This boneless BS is basically chicken nuggets.
