I'm sure when Maria Taylor signed with NBC, that made Liam McHugh expendable. I think he does a good job as host.

ESPN/Turner to air 78 games on TV, that is down from the apex 100+ that NBC sports showed. Although, if you have certain streaming services, you may be better off.
How does this coverage compare overall to that on NBC? In its announced schedule for the 2019-20 season (pre-shutdown), NBC and NBCSN planned to air a total of 109 games, more than the 78 airing across ESPN, ABC, and TNT this season. The sheer number of exclusives on the Hulu/ESPN+ package puts these TV deals over the top, but that also requires an additional subscription on the part of fans. Thanks to the inclusion of the NHL.tv package in ESPN+ this season, it seems like out of market fans are getting a better deal with these TV deals, while in-market fans (who already needed a cable/satellite/streaming subscription for their local RSN) were getting a better deal with the old NBC package.

Was good to hear Rosie back on the air this week. He's been through a hell of a lot the last few weeks but I think the celebration of life they had for Denise did a lot of good for him.
The Power Trip had Don Shelby call in this morning to talk with Rosie after he apparently gave a phenomenal speech at the ceremony and you can tell how much it meant to Rosie that all those guys were there for him.

For all of us who thought not getting BSN on YouTubeTV was bad enough, they’re now battling with NBCU. Not seeing much for channels I would miss other than early round golf on Golf Channel (which is over) and Sunday Night Football. I’ll have to look because YTTV says they would drop their price $10 and I can get NBC on my digital antenna so it may be a win.

NBC playing hard ball to get people to sign up for their stupid Peacock platform, I assume
Nice to see YTTV dropping their price $10/month if this happens.
Just an FYI. The Rink Live is eliminating their paywall and all content on the site will be free going forward. Those who have paid the subscription rate will be refunded. Some really good content on the site.

What I would hope, is that "lost" money is because they are building a strong base, so they can continue to build a reliable brand. Pay up front, get the dividends later. I can't imagine ESPN or CNN made money off the bat (I have NOT looked into that, I could be wrong).

No issue here. Do you have Comcast (Infinity)? It was a few minutes late coming on. And once it did the picture was not in high-def, but I was just happy to be able to watch, the disappointing outcome notwithstanding.

For those that subscribe to the athletic - does anyone else find the search parameters useless? I’m only allowed to see 30 entries, and say when you search “Gopher Hockey” there are zero relevant results. Unless you know the author or specific headline, how do you find older or relevant articles?!! Maybe Vegoe can provide some insights? Thanks all!
Cowgirl — totally agree on the search engine being less than effective. I usually have to find the author and look back very closely. I have no idea why it doesn’t work well and it’s not something that shows up in general google searches either.

Yeah, the local teams are still getting their money. Sinclair is the one who is hurting. They are either REALLY playing hardball trying to recoup some money, or they just have enough capital where they don't feel the need to negotiate down.

Once again, capitalism screws the little guys
Sinclair Broadcast Corp. paid $9.6 billion in an August 2019 highly leveraged deal for the Fox Sports RSNs. Sinclair’s RSN subsidiary business, Diamond Sports, was forced to write-down the value of the acquisition by $4.2 billion and continues to face debt pressure over the deal. It has failed to restructure its $8 billion-plus in debt this summer and is focused on creating its own streaming service that could cost $15 to $20 a month starting in the first half of 2022.
Once again, capitalism screws the little guys
But more often than not it rewards little guys who have developed innovative ideas and are bought out and rewarded appropriately. Definitely not the case here...

If you had done this 3-4 years ago... sure. Now? Hell no. I am done chasing them, I changed TV providers several times - enough where my wife was ready to throw me out of the house haha. I finally stopped changing. Now, as I have watched less, I also care less and don't feel the need to watch every game anymore.
Additionally, money has become more tight as the cost for everything is increasing and both our wages haven't moved in 2 years, and I took a 5% cut 18 months ago. I lost my 401k match at the start of this, and that hasn't come back either. I have a hard time believing I am the only one in that scenario. We aren't adding any streaming/media packages anytime soon. $5 per month, I'd probably do it. $20? Not a chance. Maybe give me a per game option, $2 per game and I can pick 2-3 games per month to watch? I'd consider that.
4-5 years ago, I was all for picking and choosing and paying for only what I wanted. Currently, I HATE the fragmentation of media where I have to create an account, switch apps, log-in and log-out of several different things just to watch something different. This thing is only available here, that show is only available there.
I wonder how Peacock is doing? I don't think as well as they thought either. They pulled the office and parks and rec off Netflix, 2 of the most popular shows, and I think just assumed everyone would sign up. I don't know anyone who signed up as they all either watch those shows some other way now, or just took a break from bingeing them constantly.
And the above is one of the many reasons I am satisfied with listening to Gophers hockey on radio (even IF it's on AM most of the time).
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
I used to be a bit obsessive about being able to watch all the local teams live. Especially football and hockey. Now, it just doesn't bother me. There is so much else to occupy my eyeballs that I really don't care either way. I'm not chasing them either.

This is kind of where I'm at. At this point I just don't want to give them any business out of spite. They made a bad deal, and now they're forcing a large portion of us to suffer because of it. Fuck off.
I've actually been more than content with following the teams via boxscores, reading Russo and others, and going out to bars every once in a while with friends to catch the odd game here and there.

The way I understand it, it would be a standalone streaming service, for those who do not have access to the TV channel.
They have a Bally app for those who DO have access to the TV channel, to stream games if they choose. So this would be a "streaming only" option.
So, why did Sinclair pay so much for the stations if they're not worth it? Seems like a bad business decision and they're punishing the consumers for it.

Yes, they have an App... Does it work well? No. It crashes regularly, and doesn't play nicely with Chromecast. I tried using my dad's Xfinity Log-In for awhile and just gave up over time. Their app is garbage.
