I've commented on this before, and nothing has changed. I still haven't heard any weatherperson boldly predict a "washout", especially this year when such a prediction would be most welcome.

Bally Sports North's Annie Sabo's last broadcast with them was yesterday. She is moving back to Florida to be closer to fiancé and family. Wonder if this again opens the door for Katie Emmer to return full time to BSN, as she was doing some free lance work with them since she returned from Philly?

I guess it is happening.

How long does the Wild's contract with Sinclair run? I have ZERO interest to have gambling shoved down my throat while watching sports. It completely ruins the fun for me. So much so that I refuse to watch NFL games with any of my friends who play fantasy football. To each their own, I just have no interest in it. When KFAN runs their fantasy sports and sports betting segments I turn it off. I want to be oblivious to all of that, and if it is going to be constantly thrown up on the screen or have a ticker (which I hate anyway) devoted to gambling I will be done with it.

I also have no interest in paying $25/month for just the Wild & Twins on top of my regular TV.

I will admit, I was completely wrong about this. The fragmentation of media and channels has completely sucked, and I have lost interest in a lot of it. "Only available on Peacock", etc. I have to have 47 different accounts and sign in and out of apps to watch different things, not just change a channel. I hate it. Originally I was one of the ones begging to be able to pick only the channels I want and pay for those. Now I hate it, every bit of it.

If this is the way it is going, I will just find "alternative methods" of watching the games I want to see or just not watch at all.

Agreed. Other than Gopher hockey I don’t NEED tv (I would miss the twins and wild) but I would consider saving the monthly fortune I give to the cable company if I have to pay extra to continue to watch sports, since that’s really the only reason I have TV. I could otherwise live without.

Based on the bio I read, the guy KARE 11 hired seems highly qualified. Every company makes a big deal about how they "promote from within" but that's usually corporate speak to make the employees feel good.

Dave already has a good job. Maybe he didn’t want the 5, 6 & 10 spot with the rest of the gang or maybe he wasn’t offered it, but I don’t necessarily see this development as a negative reflection on him. In general, sports personalities at KARE 11 have had good longevity ☝️

Hopefully he isn't the next Russell Shumoaka. I'm sure I butchered the spelling of his name, but he thought he was Chris Berman with his wacky sayings and he did not last long.

Oh god I remember him. It was very clear that Paul Majors HATED him and his shtick, because of that he wasn’t going to make it. Majors out and out mocked him on the air, the disrespect was clear.

On the Daily Delivery podcast this morning with Michael Rand had Dave St. Peter on from the Twins. Regarding Bally Sports North he said that after this season their contract with BSN covers 2 more seasons. Interesting to see how that goes.

I still pick up a physical paper for work, to read at lunch and stuff. Stuck in my ways for that, for sure. The act of physically reading a newspaper is that ingrained in my habits during a workday. Also see: I dislike e-books. Tried it, can't get into it.

We get the Sat/Sun paper delivered and once I retire (it's on a tee boys, have fun with the jokes! :idea2: ) I plan to get it daily again.

I've tried eBooks a couple times and it's just not for me.

Reading on screens sucks, it’s so hard on the eyes. I’ll admit I do stare at screens waaaay too much but whenever there are articles I need to read for work, I print them. I still get print magazines.

We get the Thursday PioneerPress and both PioneerPress and Strip on Sundays. I'll never be able to completely give up a physical newspaper, especially on Sundays. Only like doing the crosswords on paper.

I like eBooks. They don't take up much space on your device so you can have a pretty large library. I have the Kindle app on my iPad and there are always free or really cheap book deals on Amazon.

I tend to be a late adopter of new tech (I work in tech support after all) but I adopted a kindle about 10 years ago. I got a "paperwhite" which is not at all like a phone or laptop screen when it comes to eye strain.

The convenience of having 3 or 4 books 'in progress' at a single time, without having to lug 3-4 books around, was enough to convert me. Then I moved across country and the pleasure of not having a ton or more of books I'd already read to pack/unpack was huge!

I haven't really tried reading periodicals or newspapers on my kindle. Maybe I should look into what's available...

This describes almost exactly why I have drifted more and more to reading on my tablet. I have always enjoyed reading a hard copy book, but I too have a habit of reading books in parallel. At any one time, I have 3 or more books in progress. It allows me to read whatever I feel like in the moment, from brushing up on retirement and financial planning to a biography on Winston Churchill to a face paced novel.

When I travel, I bring only my tablet for books, movies etc. It's a great way to pack light* and have everything I need close at hand.

*I use only a backpack for trips up to 3-4 days, so space is a premium.

I adore my iPad for reading. I have the Hennepin Library app and can download books for free. I like a physical paper but we have a complimentary online subscription that gets a workout at the cabin. I dislike reading magazines on a device, but have certainly switched my habits for books and the paper.

I’m a very fast reader and I love to read. A week long vacation would require a book a day plus an extra, just in case. Even with basic paperbacks, that was always a lot of extra weight and space. The wonder of being able to download all those books onto one light weight screen is a modern day miracle to me.

Note: Due to inflation dirty deeds will no longer be done dirt cheap.

Been a fan of Kindle e-books for general reading for many years now. Makes travel so much easier, and as mentioned above, is essentially the same as reading from physical paper, not at all like reading from a computer screen.

Not a good fit for something like a daily newspaper or anything, but for a large collection of books, it's great.

Living in the sticks, I subscribe to the e edition of the Star Tribune. I do drive to town on Sundays to pick up the Sioux Falls Argus Leader. I am almost ready to pull the plug on that one as their Sunday paper is really not worth it since a lot of retailers don't do ads anymore, I do miss reading the physical paper every day though.

I cannot do this. I start *a* book and finish it before the next one. This year, on the Houghton trip, I actually brought two books, figuring I would actually read through at least one (as opposed to years past). I was thankfully correct. Finished one, got through most of the other.

During his last appearance on the KFAN, I can't remember if it was with the Power Trip or Common, he talked about taking time off from the KFAN since she was in hospice. That was only a week or two ago.

I am just amazed there are people who can help those fading away like hospice nurses, god bless them all.

Pretty sure we ran into Dan Burrito last night in Excelsior. I don't want to be mean but let's just say he was made for radio. Mr. Green

Pet peeve: On Highway 7 through much of Minnetonka (and possibly beyond going East) there are construction cones on both sides for miles and I did not see one piece of construction equipment. :censored: :chainsaw:

And starting next weekend, either EB or WB on 7, between 101 and Christmas Lake Road will be closed completely (just on the weekends). On top of that, starting Tue, the bridge on Cty 15 will be closed.

The one-lane setup is lasting until next July. It's pretty much from 494-Oak St in Excelsior.

Met Dan at an Excelsior restaurant and he was quite talkative about his SMU articles in the early ‘80s, bought me a drink for bringing them up. Thought he was a cool guy that doesn’t mind stirring the pot. I liked him. ?

I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.

I have noticed that the radio streaming app Audacy is really bad for commercials. This morning I was listening the WCCO to catch up on the news while in the shower. I heard the same 2 commercials back to back to back to back. Just the same 2 commercials played over two different commercial breaks. One about seat belts and the other about hunger. I noticed something similar last weekend when I was streaming JackFM on the same app. The same commercials repeating over and over and over.

So what is the deal with that? Is this Audacy itself with the problem OR is it something where the local radio stations are not selling many ads for streaming, so they need to just repeat ads? This is obviously not the case when I listen via a traditional radio, only when I stream on the Audacy app. I never have this problem when streaming stations on iHeart.

I’ve noticed the same thing on regular tv. They’ll show the same commercial twice in a single ad block, maybe with one other in between. It’s never a huge national ad, always a local one. I thought the same thing, they obviously can’t fill up their allotted local time slots.

Note: Due to inflation dirty deeds will no longer be done dirt cheap.

I am thinking lack of ad sales, also.

When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
