So why with Hockey day in Minnesota are Gopher men’s games no longer included? I do not remember the last time they were part of Hockey day in Minnesota
I remember some whining years back that the Gophers weren’t the only college team in the state and the other teams wanted recognition too. Plus FSN wanted to fill more time by patting themselves on the back instead of showing games.

They are on BSN+ tomorrow, so everyone who gets BSN will get them. I've always considered HDM more for the high school kids and the community that hosts it.

Just wanted to get GPL'ers thoughts on this...
So Apple bought the rights for the MLS. It will be $12.99/$14.99 a month. All games. No Blackouts. No restrictions around the globe. All season tickets holders for MNUFC will get this for free.
I am not an MLS guy, so this is not for me at all... But I must say that I like the idea. Give it for free to the season ticket holders and they can watch any game, anywhere. I also love that it eliminates blackouts and restrictions.
I know this is specifically an Apple thing, but I really hope to see something like this in the future for other sports... So I am not hear to talk about the cost of it or which service it is streaming on... I am thinking more along the lines of the concept of it. How MLS is doing it differently.
Could this type of thing be the future for other leagues as well?
Right now even the ESPN+ for the NHL has restrictions and whatnot... I do not get Bally Sports North with YouTube TV and when the Wild are on TNT/ESPN and BSN at the same time... That TNT/ESPN feed gets blacked out for me and it really pisses me off. I look at the struggles of the regional Bally channels and think... How long will they be around?
I don't know... Just curious about your thoughts on something similar to what MLS is doing and I like that direction.

When I first got YoutubeTV it had a regional fox sports package I added and it had everything, which to me means gopher hockey was always covered. The last two years I have been fine with BigTen+ but if FuboTV is the way to get all the games covered I’ll sign up. I don’t know what Ballys was thinking and I’m glad they failed. Pay more for rights, charge more and limit audiences was the result. Id really like if the Regional/local media (like Frank and Wally) were allowed to cover the events the big $$ sports networks decline to cover, more on channel 9+ or channel 23 or 45. That’s a question for the negotiators who sign whatever contract is biggest $$ and the owner of the rights will get to decide what’s produced.
I just want coverage of gopher hockey, football, basketball and playoffs in same sports at any level, college or pro, and they are always covered.
I have always been an advocate for a la carte options for TV. I always thought that it would drive the overall costs down for my TV viewing. I like the direction of this, ONLY if the blackout restrictions are lifted when you buy each package. Also, I would like to see them have the team only option. If the MLB package is $200 a year, I would like the option to only buy the Twins package for $100. The NFL and NHL packages right now seem to be the most spread out. I get the NHL Center Ice, and its $70 I year. But, the Wild games are blacked out on it, so I need Ballys. If the Wild are on ESPN+, they are not part of the Center Ice package either. I just want to pay for 1 service to get all particular teams games. I would also like to get to a point in time where if I want to watch the Bills play the Dolphins in October, I can just buy that game if it is not on CBS in my market.
They just need to make things easier for the consumer. Like when the Gophers Hockey team is on BTN, they are not on BTN+, instead they are on the fox sports app. I know we are moving in the right direction, and I hope that the leagues figure out something that can work for them and the consumer at a reasonable price.
I have DirecTV, which is one of the most expensive services out there. But, I get Ballys, BTN, NHL Network and enough of the other channels to still make it worth it. If Ballys goes away, I will have to start over.
Just for a reference on current prices ( per year ) on some of the popular sports packages. They all have blackout restrictions, and no I don't get all of these or I would be broke.
NFL Sunday Ticket -- Between $300 and $400 depending on package
MLB xtra innings-- $130
NHL center ice -- $70
NBA league pass -- $100
BTN plus -- Between $30-$120 depending on subscription
ESPN + -- $99
Ballys app-- $190
There are also sporting events on Amazon Prime, Peacock and others I did not look up. I think HBO is getting into the sports broadcast business as well.

I think for MLS it makes sense, but it would never work for any major sport in America. First of all the season ticket holder BS would tick off quite a few fans who cannot afford to get season tickets. I am all for rewarding season ticket holders but they are more likely to be able to afford to pay a fee for streaming games. The average fan who can't afford tickets is probably who will have to decide whether it is worth it or not and judging by how streaming seems to be going for many sports outside of football and soccer methinks they won't be paying for it.
Second, imho it is not good revenue-wise for any of the teams that use these regional networks. Let's say Amazon buys the rights to the NHL, well that pretty much kills nationally televised games (which still are important not everyone wants to stream) and while there will likely be equal splits amongst the teams on how much they make that only really helps the teams that don't draw ratings. The teams that have strong fanbases won't be able to say, negotiate better deals because one entity controls everything. Sure the Phoenix Coyotes would benefit but the Wild likely would not. (the big market squads would really be upset)
Third, there is no chance this lasts for Apple. They are using it as a loss leader for now, but sooner or later they will either black things out or up the price significantly.
Its an interesting idea but I just don't think it is really feasible long term in professional or even college sports. The better option is to have the teams develop their own service. That likely isn't really an option either so I am not sure what to do.
My cousin lives in Seattle and is a Wild fan. For $75 (or whatever the cost is) he gets to watch almost all the Wild games.
Here in Minnesota, I have to purchase a $120+ per month cable package to watch Wild games. Minus the $70 or so cost of my You Tube TV, that is $50/month premium for watching the Wild. My dad has season tickets and is extremely irritated with the ESPN+ games that he cannot watch, and he has a premium level Xfinity package.
I gave the Bally Sports App monthly payment a shot but their App is horrendous. It is constantly crashing on me saying "This content is not available for viewing in your area" or "We are having trouble playing this media." Even mid-game some times. Halfway through a period all of the sudden the message will pop up. It works (at times) on my phone, but I cannot cast it to my TV... Since I have a Vizio, the Ballys App isn't available to download (at least that I can find) so then I have to buy a Roku stick or something to use it (More of a Vizio problem than anything else, but still annoying). It is too much effort and cost for me.
I just gave up. I am sticking with YouTubeTV for the foreseeable future and not paying for any other streaming services. If it requires jumping through 17 hoops to watch something, they must not want me to watch it that badly.
Close will be on Beyond the Pond on Saturday.

It is televised. Some have given channels. 669-1 on DTV
I have Comcast so no game tonight

@gopherhockeyfan7 Haven't found it on Xfinity but it is showing up on Bally stream.
Yeah if you get ballys you should be able to login to the stream. Do it from my cabin all the time

Do we think there will be any more Gopher games on Ballys this year? I’m thinking not and want to cancel BTN+.
I think there was discussion about there being no more Ballys games a number of weeks ago.
Ballys is done for the year.
By avoiding the first round we guarantee that both the Big Ten semi-final and championship game will both be on normal BTN.
Then all the regionals will either be on ESPNU ESPN 2 or maybe ESPN Plus if there's conflicts.
Another set of regional sports networks, AT&T sports net, are going to go dark at the end of March. They serve markets in Pittsburgh, Denver, Houston and Seattle. The one based out of Denver carries some DU and CC hockey games as well. I see more dark clouds on the horizon with RSNs.
The Colorado Rockies, Houston Astros, Pittsburgh Pirates and Seattle Mariners are set to be the four teams most affected by the announcement, given that the March 31 deadline comes before the start of the 2023 MLB season. AT&T SportsNet also has deals with the NBA's Houston Rockets, Portland Trail Blazers and Utah Jazz and the NHL's Vegas Golden Knights, Pittsburgh Penguins and Seattle Kraken. But with the end of the season quickly approaching for those teams, they’ll need only a short-term solution before the offseason.

I hope things are figured out by next hockey season and it will be a simple, easy to find the games solution. Imagine the outrage if NOT ALL of the Gophers games are available...

RSNs are gonna be dead soon...people need to prepare for it cause there is no way around it anymore. The teams and leagues will be in charge of their games which could get ugly.

Ideally all the Gopher Hockey home and all of the B1G games would be on BTN or BTN+. The non conference away games will be the tricky part. Otherwise---

Why compare them?
In addition to the channels being on different pay tiers, one is a universally carried national network and the other is only available in about a third (?) of the country without specifically paying for it. It’s comparing apples to avocados. Plus we know nobody watches college hockey
Because people wonder why BTN might not go out of their way to show games. Well when the best ratings would be lapped by reruns on ION Television that is why.
Do a lot of people here wonder about that?

It comes up all the time. Its kind of a long running joke that any time a game isn't on or is pre-empted someone around here will whine about it.

Between cable-cutters and people just not getting the sports packages (I think at least in part because of the constant issues with not getting games, persistent contract issues with entire teams being dropped for weeks or months at a time, focus changing to sports/events they don't care about, etc), I can't say I'm surprised. I suspect the cable-cutters are the biggest portion of this. This shows part of the problem with what is happening with the RSN's.
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
I suspect the cable-cutters are the biggest portion of this.
Cord cutting is certainly a significant factor, but don't underestimate how much of this was Sinclair/Bally's own doing by deciding to go to war with every content provider out there.
Basically from the moment they got control of FSN, they played hardball over rights fees with everyone. First it was Dish, then it was the various streaming services like Hulu Live and YouTube TV, and for the most part, all of the providers refused to pay up, to the point now where traditional cable is practically the only place you can watch Ballys.
It's simply not a surprise that when your channel isn't available on most services, your subscriber numbers are going to plummet.
I wonder what the numbers are for actually eyeballs cause I would think a chunk of people who have cable/DTV never watch sports.
When I had cable, you had to have the most upper tier of cable just to get the sports package. I just want the sports package. That's it. I think that's a big reason.
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
Diamond (Bally's Sports) has missed their payment to Twins and Guardians:
