Was "The Finger" game the same one where there was a fight in the handshake line? (there might be a couple of those I cant remember)
I don’t think it was even the same season but my brain don’t work as good as it used to.

Reading an online article covering Elon Musk and his off and on again banning/reinstating of Twitter accounts…the author called him out as “ behaving like a pustuous incel on a Mountain Dew bender”.
?that is one of the greatest insults ever!

I mean, if you saw the pics of him in Qatar it fits as well. $44 billion and the guy can't afford a home elliptical or something...

Tom Barnard’s last day is tomorrow. I knew his ratings were down but didn’t realize it was to 6th place.
He should have retired years ago when he was on top, IMO.

Yes they are. I had the NFL ticket for the first few years before they out priced it for me. They gave it to me for free the last 3 years for some reason. I will stick with DirecTv until they drop Bally's, then I will have to go to streaming I would guess.

I had to laugh as even the STrib story showed what a crabby old crank he is. Yeah Tom, here’s some news for you, when you become SUCH a pain in the ? to your employer (constant complaints, difficulty in getting along with people, etc) they have every right to fire you. You’re no longer a money maker so why in the world do you think they should put up with your nasty personality? You’re no longer worth the trouble or the effort.

I worked at a country club in college where he was a member and can confirm he's a miserable prick off the air as well.

I had it during the early years too. Think about how many businesses that have it will possibly drop DTV. Also, you won’t have to pay for YTTV to pay for Sunday Ticket, will be separate.
That sound you hear is clacking on keyboards as bars across the country lookup YouTube TV’s registration info.
The streaming rights for bars is unclear yet. There has been speculation that Youtube will distribute the rights for the games to be show at bars to DirecTv like Amazon does this year.
It had been believed that the new Sunday Ticket provider would sell the satellite rights to DirecTV or Dish Network. When Amazon purchased the rights to Thursday Night Football, it separately did a deal with DirecTV for bar and restaurant access to the games.

So with KQ and today is Tommy B’s last show what happens to the rest of their morning show? I do not listen to their show after Terri Train was fired
Aloha!
Since I probably stopped listening to the KQ morning show in the late ‘80s and apparently he hasn’t said anything stupid (or relevant) enough to make the news recently I had completely forgotten he was still on the air.

What’s surprising to me is the complete lack of media attention this is getting. Like him or not there’s no denying that for a long time he was one of the highest rated morning shows in America.

Lack of attention? There was an entire news story in the STrib just a day or 2 ago. The online comments are BRUTAL.

Tommy burned a lot of bridges I suspect, but the show was a must listen for me until a few years after 1991 even though it had begun to slide downward a bit earlier.
yes, there was a Strib article but when other long running media personalities have called it quits they got a lot more attention. Typically the entire week was devoted to their departureWhat’s surprising to me is the complete lack of media attention this is getting. I think SlapShot nailed it, he’s been a nasty piece of work for many years and hasn’t endured himself to anyone. Funny how ones behavior influences opinions.

It was a must listen when I was growing up. AFAIK, the only person to beat Howard Stern in the ratings in any local market, and this was when Howard was in his prime. I actually taped Howard's first show in MPLS to see what he would say.
That being said, it was the same old schtick and it became stale. Depending on my commute times after that, it was either HAMS on 93X or KFAN Power Trip (currently it's HAMS with the Randy Shaver segment). Some of it isn't Barnard's fault, he's a known introvert, and that is how his private studio came about. However, the canning of Terry Traen really rubbed some people/fans the wrong way.
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
I vaguely remember him. Never been a fan of listening to people talk on the radio. I guess that's the one weird thing about me.

For my short work commutes, I like it. For road trips? Nope, hence no podcasts/etc (except the obvious exception of the GPL podcast!).

Little Markie Rosen got engaged last week, same with Meat Sauce
Aloha!
I cannot stand listening to anything Meat Sauce is on. It makes their morning show go from sophomoric to unlistenable. I can only hope that his deal on the radio is a constant bit, because I couldn't imagine listening to him everyday...
I enjoy the HAMS segment with Randy Shaver some mornings, but only that segment, and other than that most of the morning shows are awful. A few years ago, I remember jumping in my car to go to a meeting with a female co-worker, turning on the car and on comes 93X and they are playing a game called "back or front". I couldn't turn it off fast enough, and was completely embarrassed. I don't think that co-worker ever looked me in the eyes again after that.
The KFAN morning show doesn't quite get to that level, but the constant crude jokes about sisters, and parents, etc... I thought that stuff was funny when I was 11, 25 years later... not so much. I am surprised that it is the most listened to morning show, but then again, judging by the other morning shows, I guess it isn't a high bar to clear.
I don't mind PA calling the games, but maybe that's because I don't listen to his morning show either. Common's Schtick gets so tiresome, to me, that I don't enjoy that show either. I will listen to Dan Barreiro occasionally.
KFAN is just chocked full of bits in every show. I don't mind the Power Trip when Sludge isn't pressing buttons, it really brings the entire show down to a new low. When the show can just discuss the sports takes at hand I don't mind them at all. Initials used to be fun but now it is a spelling bee plus game show...just another way for Sludge to press buttons.
Anyway, you get my drift. Each show does this insane over the top bit crap rather than just discuss the days sports takes. I don't like Barbaro because he does flirt with politics too much for my liking. I did listen to them most of the time pre-2020, now it takes something significant to have them keep my attention. I listen to crappy Mankato radio than KFAN anymore.
I am the official Iowa Hawkeye football fan of GPL!
Even back in the day, I never listened to any of KFAN's morning shows. I listened to PA & Dubay, but once that ended, so did my interest in the blowhard PA. If something from Barreiro pops across a timeline that interests me, I will go back and listen to it. I listen to mostly XM and there are a few sports podcasts that I will listen to if the subject (mostly Gopher hockey or NHL related) is good. When I'm in the tractor, all I get is local music stations that seem to play the same 10 songs over and over again.
I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.
I listened to the power trip morning show regularly for about a year and a half. It was at that point I started feeling like I’d heard all I was going to, so I gradually moved on.
I listen to the HAMS from about 7:45-8am, so when Shaver is on, and then KFAN Barreiro from 5:20-5:35 (different guests at that time, enjoy the Kessler segment, out of all of them).
As for local radio in general, it's The Current at work simply because they don't play the same 10 songs every day, days on end. I might channel surf on a road trip, but chances are, I have a bunch of MP3 discs loaded up, in case the stations suck.

We use Spotify for road trips - it's awesome and my library is so vast I almost never hear the same song twice unless I want to. Plus I can listen to it in my office, on my TV with a nice sound system for when we have guests over, etc.

If (when) I put together a CD, I do try to put everything together. I warned my passenger (and will say beforehand, your library is def deeper) to expect anything and everything. He has eclectic taste, also, and he was even WTF. All over the board.

Gopher football broadcast on KFAN is just a loud buzz sound right now, now it’s some other sports show talk not in MN

Although I don't live in the Cities, I am surprised in the ratings of some of the stations. MPR and Jack FM ranked that high, K102 and KDWB ranked that low surprises me.

The Spotify app is phenomenal and easily the best way to listen to music. The artists need to band together and fix their compensation similar to Lars standing up against Napster. Same with Ticketbastard. It would only take a chunk of the top artists threatening to pull their music off to strongarm them into fixing it.
Beating Napster was one thing but beating Pandora or Spotify would take a monumental fight that I don't think that any musician would want to undertake. The days of big music labels are gone, the big budgets for albums are gone, even big name producers are gone. Musicians can record everything on their own and then send it off to have it mixed before they release it on a streaming service.
The trend is moving towards musicians just releasing singles rather than spending time on full length albums. It will cost even less and they can release a single several times a year and keep themselves in front of their audience with new music. The only real place musicians make money is touring and merch. If you read enough music news even that is risen in cost so much that touring overseas is super costly unless you are doing the festival circuit.
Overall I do hate what Spotify has done to the radio dial and musicians. DJ's aren't a commodity anymore, people want more music and less ads and lip service. Locally here in Mankato probably the most popular morning show called it quits earlier this year because of the reduced amount of airtime they got to actually talk during their morning show. They both moved on to do a daily podcast.

I'm not saying you're wrong on the whole, but I can't think of any artists I listen to that are still currently making new music that have gone away from making albums.

I don't disagree but the artists don't always have control. They don't always own the rights to their music.
But yes the savvy artists are finding ways to make licensing costs in some capacity and good for them.
Plenty of artists have tried to take down Ticketmaster. And, well…
*gestures at everything*
John Oliver did a great piece about it that really breaks it down.

I don’t remember anyone other than Pearl Jam but both of these things are more examples of either Congress doesn’t get involved or when they do they just make it worse.
Fans need their heads examined for paying those prices and fees on Ticketmaster. There comes a time when people need common sense over their wants.
Keep your stick on the ice...
I think a lot more artists are just releasing albums on their own (or super small indie labels), and making up the costs on touring and merch. Give the music away (compared to the prices in stores/etc) and rely on word of mouth to grow and get people to go see them.
Ticketmaster is not going away until the gov't gets involved. Period. PJ tried, and failed, and that was at the peak of their existence, IMO. One of the biggest bands of the world at that time.

I probably overstated that the trend is for artists releasing singles instead of albums. Smaller artists are trending that way because little to no label help for producing and marketing. Big artists are still releasing full albums because they are popular and labels are going to make money while they can from their clients.
