College sports are no longer college sports. Paying athletes, and now free agency. Call me old fashioned but I don’t like it.

Only if you stay off my lawn.
Money rules the world and that's just the way it is. We are lucky we support a team that will benefit, whereas the Gopher football and basketball fans might not be as lucky.

The one big difference I can think of is pro sports, teams know when another players contract is up. By the rules, another college coach shouldn’t know that a player is looking to transfer until their name hits the portal. I’m sure there’s some talking behind the scenes. It just doesn’t seem like a good way to depend on a good player coming in.
Top 5 in the portal:
Ashton Calder, jr, Lake Superior State, 16-13--29
Cameron Wright, sr, Bowling Green, 13-16--29
Pierre-Luc (Pete) Veillette, jr, Lake Superior State, 13-14--27
Oliver Chau, sr, UMass, 5-22--27
Grant Cruikshank, jr, Colorado College, 8-2--10
With Koepke, Jackson Cates & most likely Noah Cates signing early, besides Casey Gilling of Miami, I’d expect tUMD to be active in the transfer portal, along with bringing back some bonus year seniors ☝️

Would be great, but where does the feeling come from? My top 5 is not in any order and he is likely the best player in there right now.

Always liked his game. Been watching condensed CC games on NCHC app. He’ll bring a lot, his shot is very good. Don’t think we’ll see him over pass too often

His 3rd team now. Drafted in the 6th round by Detroit. Big kid, coming off a knee injury.

Two more impact players
Because they got a kid from Lake State?
They picked up two of the top five returning goal scorers, a proven goalie, and a solid defensemen. They bring back probably the best d-man in the nation. They have been by far the transfer portal winner and they might not be done.
They'll be up in the top five again.

I mean just cause they’re in the market for way more players doesn’t make them the winner. They had a lot more to replace than us. We only had one acquisition to make and we arguably made the best single grab yet. Everyone in the nation, especially Whioux fans, were salivating over Cruikshank.
Also I don’t think they will be top 5 next year but our opinions on next year in April really mean squat.

Where did I compare them to us? We will be contenders, too. They are the winners of the portal just because they got more good players and other teams only needed one or two. It's like how the recruiting rankings for college football gets skewed by having more commitments. That doesn't make us any less of a contender, and I've been saying UMN and UM are the top two contenders.
5th round pick of Arizona scored 3 points for Tech as a freshman last year going to BADgers.
Denver picks up a scorer.

Why were people "salivating" over Cruikshank? I think he will be a solid addition, but his 0.5 ppg game isn't putting him in Hobey contention.
As a fan of one of these smaller programs, I think this gnashing of teeth is a bit ridiculous. The vast majority of these guys that are moving are seniors that wouldn't have been there next year anyway if the COVID year didn't exist. From what I've seen most of these guys are being forced to go from their programs, not because they aren't good enough, but because they would have to potentially push back recruits coming in. And some of those recruits coming in are aging out of junior. Those schools that have older teams boxed themselves in on this (granted it was unexpected and you can't plan for an NCAA reaction to a pandemic) and they could have kept those guys if they wanted to but their schools said no. This is a temporary problem and won't be happening in a couple years.
A little catching up here.
