Spartans are going to be legit this year.
Edit: someone already posted this in Opponent Recruiting whoops
Aloha!
Phil?
What I thought of too
with the odds on favorite to win the hobey next year now going to play in Phoenix, who are the "best" couple players in college hockey?
If Hutson avoids a sophomore slump I’d assume he’s one of the front runners
Hutson, Brindley, Snuggerud, Celebrini
Hutson, Snuggerud and Colin Graf from Quinnipiac is my pre season Hobey Hat Trick
Snuggy, Closer, Moore and Chesley ?
I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.
Anybody else curious to see how Snuggy produces without Cooley? They've played together for so long and had such good chemistry, it was special to watch. I hope I'm wrong, but I wouldn't be surprised if Snuggy has a drop in production this year.
Assuming he plays with Moore the talent drop off won’t be too severe if at all. I think it’s Knies he’ll miss the most. Knies did so many things for that line that didn’t get on the scoresheet. He created so much space for Cools and Snugs to operate.

If Kurth can take the next step, he seems like he can fit into the Knies role as the power forward on the line.

Kurth scored at will in juniors, putting up Kloos and Rem Pitlick numbers. I’m hoping he can put up 12+ in an elevated role this year. Obviously he won’t be close to what Knies was last year but if everyone gets better by committee they can chip away at those 102 points they lost with 89 & 92.
Kurth should have a huge year. I don’t see many weaknesses in his game.

Skating is his weakness, and why he was a 6th round pick.

Sat next to a Tampa Bay scout at the 2nd UND game last season. Told him they were lucky to get Kurth so late given his stats in juniors. The guy agreed that they got a steal and said they were excited to see how he developed.

Union is no longer the "Dutchmen" They're now the "Garnet Chargers"

Yes, I checked the calendar, it's not the 1st of the month, and it's definitely not April.
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
Yeah, that rolls off the tongue. WTF?
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
The college where I went to changed their mascot name from the Flying Dutchmen to the Dutch back in the mid 90's. That coincided with the change in the name of the college from Central University of Iowa to Central College.
Dutchmen to Garnet Chargers is definitely WTF moment though.
I am the official Iowa Hawkeye football fan of GPL!

Seems obvious. You have a small upstate New York school with a liberal student body that hates…..
Not sure where else to put this, but out of UCLA, USC, Washington and Oregon, who adds hockey first?
Illinois. Maybe Iowa. ?

My guess is USC or UCLA.
Isn’t USC be of the few schools that Minnesota has an overall losing record against? Seems like I read they lost a couple of games against them in the 1920’s

Come on USC get a D1 team we want REVENGE!!!!!
Minnesota has played Southern California 4 time(s) in their history and their overall record is 0-4-0. |

Their teams already have cool jerseys. https://twitter.com/AlexMicheletti/status/1687583479570026496
Not a fan of the Ducks there, but UCLA/USC are certainly both solid. Both look like just good classic hockey unis.

So basically not a fan of the Duck? The colors are green and gold like the North Stars.
Mostly the Duck, yeah.So basically not a fan of the Duck? The colors are green and gold like the North Stars.
The Edina-like colors don't do it any favors either, though

In related news: Steve just sent a strongly worded email to the Big Ten demanding that Oregon's acceptance be conditional on them changing their nickname and colors.
I initially didn’t like the duck, but it has grown on me already. Cartoony logos are awesome. Give it a few decades and it’s classic. Plus, it’s Oregon of course it’ll be odd.

Nice juxtaposition of the McDonald's logo with the USC uni. Given the colors, it fits.

I figured the cause was being a jackwagon.
Yeah but at Michigan that isn't due cause that is just their normal way of being. ?

Oh no. ?
From Charley Walters this weekend:
“A Gophers men's hockey player has turned down a $75,000 NIL deal from an eastern university to play without NIL help to win a national championship at Minnesota.”
https://www.twincities.com/2023/08/19/charley-walters-vikings-talks-with-hockenson-could-get-tricky/
I don't think this wording is quite right... but national signing day is November 8 and $75k is an aggressive bid for a recruit in the college hockey landscape where no one has much of a bankroll in NIL yet.
Interesting to see who landed a lot of verbal commits early in the most recent cycle and wonder if there's a connection.
A current player, or a recruit? If it's a recruit for the 2023 season it obviously has to be Moore. If the following season I'm guessing it is Eiserman and one of the Boston schools.
“Why did you want to play college hockey?”
“Isn’t it obvious? For the NIL money.”
“Well I wanted to win a national championship!”
So this player chooses Minnesota. Gotta love it!
