My bold prediction is he’s gone by Christmas. They’re last series of the first half is here in Dinkytown. That could be ugly. Worse than last year maybe if Moe doesn’t stand on his head.
How well is an abysmal first half capped off by a slaughter in Minnesota gonna sit in Madison. I guess that’s up to Barry Alvarez.

You mean Chris McIntosh. Alvarez retired a little over a year ago.

Yes that’s right. We’ll see if Chris has more respect for the hockey program than Barry did.

Lots of interesting replies on that one.
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?

To be fair, I definitely was still calling their program "Barry Alvarez's hockey team" last year since he was the chief architect of the smashing success they are currently enjoying.

I certainly did not expect Grant Cruikshank to have 8 goals in 10 games. That is crazy.
Same. He already surpassed his goal tally from last year.
I assume he's gotta be up there, along with Fantilli, for most points thus far?

Fantilli averaging 2 per game so far

Well, as disappointed as I am that it didn't happen here, I'm glad Cruikshank has found success on a good team. That kid deserved better than the hand he was dealt.

He got a good opportunity at Minnesota, didn't work out for whatever reason. He got dealt a fair hand.
Still... very interesting to see him do well this year and agree good for him.

Sorry, I meant the hand he was dealt before he came here. I'm sure he enjoyed his time at CC under Haviland, but it always seemed like the wilderness compared to what he could have had at Wisco had things turned out differently.
Though given how things have turned out for Wisco, maybe it's a good thing that they snubbed him. He certainly isn't crying about getting at least a point in each of the 4 games he's played against them.

I didn't realize you could go back to USHL after you signed and played at the D1 program.
Keep your stick on the ice...

Plenty have done it. As long as you’re young enough it’s okay

Very early stages of something brewing in Wisconsin. We can all see it coming. Not saying either of those guys will leave but clearly those USHL teams heard through an agent or someone else that anything’s possible.
If Stramel does leave that’d be a target for Bob.
I'm not sure how likely Stramel would be to leave. His buddy from Rosemount, Whitelaw, just signed this week. Would think if he planned to leave he would have told his buddy not to sign.
I'm still shocked that Skahan picked Wisconsin. I know there are a lot of positives about going to UW as it's a college town with a lot of tradition, great facilities/support and a coach who talks a big pro development game... but their performance on the ice without Caufield is just shocking.
Two juggernauts Long Island and Wisconsin do battle tonight. Should set an attendance record with negative fans.

Minnesota will not have much more than that game in Madison.

Duluth especially has been bad so far this year. ?

Every program has its dark years. I've been watching college hockey for more years than I care to reveal, and I can't recall WI ever being this far down.
Is this their low-water mark as a program?
There is no way the coaching staff can (or should) survive this. They have no chance to compete his season and if ever a mid-season coaching change is warranted, it's this season.

Agreed. It’s bad enough that it has die hard Gopher fans clamoring for a change in coaching. College hockey is more fun when Wisconsin is good. Not to mention the Big Ten is better.

Well, the unbiased PxP guy for DUHluth claims the refs once again gave the game to Omaha. DUHluth should be undefeated, the the refs from the best conference in the universe always seems to screw them. ?

Underrated is a good ole college hockey Saturday when your team doesn’t play. Can sit back and watch the madness.
WI had a year where they only won 3-4 games right before Danato no?
I remember a certain former poster here basically saying the Gophers should shut our program down because we wouldn’t be able to compete with Granato and his staff.

They were 4-26-5 in 2014-2015. They beat Ferris State, Michigan Tech, Ohio State, and Michigan State. They finished 55th of 59 in the pairwise just ahead of powerhouses Princeton, Army, Niagara, and AIC.
Eaves got to stay on for another season after.
Here is how the former Gopher portal players are doing--
Cruikshank-- 9 goals 5 assists in 11 games for SCSU
Perbex-- 1 goal and 6 assists in 12 games for Western Mich
Sorenson-- 4 goals and 2 assists in 10 games for Alaska
Broz-- 1 goal and 1 assist in 11 games for Denver
Brinkman-- zero points in 9 games for the Irish
Moe-- 3 wins 6 losses 2.94 GAA and a 919 SV% for BADgers
Boynton-- Not played in a game for AIC
Non portal Cruz Lucius-- 4 goals and 3 assists for the BADgers
Lucius parents-- Extra 550 round trip miles to Madison for every home game for spite

I didn't have Cruikshank becoming one of the best players in the country on my bingo card
Imagine how good last year’s team could’ve been if Cruikshank played like this
I’m not ready to blame it all on him, nor Bob/Gophers. Sometimes the pieces just don’t mesh. That said, yes the numbers he’s putting up now would have been very welcome.
SCSU just OWNING WMU tonight. Fox9+, so I can actually watch the game.

With the way points are, I do not like the work "spilt" at all in this case.
Michigan earned 4pts and Notre Dame earned 2pts. So not a split in my mind.

True. I don’t think there’s a word for a 4/2. A texas split? It’s a split on paper at least (record wise)
Granato looks genuinely disinterested in this game

Yeah, it looks like the "just don't get injured" look, except this isn't an exhibition or a meaningless third place game.

Broz not exactly lighting the world on fire.
Boynton not cracking AIC lineup...oof.
And Moe, well, it's not on him, really. That whole team is a dumpster fire right now (objectively).

Moe's SV% is pretty amazing when you consider the dumpster fire in front of him. I imagine they're getting out-shot pretty regularly.
A 92% save percentage is nothing to sneeze at. Feels like if you put enough at it, something will sneak in.
I remember when Granato was hired and everyone thought they would be playing for national championships. Good times...

That's why I always felt that GAA was very misleading. "4 goals against?!" Well, if that's on 50 shots a game, that's pretty good.
