Very interested to see how he recruits for that team
Well he won't need to recruit geriatrics at least.
That's the hope, but I've always wondered what a team might look like if a coach tried to mix in a few blue chippers with a Mankato type of roster? I personally wouldn't want to watch it, but I bet that a team like that would be successful. Jeff Jackson did something kind of like it at Lake St in the 90's
Is he gonna turn down “blue chippers” to bring in 21 year old freshman?
Didn't realize how many Kato fans you would have to talk off the ledge! Then the news of the money came out and they became salty. Hastings move was 100% money. Don't blame him since he was maxed out on his contract here. Now the speculation of whether Knott is given the job, some Kato fans believe he is going with Hastings. I told some friends to call some of their close Jan Brady friends to ask them how to cope with the loss of their coach.
I am theofficial Iowa Hawkeye football fan of GPL!
Heard a great line on the radio this morning, a guy on WCCO said it was from some buddies in a text group.
"Hastings decided to leave Mankato because he was sick of hearing from the wives & children of his players."
Another answered, "....grandchildren, too."

If it were a player of the year award I think Fantilli should probably get it. However, it isn't.
There are four criteria against which nominees for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award are considered:
Strength of character, on and off the ice
Contribution to the integrity of the team and outstanding skills in all phases of the game
Scholastic achievement and sportsmanship
Compliance with all NCAA rules, including being a full-time student in an accredited college or university and completing 50 percent or more of the season
Exactly
I listened to the first half CHN podcast for the first time and I was shocked at its lack of depth overall.
For example, related to this topic, the hosts spent a considerable amount of time, not just ignoring the criteria, but redefining what the criteria are — essentially making it the offensive player of the year. They focused on that Fantilli may not because of "one penalty" where he "got punched first". Then they compared it to Baseball HOF, which it isn't.
Apparently Woden thinks the best way to get out of a hole is to keep digging.

I've got to agree with Starman on this (as painful as that is to say). I think the Hobey is (and should be) different than just a Player of the Year award. If that's not going to be the case, that's OK, but definitely make it clear what the criteria actually are.
If it IS just POTY, then yeah, Fantilli wins, hands down. If it's more than POTY, then I think Knies gets it.
@steve-mn I agree 100%. If the voters truly take a look and do the research on each of the final 3, Knies has a shot. If they strictly look at the stats and highlights from TV, unfortunately Fantilli will win easily. As I have said before, Leopold won because he was the complete player and the scouts who vote for the Hobey loved him. Starman is more in communication with the scouts, so on this I think he has a valid point. ( and like you, I'm not normally a Starman fan ) Woden is someone who's thinks his opinion is always right and no one dare question him.

I am pretty sure the viertes know the criteria so these two clowns whining are basically just clickbaiting. They are trying to create controversy that isn't there.

Athletic department called donors last night to calm nerves, said it was Knott's job if he wants it. Seems there is a slight chance he may join Hastings in Madison. If he does that, my opinion only, he can kiss his head coaching aspirations in the near future goodbye.
I expect Fantilli to win, and don't have a problem with it. That being said, I think Knies has a very legit chance at winning this. Personally, I just think its awesome the Gophers got 2 of the 3.

Posting on my phone at work devuelto makes me sound like Kevin...
My vote would go to Fantilli. I also hate him and think he’s a total d bag. Both can be true.
Eichel didn’t win it because of his stellar sportsmanship and character.
Eichel lead his conference in scoring. The only argument for Fantilli is that he was really good at running up numbers against bad teams.
Cooley is the best player in college hockey
Right now Cooley is the best...but I wouldn't give him Hobey. I personally wouldn't give it to Fantilli either but if either win I would hardly bat an eye.

Correct opinion.
Consider where Cooley is now and the fact he actually started the season fairly slowly. IMO Snuggerud was the better freshman for the first quarter of the season. Now Cooley may be the best player in college hockey.
Crazy take I know but my vote would go to LaCombe. MN is unbelievably solid at the blue I seriously think he's the straw that stirs the drink for MN, when I found out he was returning my expectations increased exponentially. Might be our best D since Leo.

I also think he will have the biggest impact from this team at the next level.
personally I think this good news for the gophers and the rest of the BIG. Michigan could have whoever they want and they took a guy who has been so so on keeping the team focused with all the talent in the world. You know what they say about offering a guy a huge contract for one run.
Wouldn’t it be funny if the first thing he did as full time coach is lose to Quinnipiac in the Frozen Four. I’d chuckle. I also really want to see them play the Gophers in the title game, so…?♂️

The Strength of Schedule is elite for Michigan & Minnesota. IMO, it is hard to discount Fantilli's #s vs those of Knies & Cooley due to SOS.
Strength of Schedule Rank
Minnesota #2
Michigan #3
Below are the stats for the overall season and just the B1G season. Fantilli #s per game are the best but the gap is smaller for the B1G season vs the overall #s. To me Fantilli has a strong Hobey case when it comes to the #s/on ice performance, whether he wins comes down to how much weight do the other factors get.

That's a pretty wild statement. I'm not sure I really see it with LaCombe in the NHL. Cooley is easily the best NHL prospect on the team, but even among the D I think Faber and Johnson will be better NHLers.

I think LaCombe has the best chance of the 3 dmen to become a "star". I also think he is the most likely to not become an NHL regular. I think Johnson and Faber will end up being very similar to Brady Skjei. I see both playing a lot of games in the NHL.
Out of this year’s d core I can see Faber, Johnson, LaCombe, Chesley, Mittelstadt having legit NHL careers. Add Thomas to that list after a solid 4 year career. Koster will need to work on a couple things but it’s definitely a possibility. He’s a helluva college player.

Imagine how good our schedule would be if we could play ourselves 4 times a year?

Leo talked about organizing an alumni trip to the Frozen Four and forming an alumni organization. Really sounds like the reception to that is really good. It certainly is something that is long overdue and will ultimately help the program.

That's fair, I think you're probably right.
Johnson and Faber can have long careers as players similar to Brodin…quietly steady. LaCombe can be an impact offensive defensemen. He’s deadly on that stretch outlet pass and can be an excellent PP QB. Could also excel with all the 3x3 OT NHL teams play.
