BIG chunk of ice along the boards they are repairing at the outdoor game. Hope this is taken care of fairly quickly....

Oh, look, it's the Mistake by the Lake
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
If the ice won’t stay down, yeah this won’t be over before the Gophers start.
Edit: Intermission starts now with almost five minutes left in the second.
the ice looks absolutely fucked along the boards.
And, another huge chunk of ice just pulled out. I didn't have the audio up, guessing they're going to intermission early and spend some real time getting the ice "fixed" ?

I really hope they will have an alternate channel plan to show our game.
Fred Pletsch during the first period: “the ice looks about as good as I’ve ever seen in an outdoor game.” DOH!

Their hands are kinda tied. All they can offer is BTN plus.

Yep. It also seems like the intermission is longer than the standard one for the B1G this year.

Yeah, I think they’re talking a full 20.
Warming up the Fox Sports app again.

I'm afraid we are going to have to fire up the inter web to watch the beginning of the Gopher game. Since it is a BTN game, it will be on the Fox sports app I believe.

osu all over michigan again tonight
edit: and just like that a fluky goal and michigan back in it
Though I'm still not a fan of outdoor games in football and baseball stadiums, being part of the ice crew for something like this must be fun, even with these headaches.
I wonder how feasible it would have been to have this game in Toledo, OH given that city's significance to the rivalry.

They should have played this game as a non conference game so it would not have any affect on the standings.

They have showed a picture of 6’6” Portillo out of the ice next to his dad, who appears to be two inches taller. Big dudes.
Fixing the ice….again
Ohio State takes 5 of 6 points over the weekend against Michigan and wins the season series 2-1-1 taking 8 of 12 conference points.
The two teams are now tied for second place in the Big Ten.
RIT loses to Bentley. Makes it much more likely a UND or UMD who gets on a run will slot in as the 15 seed rather than 16. Obviously some other very dark horse team could end up 16th, but a beneficial game for those looking at the PWR and being concerned we could see either of those 2.
UND and UMD both have a 5% or less chance of getting in although that's before the end of tonight's results are in.

UMD has to win out just to get over .500
Keep your stick on the ice...
BU has now lost 4 straight games and Northeastern has taken over first place in Hockey East with each team having 4 regular season games left.
The Hockey East playoffs are only two weeks all single elimination games.
Northeastern might win the Hockey East regular season title and not make the NCAA tournament. Non conference loses to Union, Sacred Heart, and Bentley are a big reason they are currently 15th in Pairwise.
If Michigan State loses to Wisconsin tonight Northeastern will likely move up to 14.
Cornell this weekend lost home games to Clarkson and St. Lawrence (who are currently #30 and #29). This dropped Cornell from #11 to #16 in Pairwise. They will likely move back up a spot to #15 if Michigan State loses tonight.
St. Cloud and North Dakota tied tonight. This is now 6 games in a row without a win for St. Cloud (3 ties and 3 loses). They have won all three of shoot outs.
But taking only 7 of 18 conference points over the last three weekends has dropped them to 4th place in the NCHC.
Ya blew it Sparty. That’s a shot to your pairwise.
St. Cloud in free fall but their pairwise keeps moving up.
What are the odds the Big10 3 stars of the week are Knies, Cooley, Snuggerud?
The first two are locks. We’ll see if Snuggy can squeak in with 2G 2A on the weekend?
Ya blew it Sparty. That’s a shot to your pairwise.
With Sparty off next week, and only 3 points ahead of Notre Dame and Penn St, they could easily fall to 6th place in the conference.

North Dakota gained no ground in the NCHC standing against St. Cloud this weekend (each team picked up 3 points during their weekend series) leaving them 12 points behind 4th place St. Could with each team having four conference games left.
It looks like the Sue will be on the road for NCHC first round.
St. Cloud in free fall but their pairwise keeps moving up.
That's because BU and Penn State are picking up loses and St. Could has gotten some ties. BU was 3rd a couple of weeks ago they are now 9th.

I have it finishing:
1. Minnesota (yes I know shocking)
2. Michigan
3. Ohio State
4. Penn State
5. Michigan State
6. Notre Dame
7. Wisconsin
College Hockey News dot com currently shows Cansius beating Sacred Heart 6-4 tomorrow. ?
Talk about a rigged game.

It certainly could end this way but since Penn State is only 5 points behind Ohio State and gets to play Wisconsin at home next weekend who has lost 20 straight regular season road Big Ten conference games (19 of the 20 in regulation) they have a great chance to pick up 6 points next weekend and pass Ohio State since the Buckeyes have to play the best team in college hockey.
Penn State has to show me they can win 2 games in a weekend first. Or does Wisconsin have to show me they can win a road game? Unstoppable force meets immovable object?

Wisconsin now has 1 conference win against every team except Penn State. Each other conference team split with UW in Madison and swept them at their respective homes.
PSU swept UW in Madison earlier this year. UW travels to PSU next weekend.
Maybe not such a bad loss for the Gophers?

With 5 out of 6 vs Michigan some OSU player will get one. Maybe Dobes.

Yes. But, I believe his point was that if one of them gets hot and wins the NCHC conference tournament their pairwise will be better than RITs. Which would leave RIT as the 16 seed (barring other weird conference upsets)

If RIT currently at 22 does not end up the 16 I'm not otherwise worried about who else might be - especially in a one and done tournament.
Here is how thinks look now for the NCAA tournament.
#1 Minnesota vs. #22 RIT
#8 Ohio State vs. #9 Boston University
#4 Denver vs. #15 Cornell
#5 St. Cloud vs. #12 Mankato
#2 Quinnipiac vs. #14 Northeastern
#7 Penn State vs. #10 Harvard
#3 Michigan vs. #13 Omaha
#6 Western Michigan vs. #11 Michigan Tech
#13 Omaha, #14 Northeastern & #15 Cornell were all swapped to avoid conference opponents playing in the first round (Denver vs. Omaha, Quinnipiac vs. Cornell)
This is not a good year to have three regionals out east with Hockey East likely to only get two teams.
Notre Dame is currently #16 and Michigan State is #17. In order for either to make it as an at large team they will likely need to win at least the best of three Big Ten quarter final round and maybe a semi final game too.
Notre Dame has more of a chance to move up since they play next weekend while Michigan State has a bye. Playing at Michigan gives the Irish a chance to definitely move up with a sweep but winning twice at Yost is certainly a tough task.
Michigan State played themselves out of the top 16. All they had to do was sweep Wisconsin and they were sitting pretty. They’ll likely have a shot at either Penn State, Ohio State or Michigan, which are all good chances to move up the pairwise. Same with Notre Dame.
I want the Big 10 to send 5 teams otherwise we run the risk of sending 4 just like the NCHC who has Omaha getting hot at the right time.
This coming weekend should be a lot of fun. 10 of the top 16 teams play each other.
#1 Minnesota vs. #8 Ohio State
#3 Michigan vs. #16 Notre Dame
#4 Denver at #6 Western Michigan
#5 St. Cloud at #13 Omaha
#11 Michigan Tech at #12 Mankato

Wild... This is every Western team in the top 16 except PSU.

Nope their opponents this weekend are just slightly out of the top 16 at #42 & #50. ?
I’m conflicted on Quinnipiac. On the one hand their schedule is a joke but it’s not their fault they’re in the ECAC. Regardless of opponents only having 3 losses is impressive.
If they crumble in the tourney tho I wouldn’t be surprised.

Remember a school called "Union?" Just saying.
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
The handful of cheesedicks still on USCHO seem convinced TG will get canned this year and uw will target Mike Hastings.
Will be interesting to follow in the offseason, especially curious if Hastings would have any interest in leaving Mankato where he's build a heck of a program for a program where he doesn't (I don't think so at least) have any connections. Could be a similar scenario to MN unsuccessfully wooing Sertich here in '84 or '85.
