Let the early signings begin.
Just finished his Sophomore year and was their leading scorer.

Heard it straight from a players mouth this weekend, a Maverick will be signing as soon as their season is over.

Not feeling too concerned about the Gopher early departure thread heating up. Not sure if that's good or bad...

I think that's because we'll have approx. 6 weeks before we have to worry about any departures :dup: :dup:
Ranta is the only gopher I can think of that's even remotely a risk...I just can't see him as ready

Since when has readiness been the criterion?

To be fair, 'early' in that the season's not over yet even though Wisco and Notre Dame's are.

To me early means they still have eligibility left. These guys don't.
Those are not early departures.

1st BADger to fall---

I have to think that whatever happens with coronavirus will impact signings. If the NHL season cancels then no need for as many recruits, right? Is least it might delay signings until late summer.
Safety first. Wash your hands and stay home if you can.

That's a shame.
I know. It hit me hard too.
BTW -- thought it was interesting in Corey Pronman's chat on The Athletic this week he was asked if Caulfield should make the jump to the NHL now with Wisconsin's season being over. He suggested that he'd rather Caulfield head to Laval. Interesting perspective on UW from a prospect writer who talks to a lot of scouts. Now Montreal's GM has said on the record that Caulfield should stay in Madison.
I sense he's going to win B10 ROY, but despite being the second leading drafted freshman scorer in the country... he was still -3.
I don't think wings are necessarily always at fault for having a bad minus total, but despite his tremendous talent in the offensive zone, he gives away the puck a lot too.

I am a little shocked he cut his time in Madison short. Hopefully he will grow into his role on another team.
I'm done now.

I would have interest in Dhooghe. Eligible right away, probably an upgrade over Burke, Wait. Bring him in with Pitlick. Send Nevers and Huglen back to juniors. I’m sure we planned on bringing in Huglen, his injury has really lagged on. Never seen someone out so long from an injury that occurred during workout
Dhoogie would fit in at UND...I would never bring that little dink here.

The Gophers have had dinks before. Why not this specific dink?
It's not his dinkiness I have a problem with...it's that his name is "Dhooghe" and that he has a red stain that won't wash off.

Seems like a lot of people here are selling Dhooghe short.

LOL. If this was a few years ago, I would be more open to it, but I think our forward depth is ok. He would only slot in a bottom 6 or SMALLER role on this team. He does remind me of Cepis. A pest and an agitator though. The other question, will he be able to play next year as a transfer like Phillips, or would he have to sit out a year like most transfers do. Not worth the roster spot.

I believe either Jup or Vegoe mentioned on the podcast that Dhooghe has already graduated (or is on track to graduate this semester), so he would be eligible immediately.

Could nickname him "Dino", as in "Dino Dhooghe".

I asked Todd Milewski about his status. Todd said he was unsure about the grad transfer thing, but he did say the NCAA may be considering a free 1 time transfer rule without penalty. I had never heard of that before, so good to know. Also, props to Todd for answering my question to him. He seems like a really nice guy, and I have always enjoyed his appearances on the GPL Podcast and his articles about college hockey.

Just finished his Jr year at Kato. 1st of a few early departures for them I would guess.

Getting a college hockey team hasn't really helped Arizona State's reputation as a safety school.
Hopefully for Mackey's sake, the NHL comes back in some capacity this year and he's able to burn a year on his contract--and he plays well enough that that is to his benefit--because he was getting promised that before all of this happened.
I'd be (pleasantly) surprised if anyone else from MSU leaves early. Lots of great college hockey players, but not many pro prospects.

The only other one that I think could leave is nathan smith. At the beginning of the year, there was a potential he could be a one-and-done, but he was kind of underwhelming and his immaturity showed at various points in the season

Were you standing behind me a couple weeks ago when I was having that exact conversation with a friend at a game? He seemed like he had a fast rising trajectory early in the season, but he just found himself out a place and making mistakes in every game at the end.
