Here is the bracket... Let's get some discussion going.

All the 2-3 games feel like toss ups (even Maine vs Cornell with how all over the place Maine has been). Would say the 4s it's WMU with by far the best chance and I'd put RIT and MTU as <5% chances of winning. UMass in theory will have the home crowd to try stir them on (and there should be good plenty of Maine fans there) so maybe gives them a little more hope.

I notice it can not be an all Big Ten Frozen Four. Can't be a FF of any one league.

That is due to a tourney a few years ago. NCAA actively tries to avoid a repeat scenario.

2005. The Frozen Four was basically the Final Five all over again, without the play-in game that Wisconsin lost.
I wish I had the picture, but there was a caricature of a milk carton that said “have you seen us?” with all of the other conference logos on it. I had an 8x11 photo of that taped to the car window on our drive to that 2005 WCHA Frozen Four. It garnered some interesting looks from folks passing by. 😂
Yep, after that they’ve made sure to be careful to avoid that scenario again.
Maybe someday I’ll dig through the old photo albums buried in tote bins in the closet, I might have a picture of it somewhere…
I didn’t realize the arena in sioux falls was over 10K.
and the whoosies have to fight for scraps in a 3k seat arena.

B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
I see a lot of people on here writing off RIT already. I’ve heard a lot of college hockey minds say RIT is a dangerous 4 seed and may put whatever 1 seed they play on upset watch.
I remember reading an article (no idea when?) that the NCAA was not getting a lot of interest to host regionals so they maybe didn't have any other options for this year? Maybe @eric-vegoe can provide more color to my memory and speculation. 😎
Regardless it's a curious choice.

who was the stupid one who allowed to have this location with only 3k seats?

There should be limits on how many years in a row or four year cycle, one school can host. (Yeah, you know whioux I’m talking about). 😆
This made me laugh pretty good.

I think the problem is a lack of people that want to host. You're sticking your neck out financially. There should be limits on how many years in a row or four year cycle, one school can host. (Yeah, you know whioux I’m talking about). 😆
I know this is getting wayyyyyy ahead of myself but it’ll be nice not having to face BC until the final.
How about a Maine Minnesota NC rematch at the X.
What a game!

It's a few months out of date now, but I had a good chuckle when KARE 11 was covering the Tommies men's basketball road win over UND back in December. Despite the bright green "NORTH DAKOTA" and "FIGHTING HAWKS" on court, KARE 11 still said NDSU both verbally and in their onscreen text multiple times.

Some western schools have been trying to sneak in a campus site bid instead of putting it at theses USHL type rinks.
What I don't get is let's say the Gophers finally decided to bid again and host at the X.
Is it really not advantageous for Minnesota to play there because they have to use someone else's locker room and take a bus 10 miles?
Stupid question, but would Ridder be able to host a men's regional given that its not the Gopher Men's team home arena and that the 5k seat capacity rule is flexible?

From what I’ve heard the X, like many other NHL barns, are not interested.

I get that - I'm not asking why the X doesn't host I'm questioning the logic behind the rule that says on campus venues offer a greater advantage automatically. 1) There's no guarantee the host team qualifies and 2) in the case of say the Gophers they'd still have an advantage if the X hosted and they played there.

I'm pretty sure they're talking about regionals, not the Frozen Four.

I was talking with @mnrouser Could the Gophers put in a bid at the Amsoil or Down in Kato to be host. Neither are on campus. Also why dont the Gophers put in a bid in Fargo sometime?

The U probably doesn’t think they’d make enough money.
How would you feel if Umd or St. Clown was hosting a regional at Mariucci? 🤷♀️

I don't think you can bid there as it's still a "home arena" for someone. Putting in a bid in Fargo probably is a logistical nightmare for a University that has no presence in that city (and it's still likely you get placed there even if you don't host). It would be nice for fans ahead of time if we know we're hosting for buying tickets, but it's not like they've been hard to come by now (the Gopher season ticket holder group must've gone well to the end as I got my tickets and I'm WAAAAY down the list and there are plenty still available online)

From what I have gathered from listening to and reading up on the regional process from people a lot smarter than I am about this, part of the problem is the amount of money that the host schools must pay to the NC$$ as a host. If you notice some regionals are hosted by a school and a city's tourism department. Other schools, like North Dakota, are more willing to take on the risk on their own and are fairly confident that their school will be there or like last year, have schools like Minnesota there with their traveling fan base. There also is a lot of work that goes into hosting a regional, staffing etc, and I think if the NC$$ would drop the amount of the guaranteed fee that may help with getting more regional hosts. Maybe do a revenue split on the back end.
As far as the Maryland Heights regional, what I have heard/read is that the St Louis Sports commission was willing to write the check knowing that 2500 tickets sold would not cover the fee and is using the regional as a trial run for them hosting the Frozen Four.

I always thought Des Monies Iowa where the USHL team plays 3500 seats.

St. Louis hosted in 2007 - why would they need a "trial run"?

I think the two biggest hurdles Mankato faces in hosting regionals is the lack of nearby hotel space and the lack of locker room space. The Civic Centers visitor locker rooms are a joke even when they host a squirt tournament let alone a college hockey team. Think of a run of the mill locker room at your local hockey rink and that is what the Civic Center has for visitor locker rooms.

yep. 150k guarantee for the NCAA followed by NCAA taking 80% to your 20% after that. For example, even the arena is sold out in Sioux Falls at capacity of 10600, at the 100/ticket (we're going to round for sake of easy math, real number is more like 80 with then ticketmaster fees and shit to get to 100) you make 2.1million gross (100/ticket x2 sessions) and that's avoiding that the NCAA themselves takes a bunch of tickets for their own suites, attendants, etc; that sounds awesome but then you subtract the immediate 150k for the NCAA and have ~2million that the NCAA will take 1.6million of, leaving you with 400k. Now you have to advertise, pay many someones to do the planning, travel there, pay to use the facility, etc. to get that small of a maximal profit provided the people are working for free (they aren't).
make that arena the 5k that Scheels holds and your gross (because the NCAA sets the price evenly) comes down to 1million, which the NCAA still takes 150k of then 80% of what's left over and you're left with a profit of 170k. You can't make that money work and that's only if you're selling out.
what I have heard/read is that the St Louis Sports commission was willing to write the check knowing that 2500 tickets sold would not cover the fee and is using the regional as a trial run for them hosting the Frozen Four.

Just what some people have said. Maybe, because it was 17 years ago and commission members have changed or the way the NCAA has changed what they expect from the host?
