Its easy to say that when it isnt a possibility and things aren't terrible on your end. But if in a couple years this guy isn't winning enough and Hastings wants out of Sconnie and wants to come back they would not only have to consider it but likely would swallow their pride and do it.
Well...this is the same athletic department that brought back the football coach after they fired him, he got a job at a different school, criminal charges were dismissed, and to avoid a legal battle MSU hired him back. Soooo...I guess never say never.

It is now official.

Duluth is a train wreck. They were down 6-0 at home tonight. The Sue then got chippy and gave the Bulldogs four straight 3rd period power plays. The game ended 7-3. The Bulldogs got three power play goals and the Sue got a shorthanded goal.
@collegehockeyaddict No sugar coating it…they certainly are. Falling behind 6-0 at Amsoil this stage of the season is completely unacceptable. The coaches need to look closely in the mirror. The team has been a BUST since Fall of 2022, after being a force for over a decade. Something is fragmented that the coaches have failed to address appropriately.
More of the same for Duluth tonight down 3-0 at home after one period.
Ever see the movie "Old Yeller?" 😉
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.

hold up. Those were pretty unique circumstances around that football coach.
I don't know any specifics on this, but from the statement... Got fired because he was facing criminal charges, then the charges were flat out dropped (not going to trial and found not guilty, but simply dropped?). If that understanding is correct, then the firing might have been wrongful termination, so hiring back makes sense. Its easy to say that when it isnt a possibility and things aren't terrible on your end. Were there other reasons to fire him?
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
The point is, he got fired before things got sorted out. Would you feel comfortable going back to your job under those circumstances?

He got fired on some serious bs charges that were used by some in the AD (and parents of players i believe) to oust him cause they had issue with him. When the actual information of the charges were made public they were looking at serious lawsuits.

And IIRC the charges were without merit, but would you feel comfortable going back to place of employment that was involved in those charges? That cloud of doubt, fair or not?

You guys seriously don't remember any of these details?
he was charged with child porn IIRC. Turned out it was pictures of his own kids when they were young running around after a bath or something like that.
of course the school is going to fire him immediately after charges like that are filed. But then when the details came out and people realized they were family pictures, the charges were dropped and everyone was like "oh shit, sorry we didn't wait but like, you get it right?"
You don't necessarily fire someone immediately if it's something easily disprovable. All they had to do was bring him in to ask, "wtf?" and he could show them his phone. Driving drunk and plowing someone over or something like that sure.
I remember the details, but as I said, would you feel comfortable going back to work for someone who treated you like that? It'd be realllllllly awkward. You guys seriously don't remember any of these details?

treated me like anyone else charged with child porn? Uhhhh yeah. I would kind of understand given the circumstances. My anger would be at the cops and prosecutor's office.

Sorry but no. He's fighting to remain out of prison. I'm confident his lawyer said don't talk to anyone. And I'm sure talking to employer was a hair lower on the priority list than making sure I stay out of federal prison.
Should have put him on leave/suspension until it was settled, IMO.

I haven't been logged in for a few years, but want to provide the context here and then I'll fade back into oblivion. There are a few things that make this a no-win story for everyone and NO ONE did anything wrongoutside of the county attorney that seemed to be out to make a name for himself. In fact I'd argue everyone did everything correct.
Remember, this all happened inside a year of when the Penn state stuff happened so everyone at universities were on edge. He took his work phone to IT as he was having problems with it. IT saw he had videos of his elementary school age or younger kids getting.out of the bath, being goofy and mooning the camera. IT reported it to HR, HR reported it to the police/da. They pressed charges and used some pretty damning language including that the kid was "showing his anus" in the indictment. He was placed on administrative leave and only fired when it looked like it was the only conclusion that could be taken.
As it made it through the legal process, an interim coach was put in place and the team went undefeated during the year and to the final 4 teams. The summer/fall of the next year he took a much lesser job not knowing if he would ever get his job back. In the meantime, everyone realized it was a ridiculous case and the charges were dropped. He took his contracted right to demand his job back and and an arbitor ruled this way. The administration had no choice but to give it back to him. From everything I understand there was never any ill will between him and the athletic dept or university admin. Frustration, I'm sure, but not bad relationships.
In any case, pot shots at the college or the coach are probably a bit unwarranted in this instance. And with that, I bid you adieu for another 3 years.

Absolutely unique...didn't mean they HAD to bring him back as the coach.

This is tough.
Unfortunately, I don't think they would make this move in isolation. I would expect to see more dominoes falling soon.
Perhaps with enough, DII could be a viable division again.
Color me stupid. If you had asked me before this, "Does Division II hockey still exist?" I would have said "no".
@frozen4champs can't say this is at all surprising and agree there will be more who follow suit. sad to see
