A New Beginning at Minnesota

Instead of doing a story about Bob Motzko, the new hockey coach at Minnesota… I thought I would just head down to the U and capture the event in pictures. There were a lot of familiar faces at the news conference today. To see all three of the most recent coaches together was pretty special. (Woog, Lucia & Motzko)   So below are a few of my favorite photos from today. Gophers Sweep Sparty

Schierhorn Makes 21 Saves for 10th Career Shutout Minneapolis, Minn. — It wasn’t exactly a Picasso for the Gophers, but they made enough brush strokes to sweep the Spartans with a 4-0 shutout on Saturday. “We haven’t proven to be an offensive juggernaut,” head coach Don Lucia said. “We just kind of methodically get to 2 or 3 or 4, enough to win games.” No. 5 Minnesota (7-3-0 overall, 3-1-0-0 Big Ten) got the first […]

Three Thoughts from 3M Arena at Mariucci Minneapolis, Minn. — Minnesota ended a streak of splits and poor specialty team play with a pair of home wins over No. 9 Clarkson. The power play produced three goals on 10 opportunities and the penalty kill did its job on all four shorthanded situations. Senior assistant captains Leon Bristedt and Mike Szmatula scored their first goals of the season, both on the power play, and junior goaltender […]
