Well, well, well. Maybe this England team is actually legit.
Until a shootout happens.
They have Harry Kane for PKs now
I don't know what this is, but I feel like the teams that don't advance in the world cup should do this as like a consolation round.
Omg..that is awesome
I demand this be shown on Watch ESPN.
Although it would be better if the players were wearing skates.
Are they wearing bowling shoes?
Are they wearing bowling shoes?
Or broomball shoes?
Are they wearing bowling shoes?
I had the same thought. They look a lot like bowling shoes you get as rentals at an alley ?
And since it’s in Germany you have to assume they’ve had a couple pints.
We really need this here...hell, even Jane Fonda might be able to tolerate this

Agree, they look like rental bowling shoes. Though I would have to believe they are similar to broom ball shoes. Someone would kill them self or severely hurt themselves if they were bowling shoe soles.
Keep your stick on the ice...

I know zip about curling, but don't they wear one shoe that slides and one that grips? Maybe in this "sport" they (should) wear two that grips?
I wore my track spikes playing indoor broomball for one season. Since it was just a church rec league no one complained even as I routinely trucked by everyone else on the ice. They made a very cool sound with every step.

B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
Nice work dumba$$.
Nice work dumba$$.
Dumba plays soccer??? :conf2:
Uruguay beats Russia easily to win Group A.
Saudi Arabia just daggered Egypt with a 95th minute goal. Really poor showing from Egypt in this tournament.

No that'd be Dumba55
Top half of the 16 looking like
Uruguay
Spain
France
Argentina
Brazil
Germany
Belgium/England
Colombia
Dear God...
If that happens you're welcome for the cake walk Portugal and other of England/Belgium
Some of these referees just shouldn’t be doing any more games. This guy in the Iran-Portugal has totally lost control of this game
Wowwwww just kidding swap Spain and Portugal. Holy shit
Arguably, Ricardo Quaresma has just as much natural talent as Cristiano Ronaldo
WOW... After watching the replay. Iran was that close to upsetting Portugal and moving to the knockout rounds.

You may argue specific skills, like the outside of the boot kick he had today. That was a very talented goal. There is no arguing the goal scoring and longevity that Ronaldo has had. He’s closing in on 500 goals for club and country. Quaresma is at 80 some.
France and Denmark help each other through with (the first?) goalless draw, not that it was needed in the end.
Snoozer

That guy was bad lol, the last PK for Iran was a pretty bad call but then he might've missed one or two that actually should've been PK's for them. Then there was what should've been a red on Ronaldo (you're not gonna convince me he unintentionally struck the other player). I'm probably forgetting a few things too.
Wow... What a finish to the afternoon games. Argentina scored in the 86th minute to go up 2-1. Meanwhile Iceland and Croatia were level at 1-1.
An Iceland goal would have sent them through over Argentina.
Maradona channeling his inner Bill Russell.

I think if Iceland won 2-1 but ARG tied, ARG would have the goal differential? Or is that not the tiebreaker in that case?

Iceland would have had 4 points to Argentina's 2.
Messi might have had the biggest sigh of relief I’ve ever seen. My god did he look relieved.

If Iceland won 2-1, and Argentina drew, Iceland would have had more points and a better GD. Would have been:
Iceland, 4pts, -1 GD
Argentina, 2pts, -3 GD
Had Iceland won 2-1, along with Argentina's 2-1 win, Iceland still would have gone through on GD. It would have been:
Iceland, 4pts, -1 GD
Argentina, 4pts, -2 GD

I saw this on Reddit, the NYT has a preview up for each team: https://mobile.nytimes.com/2018/06/11/sports/world-cup-groups.html
One of the sections for each team is "How to sound smart talking about [Team]". Here they are all in list form, if you want some water cooler one liners to drop, then walk away, and leave everyone marveling at your in depth knowledge of international soccer.
Saudi Arabia: "I really feel Fahad al-Muwallad could have offered something to Levante, if only he'd been given a chance."
Egypt: "Salah's form has been spectacular, but I still wonder what Mohamed Aboutrika could have done if he'd moved to Europe."
Uruguay: "Of course it's easy to praise Suárez, but the best example of garra charrua is Diego Godín."
Portugal: "Arguably, Ricardo Quaresma has just as much natural talent as Cristiano Ronaldo."
Spain: "It would be a fitting goodbye for Andrés Iniesta for Spain to win this competition."
Iran: "There will be a few teams hovering around Alireza Jahanbakhsh, given his form for AZ Alkmaar."
Morocco: "For a team drawn from so many countries, it's amazing how well Morocco speaks the universal language of soccer."
France: "The irony of this quarterfinal exit is that France could have named an entire other squad and done just as well."
Peru: "I think we have to face the very real possibility that Jefferson Farfán is immortal."
Denmark: "Kasper Dolberg has the talent to be a Danish equivalent to Zlatan Ibrahimovic."
Australia: "I wonder if they've tried to tamper with the ball, the way they did in cricket."
Argentina: "It's a shame that a team built around Lionel Messi in attack has to be built around Nicolas Otamendi in defense."
Croatia: "The midfield is as good as anything in the tournament, but I question whether Mario Mandzukic is reliable enough at this level."
Iceland: "This story really is powerful evidence for nurture in the age-old debate against nature."
Nigeria: "I have many strong opinions on Ogenyi Onazi, but look at that jersey. It's just incredible."
Brazil: "I do wonder if Roberto Firmino should be leading the line here, given his ability to lead a press from the front."
Switzerland: "It is amazing how one country can produce so many enthusiastic but ineffective strikers."
Costa Rica: "I've never quite understood why Real Madrid spent every summer trying to sign a goalkeeper when they have Navas."
Serbia: "You can see why they compare Milinkovic-Savic to Paul Pogba when he plays like this."
Germany: "It was telling that they did not differentiate between midfielders and forwards when announcing the squad: it's just so fluid."
Mexico: "Hirving Lozano just needs an impressive tournament and he'll be leaving PSV Eindhoven, that's for sure."
Sweden: "Victor Lindelof has really grown in stature during his year at Manchester United."
South Korea: "Ki Sung-yueng is as big as Beckham in Seoul, you know."
Belgium: "They have the players, but does Martínez have the defensive acumen? That's the question."
England: "By breaking the last bond with the golden generation, this finally feels like a team worth supporting."
Tunisia: "Hopefully the squad can overcome the domestic rivalry of Esperance and Etoile du Sahel to come together."
Panama: "Imagine what this team could do if Julio Dely Valdés was still young enough to be involved."
Poland: "Lewandowski is just so obvious. Piotr Zielinski's blend of technical ability and long-range goals is Poland's real strength."
Colombia: "Yerry Mina, Stefan Medina, Davinson Sanchez: this Colombia is strong at the back, and that's the difference."
Senegal: "Keita Balde has the pedigree to be one of this summer's breakout stars."
Japan: "Actually, it was an American, Tom Byer, whose coaching program helped Japan produce the vast majority of this team"

Really cool look at how Iran changed their tactics to mark William Carvalho. He was bossing the midfield at the beginning of the game until Iran put a man on him and completely took him out of the game.

Interesting Group F tonight as no team has technically been eliminated, although South Korea's chances are very slim.

"Working" from home today, got both games on. Hoping it gets crazy.
Just can't see a way SK holds off Germany another half.
I swear the color commentator on the Mexico-Sweden game is the same person that voiced Baba Looey in the Quick Draw McGraw cartoons of my youth.
Penalty for Sweden?! Could be 2-0
If Mexico loses by 2+ and Germany wins, Mexico is out, I believe
Shit is about to get crazy.
So if these results hold Germany is out right? But if they score they would go thru on goal diff?

Wow, Mexico collapse.
Germany has no excuses for not advancing.
Germany is getting desperate.

They should be - it’s South Korea

Ha nice
Holy eff Group F did not fail to deliver.
First time GER has ever lost 2 and 1st time ever not to advance? Did I hear that correctly?
Absolutely shocking from Germany. It was on a silver platter for them to qualify, and they couldn't get it done. Very atypical of German soccer.

1938 I believe is the last time they didn’t get out of the group stage.
Echo what GG13 said. They just never seemed to find that extra gear in any of the 3 games like they always do. This is a shocking result but also (sadly) a deserved one
