Phil Pritchard has been the keeper of the Cup since 1988
He’s an interesting guy. Talked with him while Cup was at the Entry Draft at the ‘X’.

I’m the only other person who wants that job.😉😂
So is EDM finally gonna upgrade in goal. I’ve been saying for 3 years that Skinner isn’t winning them a Cup
I touched it but never kissed. (The cup)
Geeked to see Nate skate the Cup
Kane not in the handshake line whatta turd
Barkov first European to captain multiple SC winners interesting
Kane not in the handshake line whatta turd
I believe he couldn’t be after getting a game misconduct.
Barkov first European to captain multiple SC winners interesting
My first thought was Niklas Lidstrom but he was only captain for 1 Cup in DET
No booing Bettman?

Reinhart already having a Bud Light on the ice… lol!!!

There’s no better spectacle in all of sport than every player skating the Cup, especially when the home team takes it

i always love guys like t.j oshie hoisting it, guys you watched in the highschool hockey tournament as kids reaching their ultimate dream. Can’t even imagine how their parents feel when that happens.😁

It’s interesting to see how many front office and off ice staff makes it on the ice.

Phenomenal post game coverage by TNT
Matt Tkachuk gives the Cup to dad to hoist, brother Brady in all the family pics, but doesn’t touch the Cup. Though I’m pretty sure he held it last year.

Also love letting all the families on the to celebrate. Seeing every players family celebrating with them and taking pics really makes you appreciate all of what it took to get them there
Reinhart the first player to score 4 goals in a Cup clinching game since 1922
(yes I know there was 2 EN)
They definitely need some kind of shakeup there and usually some team has a backup that’s worthy of a look as a starter or one hits free agency. That said it wasn’t all the goalies fault this series, Bob made some nice saves (the breakaway save to start game five being a big one) but it didn’t feel like he had to do a ton in the games they won.So is EDM finally gonna upgrade in goal. Edmonton just didn’t come close to the scoring depth of Florida. They also need to fix their blue line a bit, Bouchard is great offensively and pretty mid defensively, he needs to improve that side of his game. Kulak and Ekholm are fine on D but the others are pretty bad, especially Klingberg:

Personally, I found the finals and generally the entire playoffs underwhelming. There were a couple really good series (WPG-STL especially) and a number of remarkable moments, but overall it was kinda "meh" for me. The finals had three OT games, which WAS awesome and three one-sided wins for the Panthers. But all credit to Florida. They're talented, well coached and intelligently managed. Back to back Stanley Cups is a nice legacy.
So they say Minnesota is the state of Hockey, Florida has won the Stanley cup 5 times, 3 with Tampa and 2 with the Panthers, Minnesota 0 😡
Aloha!

For me the nearly week off between conference finals and the finals starting just killed momentum and my interest. On top of the the seemingly random schedule of a lot of 2 night breaks between games. I moved on to other things. The Stanley Cup being lifted in mid to late June, no thanks. The whole season is way too long at this point.
I could be misremembering, but I feel like growing up the cup was almost always awarded the first week of June, usually before school let out because my friends and I would talk about the winning team (and the absence of a Minnesota team). Maybe I am wrong.
June 17th, with the potential for a additional game on what would've been the 20th is just way too late in the year for a lot of people. I have to imagine a lot of casual fans didn't even know the NHL was still going. My extended family were already going on camping trips and things where they only get basic OTA channels (ABC, CBS), if at all, and no access to TNT.
Last night when the Panthers my 7 year old says “why do all those guys look the same”. I had to laugh and look in the eyes of a 7 year old. And I guess several of those guys would look the same with the same uniform and having a beard… lol!!!

Growing a playoff beard is senselessly STUPID…especially in an era where a lot of guys grow beards or 3-4 day stubble. Doesn’t set them apart like in the clean shaven era’s.Last night when the Panthers my 7 year old says “why do all those guys look the same”. I had to laugh and look in the eyes of a 7 year old. tradition is an ok thing man. It doesn’t hurt anyone and is viewed as part of the superstition, same as you’re not supposed to touch the cup without winning it (and especially not lift it up).
We should probably stop Detroit throwing the octopus as it’s 16 games to win now instead of 8 and definitely stop high school kids from bleaching their hair for state.
if they want to grow them or do things that don’t hurt anyone else, who cares? Personally don’t think tradition is stupid
The bigger question is, how does one sneak a slimy stinky 🐙 in under their coat… lol!!!

I was recently informed by a GPLer that I'm related to Airey

While I believe it was the Wild that came up with the phrase, to me it's never been about NHL success but rather the fact that community hockey is the rule in MN, that youth participation is huge, the brilliance and beauty of high school hockey and the statement tournament, and how many MN players make it to college and the NHL as the reasons why the moniker (even if it is silly) makes sense.
110% agree… though I like the moniker. And as you said, it’s a tribute to youth, high school and college along with the Wild. No state holds a candle in the wind when it comes to participation on all levels and it’s really not close.

This. It isn't NHL rings. It's how many participants at all levels, how ingrained it is in the community, etc. Kind of like when you think Canada, you think hockey. Not soccer, football, basketball, baseball. It's hockey. MI and MA are about the only states that even come (sorta) close for hockey, IMO.
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.

Aloha!
They were talking about this on 93X this morning too. Apparently Barkov was going door to door in his neighborhood at 5 AM ringing doorbells to show off the cup (drunk of course). There is video from someone’s ring doorbell.
I would not be mad if I got woken up in the middle of the night for that. 😂🏆
I saw the video on fb yesterday and ment to look for it on twitter or YouTube to share.

Here we go…
Keep your stick on the ice...
I am obviously biased, being a Patrick Roy fan until he retired, but was there ever a more universally cheered for guy to hoist the cup than Ray Bourque? I felt like the entire country, outside of the Devils and a majority of the Red Wings fanbase, were cheering for the Avalanche to win the cup in 2001 so Ray could get a chance to hold it high.
And then when they win it, Sakic doesn't even lift the thing, he just turns and hands it to Ray... to this day, any time I see that highlight my eyes get watery especially when they flash to him and then his son. Selfishly, I think that was the best Cup presentation I have ever seen, it felt the most cathartic. Maybe Ovechkin or Chara? I think lots of fans still didn't like those guys though. Plus Ovechkin is still playing. Everyone knew Ray was retiring and this was likely his last chance. So seeing him go out on such a high note was just awesome. (Side note, in an interview I heard, Sakic had told Bourque to go accept the cup, but Ray refused and said the Captain should get it first. What a couple of class act gentlemen.)
It doesn't seem like there is a guy currently in the NHL like a Ray Bourque, where everyone would cheer for him to win the cup regardless of team he ended up on. Can anyone else think of one?
I mean, personally I was cheering for guys like Blake Wheeler to have another diving OT goal to win the cup, but I don't know that the majority of fans would cheer for him. Maybe if McDavid gets to the end of his career and still hasn't won it? Certainly right now he isn't universally loved.
In terms of modern guys, Probably would say Marleau before he retired. Jumbo Joe would’ve been up there too.
active guys I’m sure mcdavid will get that way towards career end and you get more the feeling you need to see it, kind of how it was for ovi. Maybe like burns if we’re looking for other active guys who are just likable and have never won one but been around forever (don’t think he has).
