I wouldn't go as far as saying a great play by Makar.  I would say more luck was involved for Makar. I'm not buying that Makar was that aware of his surroundings that he pulled his blade off the puck for that fraction of a second for his teammate to touch up.

Agree on Makar crossing the blue line. What made it great was the quick shot threw a screen ( threw the D’s legs) and in, so soon after Oilers tied it ☝️

I think neither Makar nor the linesman saw  Nichushkin on the boards and they happened to get lucky, honestly.

Has any one else noticed that Mike Smith for Edmonton wear two different goalie masks.  I have noticed it more between home games and away games.

Yeah I think he had one designed specifically for their all blue alternate, which is what they've been wearing at home in the playoffs.

Thanks. Makes sense. He normally has the Grant Fuhr tribute mask. And one he has been wearing at home does match the Oilers all blue alternates.

Well any desire to cheer for Edmonton is certainly taking a hit in the closing minutes of this one.

5th seed Edmonton is getting worked in their little freebie type of ride to the Conference Finals.

Yeah Markstrom and the Flames D was legit bad in that series v Edmonton. They were a top 5 D on the year too so it was kinda surprising they melted down that badly. Also Sutter could’ve matched Backlund’s (an elite defensive center) line against McDavid’s instead of trying to run and gun with the top line against them, who went for huge minus on the series. Questionable decision making there didn’t help.

McDavid can obviously steal some games and Smith played pretty well at times but there’s just not much else to that team besides Draisaitl and Nugent-Hopkins. CO is deeper and just needs their goalie to not be catastrophic.

Didn’t expect this from the Tampa Bay defense. Rangers forecheck has them hemmed in.

Tampa had a 9 day break, they’re naturally rusty. The trick isn’t to beating Tampa once…it’s beating them 4 times. That said, because of NYR strong goaltending & ability to light the lamp, this should be fun series. NYR had to win tonight, as fatigue will set in for them later in the series…tonight they will!

I don’t buy the “rusty from the break” excuse. This game was tied 2-2 halfway thru.

Tonight is where the rubber hits the road. If the Rangers win tonight, then watch out, they’re for real. I expect a tight game tonight, but will be quite surprised if the Lightning don’t find a way to win.

Rangers up 2-0 in the series.  Bet y’all didn’t expect that!  I hope they keep up that energy.  They are indeed fun to watch.

Tampa scores with 41.6 and hung on to win 3-2.  That’s ok, I’d like to see the Rangers win it at home.

Rangers are GOOD…Tampa facing another must win Tuesday! Top 2 pairings of Fox-Lindgren & Trouba-Miller are one of the few teams that rival⚡️dominant trio of left Defenseman: Hedman, McD & Sergachev ☝️

Kucherov was the difference, power play goal & brilliant pass on GWG. Great finish by Palat, (evidently) it’s his 10th GWG in playoffs for career.

Fox is a really good player, The other 3 aren't even in the same conversation as the Tampa dmen. Rangers defense is pretty much all about Shesterkin

True about Fox, I’ve been impressed at times with Trouba during these playoffs (although he had a lousy game today) taking 3 penalties, he knows how to throw an open ice hit, a lost art. But agree, Rangers D is largely Shesterkin.

Yeah I think ppl often conflate good goaltending and good D. The lightning definitely outchanced them and Igor made a ton of great saves, definitely more than Vasilevsky.

Fox is a very skilled offensive defenseman.  Although you can’t argue they have played much better in the playoffs with Lindgren than without. They really picked back up when he returned from those three (?) games he was out after his injury.  I think they said today he’s a +10 for the playoffs this year.   Not to take away from Igor, he’s easily the MVP so far.

Kucherov and McDavid are head-and-shoulders the best offensive forwards in the league. Every time they have the puck it’s dangerous.

Cale Makar is arguably the Avs most important player! He keys their offense!

Sad to see a player as great as Draisaitl playing hard with clearly a bad wheel. Nugent Hopkins SCORES! Oilers lead 2-1 with three minutes left in 2nd period. I don’t like the Avs one bit, but they have a really good squad! Now McDavid SCORES! 3-1

Not wanting to skate or touch the conference trophies is so childish. It’s like a Minnesota high school team not wanting to touch or celebrate the section championship trophy.

I can’t believe he played 2 years of college, seems like he stepped in and had a big impact immediately but maybe that’s why.
