Iowa St beats Miami in the Pop Tart Bowl… Cam Ward for Miami sets out 2nd half. If you’re going to selfishly set the out the 2nd half, just don’t even suit up.

Not a fan of Colorado... though at least Hunter and Prime's boys played and didn't opt out.

Sure but why are they still on the field down 29 with 4 minutes left?

@bigbeer

Especially Shedeur... he has nothing else to prove. He's going to be a top 5 pick and Hunter will probably be #1 or #2. All depends on the drafting team and what they want to do with Hunter. He'll be drafted to play defense. Just don't know how much he'll play offence. A wildcat or some random plays to be an extra threat. Just don't think he'll play nearly as much 2-way as he played in college.

Keep your stick on the ice...

Hawkeye fans are seemingly ready to eat each other up over the state of the program and Kirk Ferentz after losing to Missouri yesterday.  I went into that game yesterday with NO expectations and came away with no judgements as well.  Bowl games outside the CFP are worthless and have been for well over a decade IMO.  Now we are in the day and age where players can quit in the middle of a game with no consequences.

Anyway, again Hawk fans just are split if they want to see the end of KF.  He is 70 years old so his time in closer to ending than not.  One thing I will agree with most Iowa fans is that this past season was an absolute disappointment.  8-5 seems like a good record but those 8 wins really aren't quality wins and Iowa is 0-9 versus ranked opponents dating back to 2021.  That stat is the most concerning thing to me as a Hawk fan.

One thing that has me chuckling though has come up in the past week...Cyclone fans proclaiming that the State of Iowa is now a Cyclone state after winning the title of Pop Tart Bowl Champions and their first 11 win season in the history of their program.  That's cute that their fans believe that but Hawk fans still outnumber Cyclone fans 2 to 1.   Also this year in the big four sports Iowa and Iowa State have split 2-2.  The one thing I will give the Iowa State athletic department is they are doing more with less than Iowa is with 10 times the amount of financial advantage right now.  I see that the tide will turn when AD Beth Goetz gets her people in to lead the football and men's basketball programs.

With that said...I know NOBODY here cares about a single word I just typed out...but I feel better getting those words out.  Looking forward to fall 2025! Go Hawks!

I am the official Iowa Hawkeye football fan of GPL!

The NIL era is going to change how programs are run.  I don't think KF is necessarily out of the loop on this, but the ability to recruit and coach up kids over several years (which has been a real strength of the Hawkeyes since Fry) is going to be far more difficult.  How do you recruit a frosh, redshirt him and tell him to stay on the bench and in the weightroom for three years before they have a chance to play?

When you dive into the portal without building a firm culture, you risk ending up like Wisconsin-- which feels like a disjointed mess right now.  KF is going to need to figure out an appealing culture to the new era of NCAA football player and then sell it not only to those in the portal-- but daily to his team.  That is exhausting to a 50 year old, much less a 70 year old.

The real worry is that if Iowa's defense doesn't improve off of this year-- it will be hard-pressed to stay on the top half of the new B1G, much less the top quarter.

For sure...not all players are like Jay Higgins who sat behind Jack Campbell before he got his shot to start last year.  He turned into the next great MLB from Iowa.  Unfortunately those days are long gone where you can get that type of loyalty which was...I repeat was the bread and butter of Ferentz.  I believe that for programs like Iowa to be successful in this new day and age is to have a great mixture of loyal players that develop over time and bringing in players from the portal that contribute i.e. Nick Jackson and Jacob Gill.  The risk is you get health riddled players like Cade McNamara.  KF will have to figure this out quickly or pass on this era of NCAA football and retire.

I believe that next season may be his last after gets the coaching record from Woody Hayes.  Yes, it is self centered but I guess he has earned the chance at that record for keeping Iowa as a relevant program in the B1G no matter how it is configured.  Most other B1G programs have had one or more coaches that they would soon love to forget in the last 25 seasons.  Believe me I have burned Ferentz numerous times in effigy but I am glad overall how he has coached at Iowa.

No players quit at halftime that is clickbait nonsense.  Every player they said did it cleared it with the coaches first and was only playing for records or something.  It's not a thing.  Mo Ibrahim did the same thing when he was break DTs rushing record...

As for this era of college football...well I find it uninteresting because there are no rules and nothing really means anything anymore.  Paying attention to recruiting is worthless since no one sticks around, transfers change their mind within days of making a decision because of better offers and even if they do stay they leave as soon as possible to find something better.  The best parts of college football got destroyed in favor of a tournament that proves nothing and tv contracts.  This is worse than the MLB at least those players sign contracts.  Unrestricted free agency every year plus no pay restrictions or enforcement of rules is just dumb.  Video game football makes more sense...

This whole thing is untenable long term and sooner or later the players will just be forced to become employees as opposed to students which will force unionization and just create a lesser pro league.  Call me a Boomer if you want (I was born in 1980 but whatever) but why should I care about anyone on the Gophers when there is a 50/50 shot they leave after the season whether they play or not based solely on if they get enough people to give them money?  And make no mistake that is what is happening at most non-helmet schools. (Helmet schools have different issues)

NIL was never supposed to be this.  It was supposed to allow you to sell autographs or jersies or make commercials and profit off it.  This is just bs pay for play crap only we are paying them to play.

Quitting at halftime...choosing not to play the second...same thing IMO.  Overall this new NIL era has the inmates running the asylum and the world outside of the team I give a damn about is just late night tv static to me now.

110%. Choosing to not play in the second half or until they get record is putting their personal record ahead of the teams. Regardless if it was ok’ed with the coaching staff prior. It shows A LOT of their character imo.

I would say that Michigan beating Bama would shut up the crowd that wanted Bama or more SEC teams in the playoffs. It won’t though. They will just move the goal posts again. The excuses will be that Bama didn’t try because it wasn’t the playoff or that they had opt outs (so did Michigan). Just win actual games instead of hypothetical games and quit your whining.

So you are saying Mo Ibrahim, one of the most respected and loved players Fleck has ever coached or to play for the U in my lifetime, has character issues.  Sure thing...

If the coach and team is ok with it I will side with them over a bunch of people with no knowledge or skin in the game who like to spout nonsense and thump their chest.  You have zero idea of what their "character" is.

Alabama's first six possessions today

6 plays, 9 yards, Turn it over on Downs

Fumble on the 1st play (-6 yards)

Interception on the 2nd play (0 yards)

Fumble on the 1st play (-14 yards)

6 plays, 5 yards, Punt

6 plays, 3 yards, Punt

22 plays, -3 total yards, 3 turnovers (4 if you count the 4th down stop)

Yep that definitely sounds like a team that should have been in the playoffs. 😉 🤣

I kinda doubt anyone here has Fleck on speed dial. Not gonna blame a player for putting their own future ahead of a meaningless bowl game, it’s easy for anyone to claim otherwise on a message board but these guys are looking at a once in a lifetime opportunity to go pro and shouldn’t be faulted for maximizing their chances of doing so.

Like Barkley might do on Sunday? College players should look out for their own best interests first, whatever they’re advised that may be

And I agree. And I’ve consistent with if you’re looking out for your future, don’t play in that meaningless bowl game. Though playing in that meaningless bowl game until that record is low.

Players doing what they perceive to be in their best interest isn’t something I’m going to get mad about. That said there’s so many factors to consider in that specific scenario like are they well ahead in this game, what is the record the player is going for (like are they just running 5 yards and quitting? lol), can they reasonably win without this player and give some younger guy an opportunity, etc. I also don’t know how often this particular scenario comes up but I can’t imagine it’s common.

They changed the rule a bit this year. It’s not just helmet to helmet. It has to be deliberately lowering the head to hit with the crown (top) of your head. I actually think the Texas player hit him face mask first.

Reminds me of when my TV died the morning of the NFC championship.  I was poor but shelled out $1000 for a new 36” tube TV (the biggest made) and Plugged it in to watch the Vikings lose 0-41.

Could you imagine traveling to LA, getting hotel rooms, renting a car, buying tickets to watch your team completely shit the bed like this?

Under SEC logic Oregon shouldn't have been in the playoffs. 😉 After all if you get blown out you didn't belong. This just in every team can have a bad game and get blown out.

Ohio State 7 possessions, 4 TDs, 2 FGs, 1 punt

Oregon 6 possessions, 5 punts, 1 turn it over on downs

Totals Yards

Ohio State 390

Oregon 65

We are Minnesota fans.  Of course we can imagine a scenario where our hearts get broken by our favorite tams.  😬

Oregon 65

This OSU defense is legit. Simon and Williams will be studs on Sundays

Sugar Bowl postponed until Thursday night following the incident in New Orleans this morning.

Interested to see what kind of crowd shows up. I would assume more Notre Dame fans had to leave compared to Georgia’s.

Someone should probably tell Oregon that the Rose Bowl started.

I always wonder if teams rather play in the open round and not have a bye. Yeah there is the risk of injury and playing an extra game. Though you almost off a month with the bye compared to 10 days if you play in the opening round..

So do they go with 16 teams right away next year?
